AMAZING! We could not have asked for a better trip. Gerard and Michael were fantastic. Gerard was so full of information about the light and Michael with his expert driving skills avoided sheep and potholes with ease. They said they we were lucky with how active the lights were but I also credit their ability to find a great viewing location. I HIGHLY recommend this trip. It is worth it.

Sophie and Michael were fantastic as our guide and driver. The location they picked was far from any light pollution on a beautiful fjord lake surrounded by mountains. The ride there was a trip in itself. A wonderful piping hot dinner sitting around a campfire surrounded by snow! Then the light show. I recommend wearing their suits and boots- I was warm the whole evening. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hello,
Thank you so much for your review!
A fjord lake surrounded by mountains, far from any light pollution sounds like one of those settings that takes your breath away before the aurora even appears!
We're so glad Sophie and Michael made the whole evening special, from the journey there to the campfire dinner and the light show itself. And great tip about the thermal suits and boots, staying warm really does make all the difference when you're standing out under the stars!
We'll make sure they both see your kind words. Thank you for choosing Wandering Owl and we hope to see you back in the Arctic someday!

Everything was great. The crew were all very helpful and friendly. I recommend that you wear the boots that they provide, unless you have very well insulated boots. My feet got quite cold. The meal was hot soup and bread, which was tasty and filling. The winter overalls kept me nicely warm.

We had a real blast. Jordan and Cristobal were our guides for the night. We drove an our our of Tromsø, got our gear an set camp for the night. After about 45 minutes the sky cleared and we had nearly 6 hours straight of northern lights. Jordan told ours that we got very lucky and explained a lot to all of us. In the end we did not want to go back. It was a perfect trip. Thank you.

On a rainy night in Tromso, We had to drive for 2 hrs towards Finland to find the lights- it was worth it when we got there. We saw lots! Our guide Fabien was dedicated & enthusiastic & keen to explain & answer any questions about the Aurora, & our driver Vitek was nice. It was a shame that we ended up with quite a few coaches etc but it didn't actually affect us & I guess is inevitable on rainy / cloudy nights. The soup was very good! And the photos are cool. Thank you 🙏
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Thank you so much for your thoughtful review!
We’re really glad to hear that the long drive paid off and that you were rewarded with a great Northern Lights display.
On challenging weather nights, sometimes we do have to travel quite far to find clear skies, so we’re happy that the effort was worth it. Fabien and Vitek will be delighted to hear your kind words about their dedication and enthusiasm.
We’re also glad you enjoyed the soup and the photos. Thank you for joining us and for your understanding about the busy conditions that can happen on cloudy nights.
We hope to welcome you back again someday!

Not only were they both really knowledgeable and engaging in how they shared this, they are both lovely, friendly people.
Everything was catered for, with thermal/waterproof suits for all, great photos included, and they even provided homemade delicious soup and cookies.

We had a wonderful Aurora tour experience. Michael and Lucia -Sorry for any spelling mistakes- were both very kind and professional, and everything was well organized.
Lucia gave us very interesting and informative explanations, which made the experience even more meaningful. The thermal suits and boots provided by the team really helped us get through the freezing night comfortably.
We were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights! It was truly magical!
It does get extremely cold, so it’s very important for visitors to come well prepared. But overall, it was an amazing experience. Thank you!

Excellent experience. We did see the lights and it was a magical experience, our guide was really knowledgeable and made the experience a really good one. We have would have probably frozen without the gear they provided but you should know it’s going to be many hours worth of snow and cold, but so so worth it!
Response from Host, Feb 2026

Thank you so much for your wonderful review!
We’re thrilled you got to see the northern lights and experience that magical moment. It truly makes the cold worthwhile. We’re also glad the guide’s knowledge helped make the night even more special.

