22 persons is not a small group

Irene_B, Aug 2026
Verry nice and competent guide. 22 persons is not a small group! Apart from us and an other couple, it was a big group: they came about 15 minutes to late (14:45), they didn’t apologise, were very loud.

Response from Host, Aug 2026

Thank you very much for your feedback and for your kind words about our guide. We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed that part of the experience. We would just like to clarify one point: there were 20 participants on this tour, which is also the maximum group size stated in our booking conditions. We are sorry that the delayed arrival of some participants affected your experience. We truly appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback and will continue to do our best to ensure all our tours run as smoothly as possible.

Port Tastings

Susan_B, Jul 2026
Like all of Porto this tour is both up hill and down. The Port houses are not the big ones and therefore really interesting to see how the small producers work. Very good but do have a good lunch before.

Response from Host, Jul 2026

Experienced 3 wineries...

Mackenzie_M, May 2026
Experienced 3 wineries and 3 different wines at each winery. The first winery was very informational but the rest were more for drinking. The group was big so the guide was not always helpful or educational. Guide was pleasant and other group members made it a good experience.

Not much walking, yes some sipping, too much talking.

TeriD_J, Apr 2026
Be prepared to drink nice little tastings if nine port wines, but having to listen to endless talking about everything from the history of the entire region to the microclimate of each grape grown to who produced it and when and in and on and on…… far too much talking.

Port wine is great!

Dave_M, Mar 2026
Matters, our guide, was knowledgeable and fun. He did a good job of explaining the wine business of the Douro valley and the making of port.

Jacquelyn_S, Feb 2026
Rico was a fun guide to lead a walking tour. We went to two places for tasting. The food at the first place wasn't great but the wine was fine. We then walked through Alfama and had more food and wine which was much better. Rico is very knowledgeable and we had a fun evening with him.

Rita was the star!

Raul_R, Dec 2025
Rita was the highlight of the tour. Great energy and enthusiasm. The wineries were historic and small producers. Great group of fellow guests too!

Learned a lot!

Dorothy_D, Nov 2025
Ricardo was knowledgeable about the process and history of port wine. No doubt he has been doing this for many years (and did seem a bit bored presenting the tour). We loved that he took us to Portuguese wineries and not the big “British” ones. It felt more authentic. Don’t worry about tasting 10 different wines and ports - the serving sizes are small and over a couple of hours, so quite manageable. We suggest going after a good lunch and enjoy the good varieties offered.

Great Tour!

Karen_P, Oct 2025
A lovely way to spend an afternoon in Gaia. Ricardo was very informative and explained all about the processes and differences between between the Port Wines. We went to 3 local and small wineries although not the 3 stated on the itinerary. There was no olive oil or honey tasting as stated. The walk was quite steep at first which some may need to be aware of but very doable for most people. Would defiantly recommend.

Wine walking tour

Anna_C, Oct 2025
Richards was very nice and he seemed to know a lot about the wines/ports wineries that we went to. He was very friendly

Wonderful experience

Wellington_C, Oct 2025
It was great . Everything was perfect . I definitely would recommend people to go on this tour to understand lots about Porto wine

Good Wine, Good People

Patrick_B, Oct 2025
It starts with a little uphill climb, but then it’s all easy back to the start. Guide was great, and the tastings were all very good. Always good company at these type of excursions.

Highly recommend! We had a guide named Ricardo who was fun and extremely knowledgeable about all the winemaking processes and history. All the wines we tasted on the tour were delicious

Walking Wine Tour

Ellen_C, Sep 2025
The description of the amount of walking and the level of difficulty varies with each tour and can make the difference between someone being able to participate and not. Despite what I was told prior to the tour and what actually occurred prevented my husband from participating. That said, the actual tour was great. Our guide was friendly and very knowledgeable. The wines were diverse and good to very good. It was a great way to get a tasting of what the area has to offer.

Very fun, relaxed tour of 3 small port/ wine companies. Pedro was very knowledgeable and an excellent guide. Lovely way to spend the afternoon in Gaia.

Great experience, great wines

Michael_S, Aug 2025
Great way to explore the world of Port wine. Very knowledgeable and friendly guide. Best value for your $ considering this is the only tour with 10 tastings

Ignored

Ebban_J, Jul 2025
Wines were good, guide not so much. There were no samples of olive oil or honey. At the beginning, the Guide just walked past me, introduced himself to the people sitting next to me and then went on to everyone else in the area, even those not on the tour. Rather than speak to me he called the office to let them know one person from the list was missing. I'm not sure if he just assumed that I was not part of the tour or just hoped that I wasn't. There may have been some reason for this but since I was the only person of color, it's kind of hard not to assume that was not the main one. The information on the tour was pretty basic.

Porto wine tasting.

Great afternoon in Porto on our wine tasting tour. Pedro was great. Extremely knowledgeable and good fun. We really enjoyed the whole experience.

Tarun_T, Jul 2025
Pedro was a fantastic tour guide. He was clearly very knowledgeable about wines in Porto but also about the city in general. He provided a big list of recommendations for places to go in Porto which was very helpful.

Good overview of port wine.

Tonya_S, Jun 2025
The tour guide, Pedro, was very friendly and knowledgeable. We toured 3 places and surprisingly the larger Port house, Fonseca, was our favorite, perhaps because of the very detailed and helpful tour and lesson we received from Sergio. I would recommend to anyone who is new/newer to port wine.

Michael_O, May 2025
