The best way to see San Fran!

Karen_G, Apr 2026
What an amazing day! Dara made this day magical, giving interesting details, but not too much information. She struck a great balance! Her expertise with juggling the timing of multiple types of transport was exemplary. The things we saw were fabulous… a wonderful overview of all that San Francisco offers and many insights that would not have been learned without the benefit of the tour. It was fun, calm, and simply lovely to just ‘follow the leader’, removing all stress from exploring the city, along with the bonus of being able to relax while we explored. There was a wonderful variety in the city areas visited, from food, multi cultural areas, architecture, transport, music, hippie era, equality, and historical connections. This was a super day out, offering a fantastic overview of everything San Francisco!

Jamie was an awesome tour guide. He was very informed and keep a great pace throughout the day. I would highly recommend this tour.

A memorable trip

KIRANCHANDRA_S, Mar 2026
It was a wonderful experience, not to miss. I and my wife both enjoyed a lot. Dara is a very knowledgeable person, explaining with zeal, the history of San Francisco and all the places we visited. We traveled in a couple of cable cars, a bus, a train, walked the streets and enjoyed . Worth taking this tour, that really takes us through San Francisco, with a lot of information about the places and their significance. Thank you Dara for making this trip memorable for both of us.

Worth it!

This is one of the best walking tours we have ever been on. We learned more about San Francisco and the various areas of the city and we would’ve ever gotten to know on our own. Our guide was so informative about his city and very friendly and easy-going.

Wide coverage of city

We had a great tour with our guide Jamie. Our guide Jamie was very knowledgeable and informative. He really made the tour enjoyable. I must warn you, this tour has a lot of walking involved. I would recommend spending less time in certain neighborhoods. The best part was riding the cable cars.

Great way to see the city, but be prepared for a lot of walking. Since we were the only 2 on the tour, Dara was able to customize it to prioritize the places we most wanted to see. She was great!

Great day in San Francisco

Kent_B, Jun 2025
See the entire city. Get around from neighborhood to neighborhood by “cable car” , street car, city buses and subway. A fair amount of walking but tour guide planned the route to minimize walking uphill. Our guide Darra was wonderful. She accompanied every custom itinerary change I suggested and offered us options several times thought our tour.

Our tour guide really knew his stuff. He was very informative and engaging. Our 8 hour tour was pretty physical.

Great walking tour.

Shradha_S, May 2025
Mark was a great tour guide. He knew everything about San Francisco rock and roll stars that lived here. He took us to where George Harrison and Janis Joplin crosswalk. Mark also took a detour to show us the full house was. There was a lot of walking so wear good shoes.

Highly recommend

Carthage_L, May 2025
This was an amazing tour from start to finish! Our guide, Dara, was just fabulous - we got to walk, use the cable car, street car, train and other forms of public transport and Waymo - as we are international travellers we couldn’t download the app to use so this was a truly unique experience for us🤩 Dara provided us with information, history and stories that only a local could provide. Highly recommend this tour and our guide Dara.

We would like to extend our thanks to Mark our guide for the day, who was very informative, knowledgable and funny throughout the tour. He showed us the key areas around the whole city and we couldn’t recommend this tour highly enough. Very very good!!!

San Francisco Full day Tour by (Cable Car?? not) and Foot (a lot of walking!)

Mike_T, May 2025
This tour was very disapointing and I would not recommend it. Activity details were vague and we had to walk a mile from the cruise terminal to meet the guide. The cable cars were not running in the areas in our tour, but we did get to sit on one for a few blocks after taking a detour via public bus. Did not visit the cable car museum. Time waiting for the public buses (about 8) was a waste. Total time walking uphill and downhill was 6 1/2 hours and strenuous. The tour guide spent a lot of time talking about his wife's involvement in the community the past decades (AIDS, Gay communities, anti Vietnam demonstrations, etc.). I have nothing to complain about these but would have prefered hearing about San Francisco history. If details were more in detail, I would not have purchased this one. Even though this was a small group, he spoke mostly to those immediately around him. Those of us who walk slower were left out most of the time.

