I really enjoyed this event because of her personality and talent to teach and explain and spirit of welcoming. Her explanation is simple and clear.
It reminded me of the joy of calligraphy after such a long time.

Even as a Japanese person with prior experience in Shodo, this was a truly wonderful session. It gave me a fresh and deeper understanding of the structure of Kanji.
I gained so many new insights into the aesthetics of calligraphy, particularly regarding the balance of Kanji components—learning the proper length, slant, and size for each part. Akiko-sensei is a highly skilled professional calligrapher, yet she is incredibly friendly. She answered all my questions and clarified my doubts with great patience and care.
For the final piece, I wrote my name on a shikishi board. I hadn't held a brush since elementary school—over 50 years ago—so I was quite nervous! However, when Akiko-sensei firmly pressed the rakkan (red seal) onto the paper at the very end, my writing suddenly felt like a legitimate piece of art. It is a wonderful memory that I will cherish.
