Itinerary
Meet your guide at Milan Central Station, and relax on the journey either by train or minibus to Lake Como. Stop to stretch your legs and soak up the lake views before the journey continues.
The route passes through Italy’s Valtellina valley, a beautiful area that cuts through the mountains. After a stop in a typical winery or café, continue to Tirano for a quick lunch (own expense) before boarding the Bernina Train on the Express railway.
Aboard the little red train, pass high into the hills, crossing bridges and viaducts along the way. The terrain here is rugged yet scenic, and lends itself to sweeping views of the Alps and lakes.
Disembark at Ospizio Bernina (summer) or Diavolezza (winter). Continue by coach or minibus to the mountain town of St. Moritz for shopping and walking, then travel onward to Colico for your train back to Milan.

We had the best day with our guide Raffaele. It is a long trip but so worth it. Everything we saw was gorgeous. Our guide was knowledgeable and was fun to be around. We were grouped with three other couples, which was a nice size group. Raffaele took us to some of the most beautiful places. We are very glad we chose this tour.

The day was absolutely fabulous, exactly as expected! The tour operator went above and beyond (including photos) to ensure clarity on meeting point (which is always stressful for me!)
Also, Raffaelle sat our group on the train in a way that we could “share” window views at various points [there truly is no side that is better than the other. It changes during the journey!]
It is a full day trip from Milan, definitely worth doing if you can spare a day. Going through lake Como and catching the train to the Swiss alps. Luca was a great guide, careful driver, polite and very friendly.
From the very clear meet up directions to the last goodbyes, our tour guide Raphaele and driver Giuseppe made our 12 hour excursion into the Swiss Alps an amazing experience. We met at the Milan train station and our small group boarded a very nice, clean and comfortable luxury van. We spent the first part of our tour traveling to Lake Como and a quick stop to the lovely Nera vineyard where we had a private tour led by Raphaele. After a quick glass of wine and snacks, we drove up to board the Bernina train. The scenery was absolutely stunning, our guide gave us just the right amount of history and information. He was delightful and created a feeling of belonging in our small group. We couldn’t have been more pleased. After our gorgeous train journey, we stopped briefly in St.Moritz. Our driver drove through the scary mountain switchbacks so smoothly, he was a true professional. I couldn’t recommend this tour company, our guide Raphaele and driver Giuseppe more highly. It was a tour that I will never forget!
This is a must do experience if you are visiting Northern Italy. A detour into the Swiss Alps is the perfect complement. The sites from the drive, the stop at Lake Como, and all aspects of the Bernina train ride are simply breathtaking. Our guide Luca was the best, so friendly, engaging, and knowledgeable. He made an already amazing adventure even better. He even drew up little maps and told what to expect every step of the way!
Expect an unbelievably beautiful train ride through the Swiss Alps. This was truly the highlight of our time in Milano. Picturesque views at every turn, we were amazed by the sheer beauty of terrain.
Paola our tour guide was phenomenal. We took the train into Bellano to meet our driver Ivan and stopped along our route to Torano for a quick stretch and break. We had lunch in Torano before boarding the train for an unforgettable experience!
Extra plus of having a small group, Paola was extremely helpful and personable!!!
We cannot speak highly enough of Luca’s tour. It was an excellent trip with great views, good information, and well-timed and planned stops.
We met our tour facilitator at the Milan Central Station, where she helped us board the regional train that would take us to Bellano on Lake Como to meet our tour guide. Our guide Luca was waiting for us at the Bellano train station and was easy to spot. We boarded his tour van and set out for our first stop along the shores of Lake Como for photos, coffee, and restrooms. We then departed for the drive to Tirano, stopping along the way at a farmer’s co-op, where we enjoyed some of the best gelato we’ve ever eaten. At Tirano, we boarded the Bernina Red Train for the trip through the alps. Luca gave us instructions and left to drive to our meeting spot on the other end of the train ride. The train trip itself was breathtaking, with stunning views everywhere you looked. We met Luca at the other end and drove to St. Moritz for shopping and sight-seeing before returning by van to the regional train station to return to Milan.
Luca provided great information along the entire trip as well as provided us with details we would need (such as a marked map for the train trip pointing out specific points of interest and photo opportunities). The stops were well planned. We highly recommend Luca and his tour.
There is a lot of travel time involved but Luca was a wonderful guide sharing lots of information along the way. He also prepared a helpful map for the Bernina ride itself. Great tour!
Highlight of our recent trip! I was hesitant about the really long day but this tour was so highly organised that the day just flowed perfectly! Lots of opportunities for stopping along the way, whether it was to have a coffee in Bellano, a stop at a gift shop where we purchased a lovely bottle of wine to a beautiful lunch in Tirano (great recommendation from our tour guide) with lots of other surprise stops to break up the day. The train ride was so impressive, the scenery is spectacular. We were extremely lucky to have a very intimate group of 3!!!!!! The meeting point of the tour was easy to find and communication with Luca was exceptional.
Sometimes when you are on holiday it is not about the amazing places you visit but it is about the incredible people you meet - and this was our tour guide Giulia. She is AMAZING! She is warm, super friendly and very knowledgeable. She is a credit to this tour.

