These are private tours with a single pick-up stop, and the adventure begins as soon as we meet. Important: pick-ups outside Funchal, Santa Cruz, and Câmara de Lobos incur a small additional fee. I drive a car branded with the Go Local Madeira logo and usually pick up guests at their door. For on-shore tours, I’ll meet you at the cruise ship dock and provide clear, easy-to-follow instructions to ensure a smooth and stress-free meeting. I have two fully restored all-terrain vehicles for your comfort and safety: Nissan Patrol (1993) – 5 seats: 1 facing forward, 4 in the back facing sideways (60 cm / 23 inches each), with a panoramic/convertible roof for amazing views. Land Rover Discovery TDI (1996) – 4 seats facing forward, perfect for a comfortable ride. Vehicles are assigned depending on availability, maintenance, or weather conditions, with prior notice given to guests.

Val takes you to all the places you don't get to see on a typical tour- you get to see the hidden gems that only the locals know about! My son and I had an absolute blast! We learned a ton about Madeira and saw some spectacular sights. Highly recommend this tour!!
We can not rate this trip high enough - Val was extremely knowledgeable, we had a full on day, visiting more places than you could imagine, without it feeling rushed. Val adapted his suggested itinerary due to weather & our interests. We all had great fun & would thoroughly recommend. At the end of the day, he gave us some top tips for what to do/go for the rest of our holiday. I wouldn’t hesitate at booking this again if we return.

Get ready to see a lot of Madeira in a personal customizable tour in a 4 X 4. Our driver, Wilson, showed us optional routes and sites on the map and then made suggestions based on our comments and interests. He knows great lookouts that are pretty private. We had great views, waterfalls, rain forest, towns, quaint roads and he took us to an amazing local place for a poncha at the end of the day before whisking us right to the ship. A great day.
Val was incredibly knowledgeable and very passionate about providing the ultimate tour experience possiable of his island home. He was born and raised in Madeira and knows the island inside and out. His 4wd vehicle will take you to places and experience views that other tours cannot do. He customized the tour according to what we wanted to see and even planned visits around the weather. If you want to experience Maderia through the eyes of a "local", who has a passion for sharing his island home with you, then Val is your man. We hired him for 2 full days and came away 110% satisfied. Highly recommended.

Val is very informative about everything about Madeira and takes you to places away from every other tourist so it is a very personal tour.
What an amazing day! This was our favourite day of our trip to Madeira. Upon meeting with us, we told Val what we were interested in seeing and he catered the day to our interests. Our day was full of breathtaking views, short hikes, adventures, a few surprises, and some stops along the way that we would have never found on our own. Val was very personable, knowledgeable and accommodating throughout the full day tour. If we could give this more than a five star rating we would!
I don’t know where to begin! This all-day tour IS WONDERFUL! Val, our tour guide was beyond, beyond exceptional. He explained in great detail the history of the island and its importance in World History. Val took us to Poncha Bars and a delightful place for lunch. We were able to walk around a few small villages to look in the stores or get something to drink. We met many local residents and we were immersed in the ‘traditional’ side of Madeira, far away from our resort hotel. Lastly, the highlights of the tour were the countless beautiful views that we encountered around every turn. We went to the top of Pico de Arieiro (one of the highest points on the island) where the views were unimaginable. Thank you Val for everything!
This tour shows you everything most tourist companies can't. Secret spots that are not filled with tourists, but all amazing to see and experience. Our guide was an expert about Maderia and it's history. He was a pleasure to spend the day with. I can't recommend this tour enough.
Val was amazing! He took us to the eastern side of the island and showed us the best local and tourist gems. The trip had fun off-roading and shortcuts, local food and drinks, sightseeing, and even some hiking. He was very flexible with what we wanted as a family and went above and beyond to accommodate our every need. Highly recommend this tour!

Highly recommend this private tour!!! Val is like an encyclopedia - he is full of knowledge re the true history of Portugal and many more interesting facts. He took us to places where tourists were nil or limited, allowing us to truly experience the beautiful island of Madeira.

