It was an exposure to the beauty outside Funchal…seaside villages, forested mountainsides, dramatic cliffs, and swimming pools created by lava flows. Our tour guide Ricardo was entertaining, informative, and accommodating. Truly one of the best guides we have ever had.
Ricardo was fantastic. He is very knowledgeable and also very considerate. We learned many things about Madeira’s culture and history. We had many stops on our tour and we were never rushed. Highly recommend this tour.
Ricardo was our guide. Prompt pick up at hotel, comfortable and clean car, tour can adapt to your schedule and preferences.
This was great. Our guide was so knowledgeable about the island, took time where we needed it and was super flexible and helpful. This tour was a great way to see the island and get acclimated. Totally recommend it.
We had three separate full day tours with Diogo and Ricardo who are brothers. They tailored our tours to meet our wishes. We wanted to have plenty of time to walk and experience the beauty of Madeira at our own pace. We wanted lunch in family-owned restaurants and no gift shops.
They exceeded our expectations in every way. It was great to have a professional driver. Many of the secondary roads are steep, narrow and winding. It was very relaxing to sit back and enjoy the scenery while being chauffeured around. Another advantage of being in a small van was that we could get into places the buses couldn’t.
All-in-all we could not think of a nicer way to experience the beauty of Madeira.

Our tour guide Diogo was amazing. We highly recommend this tour and asking for him. He provided us with a lot of information on the island of Madeira and Portugal. The areas that he took us to were beautiful. He was so easy to converse with.
We did 6 hour tour off our cruise ship. The minibus was very comfortable. Diogo was a brilliant guide- he explained at the start the route we would be taking, we stopped at about 6 beautiful places, he gave us plenty of time at each. He gave us a running commentary of the island as he drove and slowed down to show us the vegetation, waterfalls and places of interest. Would highly recommend if you have limited time and ask for Diogo!!

Absolutely the best experience. Diogo has an amazing local knowledge and the taxi was so clean. The weather was changeable and he was able to amend the tour to ensure we saw everything but in a different order. He had great recommendations for things to eat. Everywhere we went there was the chance for a toilet break if needed and the whole day felt very chilled and relaxed.
The tour was a great experience. The locations, pace and timing were ideal, giving us a real insight into the West of Madeira. Diago was a great guide and driver, taking lots of care on the challenging roads and making the route very relaxing. He also gave us a great insiders view of the island. We would recommend this trip for anyone.
We really enjoyed our tour of Madeira, and our guide Sergio was extremely knowledgeable and fun. He knew when the big tour buses were going to go to the spots we were also going to, and timed it so we'd miss most of the big crowds. His van was very clean and well maintained, and with all the steep hills and windy roads, we were happy the brakes worked well! Sergio was happy to answer all our questions, and we learned not only about where we toured, but about how the people lived and worked in Madeira. We were lucky with the weather, which was a nice bonus for our day.
Everything was amazing!
Our guide Ricardo waited for us outside with a sign and we found each other properly. We had his contact number and wrote him the we would be a little late and it was no problem at all.
The drive through the island was beautiful and in our pace. We had enough time to see everything we wanted and even to relax a little bit.

I booked this experience very last minute (the morning of), and Tiago couldn’t have been a better fit for a driver. He was knowledgeable- English better than he gave himself credit for! - and he ensured I got to see all of the sights with plenty of time at each. I had such an enjoyable time on this day. Perfect for a solo traveler without a car, and a great way to see the sights of Madeira. Would highly recommend

This was a fascinating tour of the island. Diogo was very knowledgeable and able to enrich our tour by explaining everything we saw at each stage of the day in excellent English. The car was very comfortable and exceptionally clean. It would have been very difficult to see so much in one day if we had hired a car instead. Diogo gave us plenty of time at each stop, including a longer stop for lunch, which we really enjoyed! We appreciated having a private tour because Diogo was able to tell us so much about every place along the route and gave us insights into the culture and history of the island. We can recommend this tour to anyone who wants to experience Madeira without the challenge of driving on difficult mountain roads!
Best shore excursion we have done and we have done a few. Tiago was great we couldn’t ask for a better guide, he took us to more places than we thought we’d go. Had much better experience having a private tour rather than the others all squeezed up in a 4x4. Tiago was patient he never rushed us at any stop and went out of his way to pull over and show us the all different plants on island very knowledgeable.

Great experience, driver arrived on time and easy to find. Our driver and guide, Manuel was very knowledgeable and fluent in English. He was able to get to places without problems, despite other big tourists busses that were around us. I wish I knew about the Porto Moniz pool (first) as an option instead of spending 1 hour and 30minutes eating at a restaurant. An idea suggestion is for Driver/Guide to talk more about the pool and then show us restaurants. Our driver allowed us to spend extra time in downtown Funchal since we have extra time.
Diogo was phenomenal! We changed our destination to the east side rather than the west side the day of our trip because we realized that we had already seen may of the parts on the west side. Diogo was flexible and friendly and willing to do whatever it took to have us enjoy our day together. This was no problem for him at all! He truly made the day all about what we wanted. His driving was excellent- we ALWAYS felt safe- He took us to wonderful areas and explained so many specifics along the way which made the whole day that much more magical and our connection to the island that much more special. He truly was such a joy and was so easy and comfortable to be with for the day. Diogo is a treasure. You will be so happy that you booked with him!!!!! Trust me- I have done LOTS of tours- Diogo is a STANDOUT!!!!!!
Emannuel was an exceptional guide. He spoke perfect English and was very informative. Especially loved the Glass Walkway and the pools. Scenery was spectacular! Couldn't have asked for a more perfect day.
Diogo was very friendly and knowledgeable and made us feel very comfortable. He took us to all the best spots and recommended what to do and where to go at each place. We had as much as we wanted to look round. Plenty of photo opportunities and Diogo answered all our questions and more. Best way to see the island. Highly recommend.

Very disappointing day in Madeira. When we booked this tour I was under the impression it was a guided tour of the west side of the island. In fact it was only a taxi cab driving us from point to point with no guided tour. When we would reach a location the driver would state the name and tell us to explore on our own and that he would be waiting for us at the drop off location. No explanations, descriptions, background or history was provided. It became apparent the driver was not a tour guide and only a driver.
Since it was a full day tour I asked about the options for lunch. He became quite flustered and was unable to offer any suggestions. We ended not having lunch.
If you are only looking for a cab ride around the island, this tour would expensive but acceptable, however if you are looking for a guided tour you will be very disappointed.
Before writing this review, I reviewed the details of the tour and realized several of the destinations listed were skipped including Porto Moniz Natural Swimming Pool, the town of Seixal and Sao Vicente. Make sure if you are on this tour that the driver does not skip these stops since they are the "highlights" of the trip.

Loved this tour, we really felt the local experience. Saw just enough “tourist” sites mixed in with local life scenes, which was what we requested. Thank you!!!
We had an excellent day with our guide Rodrigo. He was very accommodating and knowledgeable. He didn’t rush us and gave us ample time to see the sights, have lunch etc. The van was comfortable and we felt safe with his driving. We did several tours while in Madeira and this was one of our favorite.
Must do in Medeira. Our guide Tiogo was excellent. We enjoyed it very much despite the van being older.
It was great to see the dramatic landscapes, vineyards and villages. Diogo is the perfect guide, knowledgeable and flexible.
