Wonderful experience!

Sierra_J, Aug 2025
This was such a fun experience to partake in with my family. The stops were amazing with great food and lots of culture. Although I’m allergic to fish and wasn’t able to consume some of the foods, the substitutions were spectacular. If there’s one thing I love to do when I’m on a trip overseas, it’s trying the local food. This tour did not disappoint and I would gladly do it again when I return to Iceland!

Response from Host, Dec 2025

Thank you so much for your wonderful review, Sierra! 😄 We’re thrilled that you and your family had a fun and memorable experience on the food tour. 🍲✨ It’s great to hear that the substitutions worked well for your allergy and that you were able to enjoy the local flavors. Your enthusiasm for trying local food is exactly what makes these tours so special! We truly appreciate your feedback and can’t wait to welcome you back on another culinary adventure in Iceland! 🌟 With gratitude and warm regards Steina Your Friend In Reykjavík & Team

Food tour in Reykjavik during culture day

thora_t, Aug 2025
Good food tour, just happened to be during cultural day which made it busier at the stops and we had to get around marathon to make it to meeting point. Tried numerous foods with some history

Response from Host, Dec 2025

Thank you so much for your review, Thora! 🍽️✨ We’re glad you enjoyed the food tour and had the chance to try so many dishes while learning a bit of history. We appreciate your understanding about the busier day due to cultural events—it certainly made the tour extra lively! 😄 We hope to see you again soon for another delicious adventure in Reykjavík! 🏙️❤️ With gratitude and warm regards Steina Your Friend In Reykjavík & Team

Crazy Day!

HARRIET_J, Aug 2025
Overall this tour was good. The fellow were friendly fun to be around! Our guide was kind and didn’t rush us around. The downside is that this excursion was scheduled around two citywide events that made navigating horrendous!! Our meeting Basecamp was moved at the last minute which pushed everything back almost an hour! We never made it to the flea market which was going to be the highlight of this excursion. The food was good but the world famous hotdog stand was a complete bust!! Nothing noteworthy about this hotdog! Give me Chicago style hot dog any day of the week!!

Food and Flea Market Tour

Hazel_P, Aug 2025
This was a fabulous tour. Ester was a wonderful guide, knowledgeable and friendly and my family of four (with two youngish 20-something) really enjoyed trying unique Icelandic dishes and hearing the stories behind them as well as learning about Icelandic history and culture. Pro tip: don’t eat lunch first! I tried to warn my husband but he had to learn the hard way. 😅

Wrong Tour, But Oh So Good!

Robin_A, Feb 2025
First thing was our tour guide was fantastic. Second thing - we were not booked on this tour! Somehow we were booked onto a food tour but not this one as advertised with stop at Flea Market. Disappointed as I had selected the tour carefully based on food stops that this picky eater could manage and a visit to see what the flea market was like. That said, we lucked out as our guide was so warm and knowledgeable he made the tour come alive. Mid-tour when we discovered the error, he pivoted and took us to the flea market just to see what it was all about. With the exception of not getting to try the ryebread ice cream from the original tour, his version was interesting and delicious! The lamb hot dogs and lobster soup are highlights to be sure. Would definitely tour with him again!

Response from Host, Apr 2025

Dear Robin, Firstly, thank you for your kind words about our guide and for sharing your story with us! We sincerely apologize for the booking confusion and understand how important it is to get the experience you were looking forward to, especially as a careful planner and picky eater. We're so glad our guide could pivot and ensure you still experienced the flea market and some local delicacies. Your feedback will help us enhance our processes moving forward. We hope you'll return one day so we can provide you with the perfect food tour, possibly complete with rye bread ice cream! With gratitude and warm regards Steina Your Friend In Reykjavík & Tea

Our guide was great. He was knowledgeable and friendly. The walk isn’t strenuous but a good hike up hill some of the time. .

A must do tour

Tammy_G, Sep 2024
We did this tour the 1st day of arriving and what a start to our vacation. Ester E. was our tour guide and did we get lucky to get the best! Ester was soooo knowledgeable of Iceland history that she shared with us. Ester also shared stories of the different foods (that were different in taste for us Americans) that Icelandics have available and not available due to the volcanic land and weather. It was just soooo interesting. THANK YOU ESTER E.

