Itinerary

Meet your guide in central Prague and travel by comfortable coach to Prague Castle, the UNESCO-listed fortified complex that gazes across the Vltava River to Prague Old Town.

Head inside and set off on your walking tour of this architectural tour-de-force. Hear from your guide how it began to take shape in the 10th century, growing into a mighty power base for Bohemia’s kings and Holy Roman Emperors.

Stroll through the courtyards past palaces and monuments and visit St. Vitus Cathedral, the seat of the Archbishop of Prague. Admire the stunning Gothic building and its interior, and learn how it remained incomplete until 1929.

Move on to the Old Royal Palace, the residence of Bohemia’s princes and kings for more than 700 years; admire the Basilica of St. George; and continue to Golden Lane, tucked under the walls. This postcard-worthy cobbled lane is famous for its brightly painted 15th-century cottages that served as dwellings for castle artisans, servants, alchemists, and goldsmiths.

Head inside some of the houses to see their replica scenes of medieval life and browse the cottages converted into arty shops. Afterward, leave the castle and end your tour at the Charles Bridge.

Impressive Castle

Barry_U, Dec 2019
Our guide was well versed in all information and history, taking us on a full adventure of the immense castle..... It was very crowded this day and without the guide it would have been challenging

Difficult and inefficient

Rwolf1987, Oct 2019
I wanted this tour to serve as a capable introduction and orientation to Prague's castle area. Regrettably, it was challenging from the start. The guide, who I'm sure was educated and experienced on the subject matter, was very soft spoken with a heavy accent. This wouldn't be a problem if headsets were provided, but they weren't. We heard perhaps 20% of the content. Most of the group got visibly frustrated when we stopped for 30 minutes in a minor chapel in the complex and we sat in two rows of the chapel while the guide spoke to the woman next to her (basically giving her a private tour) and literally no one else could hear her. We were erratically guided the whole way, as she quickly shuffled away from the group from sight to sight, then had to stop and wait for the rest of us to fight though crowds; several times, we lost members which delayed the tour. Other times, she simply carried on to the one or two people who fought through the crowds to stay on her heels (contributing to the majority missing more content). She continually jumped around (sometimes repeating lengthy lectures) and it felt as if she was unprepared in terms of route, content, and delivery. If your only interest is knowing what the buildings are, this would be sufficient. If you're looking for culture, history, and context, look elsewhere.

Very disappointed - read between the lines of what you are getting

Unfortunately this was my last tour of a month long vacation in Europe. I used Viator/tripadvisor for almost all of my tours and this one I requested a partial refund as it was not what was advertised. We ended up with a dual language tour even though we requested an English guide. For the other tours that advertised having English guides it was exclusively English. Do to the guide having to speak both languages we were rushed and very little opportunity to ask question. It felt very manufactured vs paying for a good tour. When I complained the response from the tour group was no where did they advertise language only tours so they were not very sympathetic to their poor communication. Viator did step in and gave me half of my fee back making it more like the value we received. I would recommend looking into another tour company.

A Great way to see Prague Castle

RekhaK, Aug 2019
Signing up for a tour is probably the best way to see Prague Castle. This particular tour was not bad but I give it an average rating. The guide took us around the different parts of Prague Castle and provided history and explanations. But here is where it could have been better: 1. It was hard to hear the tour guide. It would have been better if she had a microphone as I noticed other tour guides had. 2. Part of the castle was closed - we paid full price but were unable to see part of it. It would have been better if we were notified of this prior to the tour (like the day before, so we are prepared) rather than inform us during the tour. 3. I booked an English tour, but all explanations were also translated in German - it would have bee nice to know this ahead of time. 4. The tour ran way over 3 hours. For me it was fine as I did not have anything else planned, but had I booked something else, this would have been a problem. Prague Castle is beautiful and is a must see. A guided tour is probably the best way to see it rather than go on your own.

Great Day

TomF656, Jun 2019
Our guide, John/Johannes was fantatic...very knowledgable and informative. Kept us on time and shared personal experiences about his life in Prague.

Great tour

Celestino_M, Jun 2019
The tour company and guide are excellent. The Prague Castle is extremely crowded but very interesting. The Golden Lane has mostly shops and a water faucet with clean water for thirsty visitors. Overall a very good tour.

GREAT DAY OUT

Prague castle Walking tour

Ayemun, Sep 2018
It was a good one but one of the room was not opened due to the official reason. Though we arrived at 12 noon, we could not see the change of guards because we were not at the right entrance. I wished the guide put some more effort for us to make that happen by arriving earlier.

This was an absolutely wonderful tour and our guide was very knowledgeable and most helpful in answering all our questions.

A beautiful castle an even more...