Thank you for choosing Wandering Owl and we hope to see you again!
Anthony_C, Feb 2026
I have been burned before with cheap aurora tours that drop you off and leave you seeing nothing all night; this was the opposite.
This is an expertly guided tour. This team picks you up and knew exactly where we needed to be to get a great view of the Aurora. Beforehand, I was nervous because the weather was looking cloudy and overcast all week in Tromso, so my expectations were low. They drove us north, were very friendly, and made the journey pleasant. Then every stop we made, we saw amazing views of the aurora.
The campfire was well done and it was an unforgettable experience.
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Hello,
Thank you so much for sharing this, it truly means a lot!
We’re sorry to hear you’ve had disappointing aurora tours in the past, but we’re so happy this experience restored your faith. Chasing the Northern Lights takes constant monitoring of weather, cloud cover, and solar activity, and we’re glad the team’s planning and flexibility paid off.
Driving to clearer skies, stopping at the right moments, and creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere along the way is exactly what we aim for. It’s wonderful to hear that every stop rewarded you with amazing views and that the campfire made the night even more special.
Thank you again for your trust and we’re thrilled it became an unforgettable experience for you!
Logan_M, Feb 2026

Our family of four—including a six-year-old and a four-year-old—had an amazing time with them! When I was searching for an Aurora tour, another company told me that young kids weren’t allowed on the group tour. We’d have to book a private tour, which would cost double the price which is $1000 extra. Wondering Owl was kind enough to let us join the group tour, and they even provided car seats and kids’ thermal suits for us. We’re so grateful!
The night was incredible. They took the group to an amazing spot, and everything was well organized. Plus, our tour guide took some beautiful photos.
Highly recommend!
Response from Host, Feb 2026

We’re absolutely pleased to hear that your whole family, including the little ones, had such an amazing time with us. We truly believe that magical Arctic moments should be accessible to families as well, so we’re very happy we could accommodate you on the group tour and provide car seats and thermal suits to keep everyone safe and warm. Knowing that your children were able to be part of such a special experience means a lot to us. It’s wonderful to hear that the location, organisation, and photos all helped make the night unforgettable.
Thank you for your kind recommendation and we hope to welcome your family back for another adventure in the future!

We had a magical night. Alba explained us very well the magical thing that is to chase or fish the auroras. This night Alba chose to fish auroras in a wonderful place, with amazing explainations, fire, soup and hot drinks. The thermal were a big +. Small group, no one else around definitly worth the monney. We were so lucky to have an amazing show with dancing and colorful auroras. But the magic happens also when both of staff, Michael and Alba were full of joy, passion in the eyes, with the stories, patience and the hope ! Thank you guys for sharing everything with us we were so lucky !
Elodie_W, Feb 2026
This experience was simply… magical!
We stayed in Tromsø for three days, and the aurora forecast wasn’t good, so we had already accepted that we wouldn’t see anything. However, Magda managed to find the most beautiful spectacle for us. We are so grateful that we were able to see the northern lights thanks to her and Chris.
Magda also took the most beautiful photos and was incredibly warm and accommodating. Thank you for everything!
Response from Host, Feb 2026

Wyoming_M, Feb 2026
Wandering Owl is a great tour company, and our guide Alba, and driver Michael, were friendly, informative, honest, and brought a lot of authenticity and joy to our whole night. This would have been an enjoyable experience whether we saw the northern lights or not, because of the way Alba framed the night for us. However we did see them, thanks to the knowledge of our guide and driver who took us to find clear sky away from Tromsø, found a place without light pollution, and told us when it would be more likely to see them. Beautiful night and we were well taken care of.
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Thank you so much for your wonderful review!