Disappointed to miss the Icelandic hot dog

Kathryne_P, Aug 2024
While our guide, Paul, was knowledgeable and a decent guide, we were very disappointed that “the line was too long” at the hot dog stand. The description plays up the Icelandic lamb hot dog, but we didn’t get that at all. The guide said he would try to get us a voucher so we could go back later, but that didn’t happen either. The market visit was a quick walk through, where we were shown dried cod and a frozen sheep head. Overall, we felt we did not get the tour we paid for, and the food we did get really wasn’t enough to be called a lunch (two small bowls of soup, a small piece of cod, and a small dessert). We weren’t hungry at the end, but we weren’t full either.

Amazing watesfalls

Einor was a great and gracious guide. He was very informative about the culture and history of Iceland, we learned a lot . He was easy to talk to and made us feel welcome .

10/10 experience

Megan_M, Mar 2024
Tour guide Stefan was amazing! Started off late but he was a wonderful speaker and had lots of great stories of the history of Iceland. I'm not so sure why viator had flea market advertised but we did stop at a local shop and sampled some local Icelandic treats. Tour was very fun and would definitely go back just for the hotdog lol. Also tour could go longer then expected so make sure not have to much planned the day of your tour.

Fun food tour

Anonymous, Feb 2024
It was a great tour and Oli was a great guide. We tried a wide variety of Icelandic dishes and most memorable was the shark. Not too much walking but up and down stairs in the restaurants which could be difficult with mobility issues. Oli took pics of the group which was nice

Response from Host, Jul 2025

Thank you so much for your wonderful review and for choosing Your Friend In Reykjavik for your food tour! We’re thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the variety of Icelandic dishes, and that Óli helped make your experience memorable (shark included!). We also appreciate your feedback about the stairs in some restaurants – we’ll keep this in mind when advising future guests with mobility concerns. We hope you enjoyed the photos Óli took and look forward to welcoming you back on your next adventure to Reykjavik! With gratitude and warm regards Steina Your Friend In Reykjavík & Team

A great start to our trip

Michelle_F, Dec 2023
We had a blast exploring he city and trying some new things. We did this tour on the afternoon of the day we arrived and it knocked out any jet lag we might have had. I highly recommend this tour and would do it again!

Great little trip for orientation

Samantha_B, Oct 2023
A very knowledgeable guide - took us to a few different places to try the local food. Really enjoyed this trip and if I get back to Iceland, will do this one again

Worthwhile tour in Reykjavik

Grace_R, Sep 2023
Food tour was enjoyable and nice range of foods were provided on tour. Guide was knowledgable and was able to successfully navigate a couple of glitches that were presented by the food establishments. Tour was able to accommodate the food allergy issues of several participants. Various points of interest also highlighted during the tour. Helped to navigate the area later when sightseeing. Would definitely recommend.

Response from Host, Oct 2023

Great to hear Grace and thank you for leaving us a review. Regards Valur

Make sure you have the lamb hotdogs in Reykjavik!

Mark_G, Aug 2023
While we enjoyed the food, we found our guide not very talkative and needed to keep asking questions to elicit details and information about the city and Iceland.

Eating in Iceland

Tracy_L, Jul 2023
Stefan did a great job introducing the the food and explaining its origins. Nice trivia about Iceland along the way.

Excellent Tour

Jennifer_S, Jun 2023
Ólafur was so informative and happily answered all our questions, even when we got him off track ;) He was so genuinely kind, didn't rush, was a wonderful story teller and super funny. We enjoyed learning so much about Iceland's food and history. All of the food was excellent and the flea market was incredible. We had a wonderful time!

Helen_R, Aug 2022
The tour was very interesting especially all the food that we tried. Didn’t care much for the shark, can’t even describe the taste. I was very surprised how the whale meat tasted, it tasted like steak. All the other food was delicious also. Ester E, our guide, was very friendly and knowledgeable about Iceland.

Great way to experience Icelandic Food

Rebecca_W, Jul 2022
What an awesome tour! Our tour guide was wonderful and very knowledgeable. She explanied the stores behind the restaurants we went to and backgrounds on the food we were trying. Got to try some food I wouldn't normally try and I'm so glad I did.