Response from Host, May 2025

It's unfortunate that this guest didn't enjoy his tour, which is what we always want. However it's important to correct some misunderstandings that they seem to have. Activity details ARE fully detailed. It's incumbent on potential guests to read the information that we've put there. We can't force people to read it. We do not offer pick-up from the cruise terminal, guests need to get to and from the tour on their own (they can Uber if they want :-). We do not usually visit the Cable Car Museum on weekdays, we go to City Hall. San Francisco is known for its place in LGBTQ+ and anti-Vietnam War history, that IS the city's history. We take cable cars, buses and streetcars on this tour. It's not 6.5 hours walking, not least because guests have an hour for lunch in the Haight. It's also in the description that the tour is not suitable for people with mobility issues, and this guests fails to mention that there was someone with significant difficulties on the tour. This meant that the guide was taking care to always be in proximity to that guest. In addition to unusually severe issues with the cable car system, this made the job much more challenging for the guide. Again, it's up to potential guests to make up their own mind, but this tour is for open, curious people, who are able to walk a decent amount and appreciate an experienced and highly-rated guide. If that sounds like you, please do make a booking, we'd love to show you the real SF. If not no problem, just book with another company that better fits your needs and expectations.

Great day to explore San Francisco

Amazing informative and memorable tour with Dara . Knowledgeable about history and local tips n tricks

The tour was a full 8...

William_H, Apr 2025
The tour was a full 8 hour day with lots of walking. This is definitely not for those with any sort of mobility or stamina concerns. Mark, our guide, provided an almost nonstop torrent of historical information and personal opinions that eventually wore me down to where I finally stopped paying attention to what he was yammering on about. It was simply too much to listen to over such an extended period of time.

Response from Host, Apr 2025

We're really sorry that this guest didn't seem to enjoy the tour as much as we'd like. We always strive for 5 star reviews - it's why we do this. Nevertheless we'd like to put the review into some context. They are 100% correct that this tour is not recommended for people with mobility issues. We state that clearly on the booking page. However we had a guest with significant mobility issues on the tour, meaning that it moved much more slowly than normal. Regrettably it was also one of the very few days when there were issues with BOTH the cable cars AND streetcars. In this situation the guide had to rapidly reconfigure the tour, as he shepherded them carefully to the best spots in the city. We always believe in treating guests, and indeed everyone, with respect. We don't feel it's fair to characterize Mark in the way they have, when in reality he was doing his job to the best of his ability in somewhat trying circumstances. It's important to note that Mark has also got a ton of 5 star reviews, over his time with us. Nevertheless we'd definitely like this guest to contact us with more details of their experience. We'd also like to offer them a discount on our day tours with sister companies Real London Experiences and The Real Los Angeles Tours. to be used if the guest ever takes a cruise in Southern California or Europe. - Catalina

We had a larger group...

Kathlyn_D, Apr 2025
We had a larger group than this description lists which made it difficult to get on/off buses. We logged over 17,000 steps even though this was a cable car tour. Guide was nice enough but he was eager to share his personal opinions about things and we ended up spending more time in areas he felt passionate about while skipping about 1/3 of the items listed on the itinerary altogether. (Dolores Park is “just a big field” but I was really looking forward to going there to see the views of the city from.) Some of the skips may have been due to the size of our group too and the transportation challenges that brought. We started losing folks from our tour fairly quickly. There wasn’t a lot of reading the room so to speak. Public transportation passes were noted to be included in this tour but you end up dropped off in Chinatown - if you make it to the end - without a pass to get you back to your hotel, etc. because they were all on his phone and he wouldn’t transfer them to you at the end. He said to “just hop on in the back and no one would check.”