My wife, daughter, and I joined Wandering Owl for a northern lights chase with Sophie as our guide and Chris as the driver. While there were some high points to the evening, I was ultimately disappointed with the experience—especially when compared to a chase we did with another company (initials G.A.) the night before.
The Positives:
The campfire setup was very well done, and the atmosphere was pleasant. Both the food and the drinks provided were good and made for a nice break during the cold night.
The Photography (Major Drawback):
As a photographer myself, the photo quality was the biggest letdown. On our previous chase with G.A. (the other company), we received about 75 bright, clear photos. On this tour, Sophie took only about 20 photos, and they were dark and lacked crispness. It appeared the camera settings were not correctly dialed in for the conditions.
Furthermore, she did not seem to know how to use the light properly to ensure the people were lit while maintaining the northern lights in the background. Most frustratingly, during the best part of the show which lasted over 45 minutes, she only did a 30-second time-lapse video. I expected many photos during this peak activity, but she took none.
Conclusion:
While the hospitality was fine, the technical execution of the photos did not meet the standard I expected for a professional tour. Having had a much better experience with another company, I would not use Wandering Owl again.
Response from Host, Feb 2026
We’re genuinely pleased to hear that you enjoyed the campfire setup, the atmosphere, and the food and drinks provided. Creating a warm and welcoming environment in Arctic conditions is something our team works hard to deliver, so it’s lovely to know those elements stood out positively.
Regarding the photography, we’re sorry to hear it did not meet your personal expectations. We would, however, like to clarify that the photo delivery on your tour was carried out exactly in line with what is described and included in this experience. Our guides capture portraits and moments throughout the evening, and the number of images taken and delivered can vary depending on group size, movement between locations, weather conditions, and the natural activity of the aurora.
Northern Lights photography is also highly dependent on rapidly changing light levels and environmental factors. While styles and editing preferences may differ between companies and individual photographers, the images provided from your tour were produced according to our established settings and standards.
We fully understand that having experienced a different tour the night before naturally shaped your expectations. That said, we’re confident that the tour was delivered as described, and all inclusions were provided accordingly.
We truly appreciate you choosing to join us during your visit and wish you and your family many wonderful memories from your time in the north.
Alicia_K, Feb 2026
Our guide and driver were both excellent in attempting to find a place where we could view the Northern Lights. Although clouds and a closed road threw a wrench in the plans, our guide and driver continued to hunt for a the perfect location. Once there, we were all entertained by the unique and rare lights of the aurora borealis. And the guide lit a warm fire for us to sit by enjoy soup he had prepared for us.
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Thank you for sharing your experience!
We’re so glad to hear that, despite the clouds and road closures, our guide and driver went above and beyond to find the perfect spot for you to see the Northern Lights.
It’s wonderful that you were able to enjoy the rare and magical aurora, along with the cozy campfire and soup. We’ll be sure to pass your kind words on to the team.

Very well organised. Exceptional knowledge of local area to find clear skies. Comprehensive knowledge of the Northern lights and why we see them. It was an experience of a lifetime. Not to be missed. Our guides Mikso and Chris were outstanding. Clothing, boots, soup, hot chocolate and a campfire were all supplied and was fabulous. Mikso took photos for us and was very patient with the group. Would definitely recommend and well worth the money.

Amazing experience, we feel lucky to say we saw the lights even in cloudy conditions!! Our tour guide Jordan was fantastic and very knowledgeable, he explained what we were looking for, had lots of facts and answered all questions we had. Wow. What a wonderful trip! Your guides are knowledgable and experienced. They were able to talk about the auroras, the geography, animals…. It was so interesting to learn about north Norway (and other countries in this part of the world too). The minibus experience far outweighed those that had a coach experience. We went to places others were not, could be flexible and reactive to the auroras. The fire and soup were a great extra, under the stars. And we loved our enthusiastic guide who was taking photos throughout. This was a very special experience and we recommend it.
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Thank you so much for this incredible review!
It’s wonderful that you enjoyed not only the aurora itself, but also learning about the geography, wildlife, and life in Northern Norway. We strongly believe the small minibus experience allows us to be flexible, reach more unique locations, and react to the lights in real time.
We’re also so glad you enjoyed the campfire, soup under the stars, the photos and the enthusiasm of your guide.
Thank you your recommendation, we hope to welcome you back one day for another Arctic adventure!

Had an incredible time with Sophie and Michael. Great safe driving, amazing food, and navigation. They were committed to finding us the lights on a low-activity day and thankfully they did!! Very grateful to them and the team!
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Thank you so much for your kind words!

We hope to welcome you back for another Arctic Adventure soon!
Robert_W, Feb 2026
You don't get the warm suit and boots right away so dress warmly. Our guide did a great job designing a route to find the lights and there were some spectacular displays. You need a camera - an iPhone works fine - to truly appreciate the lights. You won't see much with the naked eye. And it's a late night. We got back after 1:00 am.
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Hello,
Thank you for sharing your experience and your helpful tips!
You’re absolutely right, dressing warmly from the start is very important in Arctic conditions, especially before the thermal suits and boots are distributed. Layering properly makes a big difference for comfort throughout the evening.
We’re glad to hear your guide did a great job planning the route and that you were rewarded with some spectacular displays, that’s always the goal! And yes, cameras (even an iPhone in night mode) can reveal colors and details that aren’t always as visible to the naked eye. The aurora can sometimes appear softer or more subtle in person.
Thank you again for joining us and for your thoughtful feedback, it’s very helpful for future guests!
