This excursion was the highlight of our visit to Milan. The van was comfortable and our guide and driver were informative and friendly. We stopped at a beautiful castle with amazing view of the vineyards and the snow capped mountains in the backround. The stop at Alba was so much fun. The town was so clean and beautiful. We had a private visit and tasting of white truffles and hazelnuts which was so informative. The guide made reservations at a Michelin restaurant that was wonderful. I wish we had more time in Alba as there were so many shops I wanted to visit (next time). The wine tasting was the last stop and it was great. The view from the vineyard was spectacular. The whole day was amazing.

This small group of 18 with 2 choices of meeting places was so fun and so convenient. Our guide was fabulous, the van was so nice and the scenery was beautiful. The wine tasting was so good, so fun and in the perfect setting - overlooking the vineyards.

Our trip was fantastic! The town of Alba was so charming. Loved the truffle tasting, then a stop by local outdoor market followed by an incredible lunch outside to take in the quaint while atmosphere. The wine tasting in Barolo region did not disappoint !!! We were provided an intimate wine experience with the family/owners themselves (and I believe tasted 8 red wines in total). The highlight of our entire day was our exceptional guide Oleg!!! He was such a pleasure to spend the day with while sharing a wealth of local knowledge.

One which you must take if visiting the Milan area. This tour takes you to the charming town of Alba with cobblestone streets with plenty of shops and restaurants. In the afternoon, you will visit an old beautiful castle and afterwards visit the Barolo winery with samples of their wonderful wine. A long day but worth it!

Monica was an excellent guide for this memorable excursion in the Langhe region of Italy! Friendly & knowledgeable. I was especially keen to experience the annual white truffle festival in Alba, and she made sure to help me get the most from our time in Alba!
Response from Host, Nov 2025

Well organized, lots of fun. Fabio our driver and our guide Amato were both wonderful. Amato also gave some great restaurant recommendations for lunch in Alba. Very good experience. Highly recommend.

Thank you for your kind words! I’m glad to hear you had such a positive experience with Amato and Fabio—they both take great pride in making each tour smooth, relaxed, and full of good memories. Alba’s food scene never disappoints, and Amato certainly knows where to find the best tables.

A wonderful day trip from Milan! Our guide, Stefano, was friendly, fun, and very knowledgeable about Barolo wines and the region. The tour was well-paced, with plenty of time to enjoy the wine tastings, the charming town of Alba, and the beautiful UNESCO castle. I also appreciated the great restaurant and local food recommendations from Stefano — everything he suggested was spot on. Overall, a well-organized and enjoyable experience for anyone who loves good wine and Italian countryside charm.
Response from Host, Nov 2025
Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! I’m really glad to hear you enjoyed the day and that the pacing, wine, and local stops all came together just right. Sharing the beauty of the Langhe, its Barolo wines, and Alba’s food traditions is always a pleasure—especially with curious travelers who truly appreciate the region’s charm.
Our aim with every Abroads Tours experience is exactly that: small groups, English-only guidance, and a focus on authenticity rather than tourist crowds. I’m delighted it all resonated with you.

Kia was a fantastic tour guide. She was knowledgeable, fun and took note to take care of us at every moment. The wine country was breathtaking! The one winery we stopped at was ok.. wine was fair but not good. I would have liked to stop at more than one winery. Alba was a surprise with such a beautiful quaintness.
Response from Host, Nov 2025
Thank you very much for taking the time to share your thoughts and for your kind words about Kia. She truly embodies the spirit of Abroads Tours—knowledgeable, attentive, and always focused on creating a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. I’m glad to hear you appreciated the beauty of the Langhe and the charm of Alba.
Regarding your comment about the number of wineries, I’d like to explain the philosophy behind how we design our tours. Our goal is to create a balanced and authentic day, where travelers can experience not just wine, but the full essence of the region. This includes the cultural and historical heritage, the landscapes, the local cuisine, and the rhythm of life that makes this part of Italy so special.
In one day, we aim to provide a harmonious combination of experiences: a guided visit and tasting at a carefully selected winery, the discovery of traditional products from local artisans, and a relaxed lunch in Alba, where guests can savor the excellence of Piedmontese cuisine—especially during truffle season. We also include a stop at Grinzane Cavour Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which offers a deep sense of place and history that complements the wine experience beautifully.
Doing more than one winery in a single day would change the nature of the tour, turning it into a more rushed itinerary. Our intent is to avoid that—our groups are small for a reason, allowing everyone to truly enjoy the food, the wine, the people, and the landscape without feeling hurried.
The wines you tasted are among the most respected in the area, and while preferences are always subjective, we strive to offer a tasting that reflects both quality and value, consistent with the spirit of our tours.
For those seeking a deeper dive into the wine scene or who prefer to focus exclusively on tastings, we do organize private tours. These can be fully customized, allowing guests to choose specific wineries and shape the itinerary according to their interests and pace.
I truly appreciate your feedback—it helps us explain what we stand for and gives us the opportunity to improve while staying true to our vision of authentic, small-group travel.
Warm regards,
Stefano – Owner, Abroads Tours