I've been on a lot of tours in a lot of places (Maui, Banff, Iceland, etc) and been fortunate enough that a lot of them have been fantastic. And yet, this tour with Val was something extra special.
From going out of his way to ensure we get to try out Ponchas at Bar O Vizinho (absolutely fantastic!) despite not having any Euros to an incredible lunch at Cantin De Serra catered specifically to us as vegetarians with yet another stop for a delicious glass of Ginza, Val really went all out on ensuring we had an absolute gala of a trip.
This was the only tour we did on our short 2 night stay in Madeira and yet there was nothing more I could have possibly asked for from this tour.
We highly recommend booking with Val and letting him plan the tour itinerary for you. You will not be disappointed!

Thank you Val for an amazing day on the east side of Madeira. We went on several excursions while in Funchal but this was by far the absolute best. Val was an exceptional guide tailoring our day and our destinations anround else we had planned for the week. He was exceptional at answering our questions, deciphering our areas of interest and then guiding us to what we wanted to see and learn. Our day with Val was the highlight of our time in Madeira. Awesome day trip with Val…very accommodating and tailored to our family including a six year old. Val was very knowledgeable and extremely understanding. He saw our needs especially with a 6 year old passenger and was prepared to change the itinerary at any point.
We had the most fantastic time on this tour. Going into it, we didn’t know what to really expect but we got to see and experience some stunning parts of the island that we wouldn’t have if we’d gone with a more commercial tour. We were able to really switch off from the stresses of every day life and enjoy the day without being surrounded by other tourists. My husband said this is the best thing we have done in a long time! The guide was also so lovely, personable, and extremely knowledgable. Would highly recommend this to anyone visiting Madeira, even if it’s not your first time there. A truly unique way to explore the island and its charms.
We had such a terrific tour of the island with Valdemar. It was like driving around the island with an old friend. He took us to places we probably would not have seen otherwise and away from all the other tourists. Valdemar shared so much information with us on everything. It was incredible! He is very kind and he loves what he does! We wouldn't hesitate to hire him again!
We decided to book a private tour to see the island, and this did not disappoint! Val was brilliant, taking us to many different spots North and West of the island. We experienced so many things in one day! To name a few, we tried local poncha, dipped our feet in the sea at Seixal beach, off roading on small mountain roads and ended the day trying to conquer my fear of heights at Cabo Girão! Spending the last day of my 20s with Val exploring Madeira was the best way to end it, and will be an experience I’ll never forget! I would highly recommend anyone booking this tour!

Val’s tour was exceptional. We saw a variety of landscapes and learned a lot about Madeira’s history and sites. Val’s knowledge of the island is vast, ranging from the history of Madeira wine to vegetation to where to find the best poncha on the island. We can’t wait to come back to this beautiful island and see more of what it has to offer!
This trip was excellent. Vald has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the history and flora and fauna of Madeira. We were asked what we wanted to see. Except for Christ the King statue we had open minds about our tour and we took Vlad’s advice on where to visit. The open topped 4x4 was great fun - standing up to enjoy the panoramic views and going off road. We had a wonderful day and fell in love with Madeira.
Val took our family, including 2 parents in their 90's, on a memorable jaunt through the stunning island of Madeira. It was such a beautiful day, and Val made it really shine by showing us parts of the island that typical tour buses could never access. We tasted some interesting local foods and ciders, visited some spectacular view points, and also got to purchase some local Madeira wine. Val could not have been nicer and more accommodating to my parents, which we greatly appreciated. He was born and raised on the island and speaks great English. I highly recommend this tour, which we took instead of a more expensive, non-private tour offered by our cruise line.
Sensational day trip is the only way to describe our jeep tour with Val. He is a wonderful guide, knowledgeable on the history of Madeira, the flora and fauna and incredible driver on the steepest and narrowest roads I have ever seen. He was able to accommodate my families very differing needs as included my 83 elderly mother and 2 preteen kids so we all had a wonderful day exploring Madeira. We offered some suggestions on what we hoped to do but left it up to Val to decide where we went and the tour was a total surprise. He covered it all and was a pleasure to spend the day with him. If you get the opportunity you will not regret your choice.
