When looking at what to do in Granada, there is really one option you HAVE to do. Visit The Alhambra and the palaces within. Ahmed was our tour guide and gave a very interesting and educational tour! The ingenuity and architectural design was beyond amazing! You definitely need to see it with your own eyes! Washington Irving visited in the 1800s and it was because of his book about Alhambra that they started to restore it and the palaces. It became a UNESCO site in 1984 as well as the old town built outside the Alhambra walls but within the outerwalls. People still live in this area the houses from the 14th to 16th century! Also now a UNESCO site!

Our tour of the Alhambra, including the Nasrid Palaces and the Generalife, with our guide Abubakr was absolutely outstanding and the clear highlight of our visit to Granada.
Abubakr is a true history expert with deep knowledge of Islamic culture and Arabic. He even read inscriptions directly from the palace walls in three different calligraphic styles, bringing the Alhambra vividly to life. His explanations beautifully connected architecture, gardens, water, and symbolism into a coherent whole, delivered with depth, clarity, and a sharp sense of humor.

Every word he shared carried purpose and reverence. Abu Bakr revealed the Alhambra’s hidden soul — details, symbols, and meanings that no book or plaque could ever express. One thing to note. The complex is very, very large, with some hills, some steps, and uneven surfaces. It’s easy enough to manage but something to keep in mind. The Alhambra is magnificent, the ingenuity of the architects is astounding and, in our opinion, a must-see experience. Thank you Lara!!

Our pivate guide, Abubaker was very knowledgable. He gave us a lesson in history and life of the sultans in Alhambra. He did not talk much about the christian kings and what followed after they came to Granada. It rained that day, so it was difficult to see and fully enjoy the place.