What a wonderful day in the Piedmont region! The Monteribaldi Winery was fantastic, and Chiara was such a lovely and thoughtful guide. I only wish we’d had more time to explore the castle and the beautiful town of Alba. Overall, it was an incredible experience — I’d absolutely do this tour again!
Sylvie_S, Oct 2025
Beautiful scenery, interesting and fun wine tasting.I wished we had more time to visit the UNESCO castle in Alba

Amoto and Alessio were absolutely wonderful!! They made this trip so fun and informative. Best experience!!! Amoto is fabulous and I would book him again!!!
Joanne_M, Oct 2025
Very enjoyable wine tour. Our host, Oleg was an excellent guide- very knowledgeable about Piedmont region and the wines produced from it. Highly recommend this tour
Joseph_V, Oct 2025
Oleg was a great guide. He was very knowledgeable and clearly has worked to build connections to make this tour meaningful and pleasant. He was able to work in a last minute truffle tasting during the truffle season for us. It was great to be on a smaller tour instead of a large group tour without charm. I would highly recommend immens this tour, and the company for any other tours while in Milan.
Daniel_W, Oct 2025
Our guide, Monica was friendly and full of information about the region. The driver was Fabio who also did an excellent job. Monica is very clearly passionate about the trip and it made a huge difference.
The visit the the vineyard was good even for someone who doesn’t know anything about wine. The small group size also made the trip far more enjoyable.
John_M, Oct 2025
Tour was good. Lots packed into the day but overall worth it. Tour guide felt the need to express his liberal views a lot by bringing up Italian and American politics. Really took away from the positives of the day.
Response from Host, Nov 2025
Thank you for sharing your feedback and for joining the tour. I’m truly sorry if some of my comments during the day came across as political or made you feel uncomfortable—that was never my intention. My goal is always to provide context and depth when we talk about Italy’s history and current life.
When I mentioned topics such as the Italian Resistance and the anti-fascist movement, I did so as part of the historical narrative that has shaped modern Italy. Understanding those events helps explain not only our country’s past but also many aspects of our present society. I understand that this can sometimes touch on broader political ideas, but it was meant purely as historical insight, not personal opinion.
During the tour, it didn’t seem that others were bothered—in fact, many appeared interested and engaged in the discussion—but I truly respect that everyone experiences things differently. Your feedback is valuable, and I’ll take it into account to ensure that future explanations remain informative while keeping the focus firmly on the cultural and historical aspects of the places we visit.
Warm regards,
Stefano – Owner, Abroads Tours

This was an amazing experience that allowed me to experience the Italian countryside wine making region and even experience the truffle festival. Stefano was an amazing guide, with plenty of interesting historical information. And he had the foresight to take the necessary steps to ensure the trip went smoothly. One example was the truffle festival going on in Alba which made the city much busier than normal. The original plan was for each member of the tour to grab their own lunch, but knowing it would be really busy, Stefano booked a table for everyone at a nice restaurant to ensure we wouldn't have issues getting food on our stop.

My husband and I were looking for something local for a wine tasting in Italy, and this experience was absolutely perfect! Everything was thoughtfully organized from start to finish — we didn’t have to worry about a thing, just got on the bus and enjoyed! The attention to detail really stood out, and we met so many fantastic people along the way! It was fun, relaxed, and such a memorable way to explore Italian wine culture. Highly highly recommend!
Joyce_L, Oct 2025
Our tour date was changed to Oct 8 and we had Stefano as our guide. We had a great time truffle tasting at Alba and the wine tasting was amazing. We sat in the terrace overlooking the vineyard. Picturesque views! Thanks Stefano!

