DO NOT BOOK this tour if you value safety, decency or basic human compassion

Asees_K, Sep 2025
I cannot stress this enough: do not join this Mount Fuji tour if you're even slightly slower than the rest of the group. They will leave you behind on the mountain without hesitation — regardless of injury, altitude issues, or basic safety protocols. I pulled a muscle in my leg midway through the first day's hike and was moving a little slower as a result. Combine that with the effects of high altitude, and I wasn’t keeping the exact same pace as the rest of the group — though I still made it to the mountain hut within the allocated ascent time of 6 hours. Instead of offering support or even basic empathy, I was shocked to be presented with a waiver to sign, saying I was voluntarily leaving the tour and that they held no responsibility for me if I chose to summit the next morning. I reminded them that I never chose to leave the group — they were effectively expelling me. I refused to sign the waiver. That should’ve been the end of it. But the next morning, just ten minutes before the summit attempt, I was pressured into recording a voice note stating that the tour bus could leave the 5th Station without me if I didn’t return by 11:30 AM. I felt completely coerced into doing this, and this was after an argument where I clearly stated I was capable and willing to continue and I just needed to rest after pulling a muscle yesterday. To make matters worse, they removed the helmet from my head — a helmet that I paid for as part of the tour package — claiming they weren’t sure I’d return it in time. This was a blatant safety hazard. The guide herself later asked me multiple times on the journey why I wasn’t wearing a helmet when everyone else was and I had to remind her that she literally took it off my head. Throughout the summit climb, I was extremely anxious and stressed, because they made it clear they would not wait for me at the summit or the bus. I still managed to make it down well before the 11:30 AM deadline. And yet, they had the nerve to leave behind an elderly couple (both over 50) who weren’t as fast as the others — leaving them to fend for themselves. This company advertises their tours as being suitable for families and children over 6 years old. That is dangerously misleading. They showed zero concern for group safety, pressured participants into signing dodgy waivers, and even stripped customers of essential safety equipment if they weren’t confident you’d return it in time — even when you had other gear that also needed to be returned. One member of our group had visible signs of oxygen deprivation at the hut, and the guide never once checked on them. On top of all this, the tour guide was rude, dismissive, and completely lacking in empathy throughout the experience. This is not just bad service — it is irresponsible, unethical, and dangerous. If you're considering climbing Mount Fuji, find a company that values your safety and treats you like a human being, not a liability to be discarded the moment you're slightly behind schedule.

Was safety the issue?

Richard_B, Aug 2025
Arrived at set time. Only four people and a big bus. The tour guide said the trip was cancelled due to a road closure because of in climate weather. Normally, I'm good with that. Safety. Odd thing was people I was not with that took an alternate tour, went off at the same time 6:30-7:30 A.M. and they along with thousands of others on the mountain that day enjoyed the experience. Thought is they cancelled due to low turn out and cost of a full size bus. No way to tell now, but very circumspect looking back vs what others received, going to the mountain with alternate tour companies that day.

Response from Host, Aug 2025

Dear Richard Burnstan, Thank you very much for booking our Mt. Fuji climbing tour. First and foremost, we would like to express our sincere regret that the tour you were greatly looking forward to was cancelled due to the severe weather conditions. We feel deeply sorry that we could not meet your expectations and that this cancellation impacted your valuable travel plans. We would like to explain the reason for this decision, which you pointed out in your review. Please know that this was not related to the number of participants. Rather, we hope you will understand that it was a decision made to prioritize your safety above all else, in strict accordance with our safety regulations. Our company carefully determines whether to operate a tour based on several key factors: Official warnings and advisories from the Japan Meteorological Agency. The road status of the Fuji Subaru Line, the main access road to the 5th Station trailhead. Real-time information from our partners on the mountain, such as the mountain huts. On the morning of your scheduled tour, August 12th, there were warnings for heavy rain across Japan, with strong winds forecast for the Mt. Fuji area. As a result of this, the Fuji Subaru Line was closed due to high winds. We understand your confusion upon hearing that other tours may have proceeded, and we apologize for that. While the road did reopen later that morning around 10:00 AM, its reopening was unpredictable at our tour's early departure time. Under such uncertain conditions, our safety protocols do not permit us to take guests onto the mountain. We kindly ask for your understanding that this was a difficult but necessary decision made to ensure your safety. We sincerely hope to have another opportunity to guide you to Mt. Fuji when the weather is more favorable. Thank you once again for your valuable feedback.

Amazing Mount Fuji Hiking Experience!!!!

Bruno_P, Jul 2025
It was amazing!!! 2 days that I will never forget. The had 3 guides with our group The whole time, all of them spoke english, the trip was realmente tiresome but thats what we signed up for kkkkkk. The view up top is incredible, makes it totally worth it! The place we stayed in 8th station had a delicious curry rice (for those who like it) and the bed we slept was way better than we tought. The sheets were really good!!! I didnt sleep at all but because of the altitude, not because I didnt feel confortable. The view at night of the cities down there is unforgetable and when the horizon starts to color because of the sun, it looks like you watching Earth from space. We had a lot of fun and all was perfectly on clock. Actually we did it faster than the scheddule. Really grateful for the experience!

Response from Host, Jul 2025

Thank you so much for joining our Mt. Fuji tour. We were all incredibly moved to read your wonderful and heartfelt review. Your descriptions made us feel like we were right there with you, watching the sunrise and the starry sky from the summit. Nothing could make us happier than your words, "2 days that I will never forget." It is an honor to know that the view from the top made the difficult climb completely worth it for you. We feel privileged to have been a part of that special moment. Thank you for your praise for our guides as well. Our number one priority is our guests' safety and comfort, so hearing that our three guides provided excellent support from start to finish is the best encouragement we could ask for. We will be sure to pass your kind words on to them—it will no doubt make their day and motivate them going forward. We are so grateful we had the chance to guide you on this adventure. We are proud to have been a part of your story and hope we'll have the pleasure of sharing more of Japan's beautiful landscapes with you again someday.

