Walk across the plaza to the Basilica di Santa Croce, which was designed by Arnolfo di Cambio. Inside, see frescoes by Giotto that decorate the Bardi and Peruzzi Chapels, along with the Pazzi Chapels and more. Hear detailed commentary about Michelangelo, who is one of the Italian masters buried at Santa Croce. (The church may be substituted by the Accademia Gallery or Medici Chapels based on availability)

After touring the chapel, continue to the Casa Buonarroti, a museum dedicated to Michelangelo's life. See famous pieces by the artist when he was young, such as 'Madonna of the Steps' and 'Battle of the Centaurs.' As a big Michelangelo fan this tour was high on my bucket list. As a cherry on the cake our guide was just as big a fan as me so we interacted on our love for this great son of Florence. Walking in his house gave a special feeling and seeing the works he did as a young man. We ended the tour at the Santa Croce were we emerged ourselves in the stories of the lives of a few of the great citizens of Florence and the art and history of both the church and the city.

Going one on one with my guide gave me an opportunity to feel his passion for the subject. I learned much about the Medici dynasty and how Michaelangelo is such an important part of Florence’s history. We spent time in the magnificent basilica learning about the important people who are interned there. And finally visited Michaelangelo’s house which also was full of history. My guide was friendly and highly knowledgeable. What more could I say! Molto bene!