I joined the Barolo Wine Tasting, Alba, Small Group Tour from Milan with Stefano, and it was a great day trip. The experience was well-organized, relaxing, and full of beautiful scenery. Stefano was a great guide, knowledgeable and passionate about the region. The wine tasting and castle visit made for a perfect day in the Italian countryside.
James_M, Oct 2025
Worth the time and the price. Small group makes it much better than a large bus. Wine tasting was excellent.
Shauna_B, Oct 2025
This a personalized tour with a small group visiting beautiful countryside. Stefano and team entertained us while teaching us about the history of Italy and Piedmont followed by truffle tastings, lunch and wine tastings
Lynn_J, Sep 2025
Fun, informative and memorable! Steffano is an awesome guide - full of interesting facts about the history of Italy and the region. First time experience of tasting truffles and enjoyed the wine tasting immensely. Liked being with a small group rather than being herded around in a large group. Scenery was spectacular! Don't miss!
James_L, Sep 2025
Outstanding day trip to a less touristy extremely beautiful part of Italy. Stephano is engaging and generous with historical context about some of the reasons Italy is the way it is- the small group tour is emphatically superior to the larger tours. The geography surrounding the visited winery was unreal with spectacular beauty- not easily captured with even the best camera. The highlight for me was visiting Alba, tasting truffles in a local shop (absolute favorite), and enjoying a superlative lunch- truffle overload! The wine tasting was exceptional and the winery owner’s passion was quite palpable. The castle was a beautiful visual, but the history and interior was seemingly limited to wine making, and not as interesting as I had hoped.
Marileny_L, Sep 2025
Stefano was a great guide. He is very organized , communicative and fun. The small great experience was great. The small bus was great. Recommended 100%.

Thank you for sharing your impressions. Our Barolo Tour was created to let travelers discover the genuine side of Piedmont: hidden vineyards, authentic food, and wines like Barolo and Barbaresco. We avoid tourist traps and focus on excellence — because that’s what a true Italian experience should be.

Oleg was absolutely wonderful! I can’t even put into words how great he was: so hospitable, kind, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable. He made the entire experience feel personal and memorable.
One of my favorite moments was tasting black truffle straight from a farmer’s hand for the very first time such a special and authentic touch! I also loved exploring the charming towns we stopped in along the way. Every detail was thoughtfully planned, and Oleg made sure we enjoyed ourselves from start to finish.
Highly recommend this experience to anyone wanting to immerse themselves in Italian culture, food, and wine with a guide who truly cares.
Response from Host, Sep 2025
We appreciate your feedback! This tour is not just about tasting wine, but about living Piedmont. UNESCO castles, authentic products like truffles and hazelnuts, and a traditional lunch are part of the journey, ending with world-class wines in Montaribaldi. For us, it’s all about real Italian culture.

This is a must do. Bogus and Albert with abroad tours were excellent. They were kind, patient and knowledgeable. The vineyard was the very best.
Response from Host, Sep 2025
I really appreciate your kind words! Alba is one of my favorite towns to introduce to guests, and pairing it with a family-run winery nearby makes the day both intimate and meaningful. I’m happy the wines — especially the Barolo — and the vineyard views left such a strong impression. For me, that’s the essence of Piedmont in just a few hours.

We had an amazing day tasting wine with Monica! She was an excellent guide and gave us great recommendations while showing us around Alba. Going with a small group is absolutely worth it, even with a full van it was only 18 people. The private tour and wine tasting was a wonderful experience and Barolo is exactly what you picture when you think of Italian wine country. The van seats were very comfortable and the AC very welcome as the day got hotter. We would absolutely book with Abroad tours again!
Response from Host, Sep 2025
Thank you for such a kind and detailed review! Monica will be thrilled to know her knowledge and recommendations made your day special. Traveling in a small group allows for comfort and a more personal touch, while still offering the full experience of Alba and Barolo. From the private tasting to the views of Italian wine country, this is exactly the authentic experience we aim to deliver.
