What a wonderful day! Joao was a first-rate guide. He ensured we had a delightful tour of the most beautiful locations on the East side of Madeira. We very much enjoyed each and every aspect of the trip. He was prompt, helpful, and always very polite. We had an awesome day with João/John. Great personality with lovely stories about the island. We did the west side of the island and asked for mountains, nature and waterfalls. João delivered with an epic off road ride through the old mountain roads with amazing views. We managed to escape most of the mass tourism. The lunch recommendation was amazing with the best scabbard fish and espetada meat we have eaten our full time in Madeira. It is a long day for your driver as well so ensure enough breaks for them to rest as well. We fully recommend this tour! Thank you João!

This was a great day. John picked us up at our condo rental and spent the first 15 to 30 minutes discussing what we had done on Madeira to that point and what we wanted to still see. It was totally customizable. He was very patient at all of our stops and seemed to know every other tour guide that we came across through the day. He was very personable and spoke great english.

We lovef our day with John/ João . He answered questions before we asked them. We were very much interested in history and why things were the way they are now. He had all the answers. He took us to beautiful out of the way spots, avoided crowds, hooked us up with an excellent lunch with a view. We could not have asked for a better day.. Thank you again John.

Our tour guide was João (John) and he was perfect. So full of life and good cheer. He asked if there was anything we wanted to do at the start and then took us round the north and west up some 45% incline roads and the old back roads which was great fun. He taught us so much about the island. Totally enjoyed the experience and it was really all thanks to him. Thanks so much João. Keep smiling and enjoying ponchas 😄

This tour was absolutely fantastic. We were in Madeira for a one day port stop. We had wanted to do a 4WD tour and booked this tour through Viator. The reviews were great but even those didn’t prepare us for the magic of this island. My wife and I had a private tour. Our guide Miguel owns a small fleet of 4WD vehicles and we were lucky enough to have him as our guide. His knowledge and love of this little island were contagious. It’s obvious that he loves what he is doing.
We toured the islands west and north shores. We drove off the beaten path several times but never felt unsafe with Miguel at the wheel. He took us to hills above the clouds and then had lunch in the village of Porto Moniz. After lunch we drove along the north shore with cliffs and waterfalls that reminded me of Kauai.
I can’t say enough about how much we enjoyed this tour. I would give it six stars if I could.

This Jeep tour was absolutely incredible — a must for anyone visiting Madeira! Our guide, John, was outstanding. Having grown up on the island, his deep knowledge and love for Madeira really showed throughout the day. He gave us a unique, personal experience that went far beyond the typical tourist routes. Even at the popular spots like Fanal Forest, he took us to hidden local viewpoints that were far less crowded and offered even better views.
If you’re looking for an unforgettable way to explore the island and learn about its history, nature, and culture, this is the tour to book. Highly, highly recommend!

Amazing experience - definitely a highlight of our trip! Our driver, Miguel, was fantastic. We weren’t sure exactly what we wanted to do, so we just told him where we’d been so far, and he took it from there, putting together a great itinerary highlighting the most scenic spots on the west and north side of the island while taking us down some back/off-road parts as well. Only regret is not booking a two day version as there’s so much to see! Would definitely recommend!

John was our tour guide. We went around the western part of the island including Porto Moniz and Seixal. What an incredible day - one of the best of our lives. Madeira is incredible and is the most beautiful place I've ever been and I never want to go anywhere else on holiday. Incredible experience. This was our favorite tour ever. John was fantastic and we felt very safe at all times. The tour had a good balance of main roads, off roads, beautiful viewpoints and great information. To top it all, since it was my birthday, Jonh made a reservation for us for lunch at a delicious restaurant with a beautiful views. Food and service e were excellent. We highly recommend this tour. You will not regret it.

An exceptional experience. I highly recommend doing this tour. Especially privately. We had the 4 x 4 to ourselves. John was our guide. He is very passionate about the island. He looked after us very well. He took us to two fabulous food locations. We started the tour at 9am and finished around 4.30ish pm. We saw so much!

This is a super fun day of adventure. We covered the entire part of the island that we had not seen when we planned it with John. The sights you see are amazing, and our tour guide John has the best insight for stops and pushing you out of your comfort zone to stand in the car on old roads. Got amazing pictures and had a blast. Would recommend for families with children on the older side!! Anyway we absolutely loved it and Madeira is a magical island.

A great amount of stops and scenery! A good itinerary. Please know it’s a bumpy ride. Our tour guide was not very informative so we were disappointed in that regard.