Response from Host, May 2025

We're sorry that these guys didn't seem to enjoy the tour more. We always strive to give guests a 5 star experience and it doesn't seem like it was for them. However it looks like there may have been some misunderstandings. First of all there were 15 guests, which is listed as the maximum group size on TA/Viator, where they booked. We often get groups of this size - the tour is very popular - and that doesn't in our experience negatively affect the tour in any way. Secondly, guests walk an average of 4-5 miles, as stated in the tour description, where they booked. Thirdly, the cable cars don't cover huge distances. Fourthly, other than Dolores Park the tour DID visit all the usual places we go. The reason the guide skipped the park is because most of the guests were hungry and wanted lunch. Fifthly, the Cherry Blossom Festival did create some issues with public transport, but this is something we cannot control and it didn't seem to be a major issue. Sixthly, several guests had booked the half day tour, and a few others had booked an Alcatraz cruise at 5 pm - which explains why some guests dropped out before these guys. Finally, metro travel is included DURING the tour, however we cannot transfer passes onto guests phones because the MUNI app doesn't allow it, not because the guide didn't want to do it (and we don't offer that option). The end point is only about 10-15 minutes walk from the starting point, but most guests dont need to return there. Guests are responsible to get themselves to the tour AND get to wherever they need to be after it ends. In SF it's okay to jump on the bus for a few stops without paying (at least everybody here does it :-). We'd like to point out to potential guests that the following review, by Roxanne, is from the same group and is 5 stars, showing that at least some of the guests on this tour did enjoy it. Nevertheless we'd like for these guests to email us with the details of their tour, so that we can look into these issues in more detail - Catalina.

San fran cable cars, bus and street car tour

The tour guide Mark was excellent, very knowledgeable. Went thru all the neighborhoods and got to enjoy lunch at local restaurant.

Best tour guide ever

Shana_L, Apr 2025
The tour was incredibly informative and fun, and a comprehensive look at the diverse SF neighborhoods with honestly the best tour guide ever!

Education meets fitness …. Walking tour!

Marcela_C, Mar 2025
This walking tour was the best. Jamie our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and provided lots of cool information about the city. He offered good suggestions for photo ops and restaurant recommendations. Walking tour if you’re up for it is the way to go. Fortunately for us there was another family of our same fitness level and motivation and got through everything. Who never is in your group probably my would make a difference on your experience as well. I wish we would have actually gone into the cable museum as it states in the itinerary. My only con about the tour.

Great Adventure!

Barbara_L, Mar 2025
Mike, our tour guide was great! This tour introduced us to the city as we explored a good portion of it, on foot, by Cable Car and public transportation. We learned about the history of San Francisco and experienced many of its highlights. After the tour we felt more confident in exploring on our own using all modes of transportation. This was a full day tour, comfortable shoes are a must as well as being prepared for any type of weather. This is NOT a tour for anyone who has any type of mobility issues.

Great city tour

Christina_S, Feb 2025
Great combo walking, cable car, street car and bus tour. Fabulous way to see the major San Francisco sites. Loved the tour guide’s personal stories and history on the city. Highly recommend the tour. Lots of walking, but worth it

Superb tour

Ian_B, Feb 2025
Absolutely superb experience. The pace of the day was just perfect. We saw so many places we probably wouldn’t have visited without this tour. Highly recommended.

Cable cars, busses , & lots of walking.

Melanie_T, Feb 2025
Could have used less of the LGBTQ Apart of tour. Cable cars are really high to step into. Step stool would have been nice. Mark, the guide was great. Could have heard less about his political views.

Great full day tour!

George_F, Jan 2025
Great tour of San Francisco. If you only have one day, you will get to see most of the city and ride local transit. Mark is a great storyteller and gives great context to what we were seeing. Tour does not include fisherman’s wharf .area. We enjoyed the tour!

City tour for a business travelers who don’t usually get to see the places they visit

Alexander_B, Jan 2025
The tour was fantastic, got a lot of history for the city landmarks and got to learn how to use public transport here which was also very useful. I travel for work often but very rarely get to experience the places I travel.

San Francisco Walking And Riding Tour

Ray_H, Jan 2025
Mark did not cancel, although there were only 2 of us. He had a great personality and was very knowledge about San Francisco history. We went on the trolley and busses, all around San Francisco. Not counting lunchtime, he spent all 8 hours with us. We visited many sites, including the City Hall, the Castro District, Haight And Asbury, the Painted Ladies houses, and more!!