The company was extremely organized collecting us up and getting us on the train. At the train stop, Luca was there to take us around. Luca was highly knowledgeable and got us around no problems or worries. Only bummer was that the chocolate place is closed on Thursday’s and that was the day we had our tour. Snowed a lot that day making the mountains even more beautiful!
It was a great was to experience the Swiss Alps, they do a great job of combining train and van transportation to allow you to see the most but also efficient on travel time.

Absolutely incredible. Thoroughly recommend doing this fantastic scenic train ride as part of a small group. Marie, our guide looked after us so well, and Fabio our driver was fabulous. Cannot rate LUCAitlay any higher from booking to the end of the tour they made the trip totally stress free. I had wanted to take the Bernina Express for some time and it was just perfect. Would definitely recommend! Long day with lots of stops. Great to see Lake Como in the off season. Plenty of time in various stops for coffee, lunch, shopping, etc. The views from the train were spectacular! Luca was a great guide! Very knowledgeable and adapted quickly to local train strikes. A great way to spend a day outside of Milan!
Good instructions for meeting venue, found easily, met by Paula a lovely lady who saw us on the train and waited till we departed and waved us off. Joined later on train by Marie our guide for the day who was very knowledgeable and friendly, when we disembarked the train we met our driver Luca a lovely yams excellent safe driver. We saw and did a lot more than expected and both Marie and Luca went out of their way to make our day very special. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and would definitely recommend this trip to anyone, thank you Viator for using Luca from Italy tours as they were amazing.
It's a long day and you're tired by the end of it but post of that tiredness is just the excitement and adrenaline of the views of the apps as you continue your climb. Great guide and a wonderful day punctuated with spectacular mountain views of the Apps and beautiful small towns nestled in gorgeous valleys. Winery was a nice stop along the way and lunch was a welcome break.
I highly recommend this phenomenal tour. It had the right amount of people and the itinerary covered a lot of ground. We had an amazing time from start to finish. My teenage daughter and I journeyed on this adventure together and I must say it was an experience of a lifetime. Luca took great care of us every step of the way. He enriched us with the history of Lake Como, Tirano, Switz Alps, and more. We had an opportunity to stop at a winery on the way, where I enjoyed a glass of wine and complimentary charcuterie snack. The views on the Bernina were breathtaking and Luca provided directional guidance so that everyone knew what to expect as the ride progressed. Our chartered driver was also very pleasant. Do not hesitate to book this tour you will not be disappointed.
The day trip to Bernina Express is an amazing and unforgetable experience! A lot of beautiful landscapes! The Lake Como, the Bernina Express railway and also the return from St. Moritz are all awesome. Luca organized each detail of the tour and everything was good. The tour guide, Raffaele, also did a great job. He led the group very friendly and polite. He also knows very much about the places we visited. I and my friends had a great day!
The tour was great Luca our guide was friendly, informative and very helpful. The whole trip was well organised and definitely recommend the Bernina Red train rather than the panoramic for photographs as all the windows open and the views are spectacular.

This tour is awesome. You get to see Lake Como and a few other quaint cities or villages on your way to St. Moritz in Switzerland. Our tour guide was great and very knowledgeable. The train ride was wonderful. You can pull the windows down and get fantastic pictures of the Alps. It’s a very long day but well worth it.
Luca was a wonderful guide. Very friendly and helpful and took us to a lovely winery. We got two delicious bottles for the train ride. Highly recommend, the views are amazing!