Renate V, Apr 2018
A beautiful castle an even more beautiful church. Worthwhile to go on the tour that you can see everything inside. I just felt very claustrophobic because of soooo many people!! No preferential lines for people who have booked tours, you queue just like everybody else. Maybe they should consider early entry for groups or something like that? Because of so many people there was very little time to take photos or appreciate what you see. It felt like we were rushed through to make way for more people. I would like to do this tour again at a time when there are fewer people in the church

Wonderful thorough tour! The castle complex is so large and our guide kept us on point, and the coffee break allowed us to ask more questions! Highly recommended!

John L, Dec 2017
We got unlucky with the combined german/ english tour only 2 germans in our group, who also spoke english, which was quite frankly slow. The guide was not engaging at all!

Charles D, Nov 2017
The Prague Castle tour was as expected....very good. We were transported by a small bus from the city center up to the top of Castle Hill. The tour guide was very informative, telling us about the history of the Castle. We were able to comfortably see what we wanted to see. Lots of walking during this 3.5 hour tour. Only thing I would change would be to allow some shopping time on Golden Lane before walking down the hill.

Tour was very disjointed. Guide...

Michael N, Nov 2017
Tour was very disjointed. Guide tried hard but 2 French speaking people so the 15 others had to stand around as every site was discussed in French. Never paused for a bathroom break for 3 hrs. My tours with Absolute tours were much better.

I enjoyed this tour. Guide was very knowledgeable and a nice person. He answered everyone's questions with detail and enthusiasm. He likes his job and it showed! Made for an enjoyable tour. Would recommend this tour.

Alissa_M, Oct 2017
The castle grounds are so large it would be really hard to take it all in without a tour. Our guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic about her subject which made it that much more interesting. The tour was a lot of walking, often up hill, and usually on uneven cobblestones. One of the members of our group had her elderly mother with her, and it became clear that the walking was really challenging. For me, the walking was great and the view of the city from the top of the hill was spectacular! I highly recommend this tour!

Excellent tour guide who went out of...

Kelly L, Oct 2017
Excellent tour guide who went out of her way to explain the detailed history of Prague. She kept the tour lively and was able to keep the attention of children to adults. At the end of the tour she went out of her way to direct us to another historical site we wanted to visit that was not on the tour. Our tour was bi-lingual English and Spanish.

Very nice job from our Tour Guide...

Michael B, Oct 2017
Very nice job from our Tour Guide, what kept things flowing and got us through a very busy area. only reason not a 5 is the castle itself is so busy we spent a lot of time in lines, being jostled in a crowd.

Yelena_Z, Oct 2017
It was a great tour, very informative, we only had 6 people in the group and it was great! The guide was very nice and accommodating, she was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions including the ones outside of the tour content. I would say that visit the castle without the guide wouldnt be as interesting and informative. Some things you should know: this tour is really long and you have to stand or walk the entire time, so be prepared for that, also many city tours stop at the castle and give some basic information about it so if you dont have time you may skip the castle tour, but if you can do it, I highly recommend it.

Excellent tour and outstanding...

Patricia_C, Sep 2017
Excellent tour and outstanding guide! Our guide clearly feels proud of being Czech and took the time to point out every important detail of the Castle. She made this tour unforgettable.

We signed up for an English tour...

Danny K, Sep 2017
We signed up for an English tour. But found out that they do the tour in 2 Languages. So we were on the English/Spanish tour. The guide would explain everything in English for 7 of us and then re-explain everything again in Spanish for 3 people. We noticed the same on an English/German tour with the same company. So the tour really takes twice as long and you spend a lot of time listening in another language. It really disturbs the flow of the tour and makes it really long and leaves the feeling that there is more information you could be getting during this time. Its not the guides fault obviously the company has decided this is a good experience. I could tell we missed things that I would l have heard if I would have just rented the audio tour at the castle. I would recommend if something like this bothers you... double check to see if they do 2 languages at the same time. We couldn't wait for the tour to be over it really felt like a waste of time.

These tour are all about the guides...

Diego_H, Sep 2017
These tour are all about the guides and I got a VERY soft spoken one and basically could not hear anything. No one in our could and we were all laughing about it. Don't get me wrong, she was very sweet and nice and all that, but I got nothing out of the tour and should have just gotten the audio guides that are available at the castle. This tour was not 3 hours. We were in the van 1 hour and still not at the castle. We had to go to the other side of town in traffic to a second meeting spot to pick up a second group of people which cut into our time significantly. My advice- be certain that you will get what you are expecting or just get the audio guides. For us, there was no benefit in having a tour guide for this event.

The guide was wonderful, however...

CHARLES L, Sep 2017
The guide was wonderful, however, shame on Viator and Prague Sightseeing Tours, for having English and French speaking tour group. The guide had to translate everything which resulted in less information for both the English and the French. Plus, there were no audio transmitting devices. The road noise and crowd noise made it very difficult to hear. I believe my party of 4 people only heard about 30 of what the guide said. My previous experience with Viator tours in Rome was that the guide always used the audio devices. Very disappointing, but NOT because of the tour guide, but because of poor organization by the tour company.
