Was a wonderful family experience and the host went over and above to ensure we had an excellent experience with an amazing momento to take home. Host was very kind and shared a lot about the craft as well as about the local area.
It was a little difficult to find the studio but once there, it was fun experience. I highly recommend this class.
She takes the time to teach you and answers questions respectfully. She was very friendly to talk to!
Out of all the activities my partner and I did on our trip, this one felt the most personable and fun! Truthfully I wasn’t the best at handwriting Kanji 😅 but our instructor didn’t belittle us for it. She even gave us snacks and her own additional handmade art work as presents! If you have time in your itinerary, definitely try to fit this in!
Yoko was an amazing, kind and patient teacher. you choose a Kanji and paint on a shirt. recommend gold paint if using black shirt. learn a lot about balance in calligraphy. she is very generous. loved it!!!

Thank you for visiting my workshop and im very happy that you enjoyed the activity. Many thanks for your review. I also learned from your culture a lot of new things. Arigatou gozaimasu.
Wonderful experience. It was amazing and filled with happiness and it’s perfect for kids. The hostess is amazing, nice and friendly.
Yoko was very nice and accommodating. It was a pleasure to learn more about her. I wish that there had been more of a focus on instruction...I was hoping to learn a little about technique, but it was actually just a tracing activity.

Hello Heather, to me was good to have you here, and i am sorry that it wasn't what you might expected. This is a fun activity of writing the Japanese Kanji on a t-shirt or a lantern, it is not a calligraphy lesson in particular, which supposedly to teach you the Japanese characters. This a fun activity for 1 hour. Anyway i was glad to show you a bit of a larger, much larger work, of a Japanese art.
We enjoyed our time with the calligraphy teacher, who was very patient and accommodating of our group. We had plenty of options for writing Japanese characters (including a custom request) and had clear instructions in English on the steps we were to take. Everyone in our group had a great time and walked away with a little personalized piece of Japan!
The host was so kind and accommodating! Place is easy to find and recommend this activity for anyone especially traveling with kids.
Great experience. The host was so sweet and friendly. Would highly recommend doing this experience. We all had a great time.
I visited this class on a solo day I had in the Skytree area. Yoko was a great teacher and fun to talk to about the calligraphy and just in general. Spending an hour working on my shirt was a nice break from a day in the city and made a great souvenir! Would definitely recommend!
Excellent!!! Great time, very personal and she was very patient. Willing to do whatever it took for us to have a great time. Will definitely recommend If you love art
Yoko was a lovely teacher. Extremely knowledgeable and very patient with us! Really fun activity to do in Tokyo, especially on a rainy day!
Yoko is just the very best teacher!!!! We had a great time doing our t-shirts and talking with Yoko was the icing on the cake. It was very easy to find her studio from the directions she gave. I highly recommend this class!!!
There isn't enough stars to say how amazing this was. The sweet lady who hosted the event was one of the nicest people I've met in my life, let alone Japan. She was very accommodating and hand made a Kanji I wanted to do for me on the spot. She was a fantastic conversationalist, insightful and funny, made it even better. She served little homemade snacks and tea, then to top it off, gave me some extra hand made gifts she made herself. The activity was a LOT of fun and she was very helpful. I can't stress enough how much you should do this activity while in Japan. You genuinely will not regret it.

We absolutely loved this experience!! Yoko and Marian are both so sweet and welcoming. After we finished with our shirts they brought out traditional Japanese appetizers, desserts and tea for us to try. Marian even helped me fine tune my chopstick skills. Of all the experiences we had in Japan this was my favorite. I would recommend Yoko and Marian a thousand times.
This activity was such a unique experience and we are very glad to have signed up. By the end, we learned a little about Japanese culture, ate some food we might not have tried otherwise, and had two t-shirts we can wear when we get home.
Prior to our activity, we got a message telling us where to meet (at the base of the Skytree) and we were able to explore that area before meeting. When we got to the bridge, we were promptly met and walked over to the studio, which was very close by and up a flight of stairs. Upon entering, we changed from our shoes to slippers and hung up our pesky coats, and then we got right into some art.
To begin, my wife and I were each given t-shirt options to select from - different sizes and either black or white colors. We both chose black shirts. We then selected the paint colors; my wife chose lime green and I chose blue. And finally, we were shown different designs to select from that we could paint on our shirts.
After making all the choices, we then used wax pencils to draw the designs out on our shirts. We each did this a little differently, but at the end, we had nicely sketched designs. We then go to paint these. My wife did hers very neat and added the word Tokyo under it. Mine was a little messier, and I accidentally dripped paint, so I added several more drips on purpose so it had some chaos. After dabbing up extra paint, we then hung these to dry.
While drying, we then were treated to traditional Japanese foods and treats. If you do this, make sure you try them all. There was only one my wife didn’t like, and I different one I didn’t like, so it was neat to compare. I probably wouldn’t have tried some of these treats and sweets in another environment, and now I also learned some about that as well. We also had some tea with the snacks, and I think we might be adding this to our shopping list to bring home.
After our snacks, we packed up the now dry shirts carefully. And then were given some neat takeaways to try when we get home with our nieces - a lantern and fan with some tools to draw designs on them. As well as a notecards and a slip of paper to write our names on for her to pray for us in future.
This was a truly one of a kind experience and we met a couple of nice people and have great memories to take home.
The woman was excellent. I was the only booking so I also got a 1:1 experience. I’d recommend this to anyone on the fence.
A fabulous moment! Our host and teacher was adorable, really amazing kindness for 1 hour.
We wrote about pretty lanterns and discuss our cultural differences. It was one of our favorite moments during our trip to Japan.
Thank you very much!

Thank you for your nice review. I am so happy you liked the sushi prepared for you. Since we found out the ferry you had planned to take to Pusan was not in service until the end of October, I am wondering if you could book the plane ticket all right as you hoped.
Danke and waiting for you to study Japanese together.