Awesome trip!

Excellent and well organized tour with friendly and experienced guides. Highly recommended for first time Mount Fuji hikers. Safety was paramount and made the trip even more enjoyable. I have already shared the tour info with many friends.

Great 2 days trip to Mt. Fuji

BORIS_I, Aug 2024
2 days trip was a great decision. First: You can see a sunrise and Second: you can adapt to the elevation better. Also the slow speed of ascent was perfect... Specially if you are not a pro climber... I'm a mountain guide myself but did not miss the speed really going up. The guides were very good ad adapted to the weakest person, which was very professional... Additionally we made some breaks and we did gather together and continue forward... Dinner was nice and breakfast too. Enough Asian as well as enough European to say... Overall it was a great experience and I will do it again. We had super luck with the weather too... Amazing two days...

Response from Host, Aug 2024

Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We're glad to hear that the two-day trip allowed you to enjoy the sunrise and comfortably adjust to the altitude. It's great to know that the pace and professionalism of our guides met your expectations, and that you enjoyed the meals and overall experience. We look forward to welcoming you back for another amazing adventure!

Great experience

Victor_G, Jul 2024
The guides were amazing. Safety first, thoroughly knowledgeable, patient and kind. Wind and rain stopped is from reaching the summit but otherwise a great hike and outdoor experience.

Response from Host, Jul 2025

Thank you for participating in the tour this time. It is a pity that you could not reach the summit, but I am glad that you had a great and safe experience. We hope to see you again for another attempt!

2-Day Mount Fuji Climbing Tour English speaking guide from Tokyo

I am disappointed because of bad weather and my vision to conquer mt fuji was failed. In summary, the services given by Viator is excellent.

Response from Host, Jul 2025

We hope you still enjoyed the experience, and we appreciate your kind words about our service. If you ever decide to challenge Mt. Fuji again, we would be delighted to welcome you back and support your adventure.

Fun times while hiking in the rain

marcinzaradzki, Sep 2019
We started the hike in fairly nice weather with high expectations and a little bit worried if we can make it to the top. These doubts were quickly met with an unexpected weatherchange, it became a raining hell for the next couple of kilometers. Nevertheless the group was still very motivated and in a jolly mood. Fortunatly ths was still the case, while the visibility sunk to approx 50 meteres and nothing was left of a long promised great view of japan from the ascending trail. After some time everyone and everthing was wet. But we kept climbing. Eventually while passing the 3000m mark .... nothing changed ... wait ... it became cold. Finally we made it to the 8th station and the promised land (mountain hut). We were greated with a reasonably well equipped shack at 3400m including a warm meal and hot tee. For everyone who was in need of new warm clothing after the heavy rain and fog and the generally cold weather, everything could be rented out, which was lifesaving. After this delightful end of day one, the whole crew was send to sleep in beautiful chambers with a lot of people per not such a lot of squaremeters. If you got some sleep you potentially belonged to the lucky snorers who fell asleep first ;). The wake up time was set at 2:00 am. After getting ready and gathering behind the hut we started our final battle uphill. The timing of the guides was always perfect and on point. So we made it up approx 50min before sunset and were able to get a great spot after starting the walk around the crater. Many thanks to the guides for that. As the sun was setting all problems troubles sleepless nights were forgotten immediately. So all in all nice trip, perfect guides, great timing and not too exhausting.

Response from Host, Sep 2019

Thank you for sharing your experience with everyone. We look forward for your next visit to Japan.

Mount Fuji Climbing Tour!

jmeza1281, Aug 2019
Both of our tour guides was beyond phenomenal and very helpful. This was my first hike ever that I've done in my life and even though it was a struggle for me they stayed with me all the way till the end and made sure everybody came back safe as scheduled. Will highly recommend this. Also, this hike was been the most fundamental thing I have ever done in my life. Bucket list has been completed. Will highly recommend!

Response from Host, Sep 2019

The hiking was good but the timing felt a bit off. Lots of faffing about. And the stop at FujiQ is unnecessary. Most people just want to go home/get on with the rest of their trip!

Response from Host, Jul 2025

Hi julihulme, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, and we're happy to hear that you enjoyed the hike itself! However, we sincerely apologize that the tour's timing and efficiency did not meet your expectations. We appreciate your honest feedback about the wasted time and, especially, your specific comment about the stop at Fuji-Q Highland. This is exactly the kind of direct feedback that helps us improve. We want you to know that your comments, along with similar opinions from other guests, were a key factor in our decision to redesign our tours for 2025. In the new itinerary, we have streamlined the schedule to minimize idle time. Furthermore, we have removed the stop at Fuji-Q Highland to ensure our guests can get home or to their next destination more promptly, just as you suggested. We are truly grateful for your input and hope you might consider joining us again to experience a much smoother and more efficient tour. Best regards,

Would highly recommend!

jilliantofukuji, Jul 2019
The guides were attentive, and made sure everyone was safe and together before we went somewhere new. Also, they made sure that we were well prepared and told us exactly what to expect for the next destination (e.g. how to prevent altitude sickness). Even though bad weather prevented us from climbing to the summit, the guides made sure to explain to us that it was in our best interest and helped make what we could do an exciting experience.

Response from Host, Jul 2025

Thank you for joining our tour. We are most delighted that you had a safe and wonderful experience. We appreciate your cooperation in listening carefully to the guide's instructions and ensuring your safety. We look forward to welcoming you back on your next visit!

Una aventura inolvidable

Edgar_A, Jul 2024

Response from Host, Jul 2025
