I try to take a cooking class when I am visiting a new country. I am interested in learning to cook cuisine from the region. Of the several cooking classes I have taken, this class was without a doubt the best one. Betty, class instructor, was excellent. She was easy to understand and explained the techniques well. The meal we prepared was Creamy Potato Soup, Chicken Paprikas with Spaetzle and Palacsinta. Betty's instruction for preparing the food was great. I leaned many things that I will easily transfer to other items I will cook when I get home. Besides the food, Betty shared some of the history and culture of food in Hungary. This trip, I visited four countries and can sincerely say, the best meal I had was one I helped prepare myself! Also to note, once my class was booked the Chefparade folks were really good at communicating. I got lost and had to call the school and they stayed with me until I found my way. Betty was out on the street ready to greet me. Also to note the school is set up really well. I am so very pleased with this experience.

We booked the market tour and cooking class. Brigi was very informative and patient with us. Food and wine was delicious and got to bring back extra strudel. Would definitely book again.

The cooking class was great! Signed up and paid for the market tour but there was no communication about that part. I don’t think the cooking place even knew that was part of it. So don’t know if it was a Viator mistake or what. But we finally made it to the class and we were the only ones in the class so it was a great private experience. The chef was awesome! Really enjoyed the class but feel we over payed since we didn’t get the market tour.

Great opportunity to learn about Hungarian recipes and how to prepare them as well as Hungarian traditions. Our chef instructor was fantastic! We discussed food and Hungarian life while cooking, dining and tasting Hungarian beverages. It was a perfect way to end our Budapest adventure before returning home.
Response from Host, Sep 2025
Thank you very much for your kind words. I am glad that we were able to give you fond memories through Hungarian traditions, food, and hospitality :) I hope to see you again in Budapest next time.

We had the best time on a market tour and cooking class with our chef instructor Vesna. We were going to be making potato soup, Chicken Paprikas and apple strudel. We met at the main Market in Budapest and Vesna went right to work educating us on the local produce, cheese, meats, pastries and Paprikas. We sampled a lot of these foods and were shown why each brand or variety was better than others. You could smell the difference in Hungarian peppers over USA green peppers. Many shops in the market sell the same meats, cheeses and pastries, but we got to taste the difference in their quality and learn which shops were worth spending your money in. My wife and I highly recommend adding the market place tour to your cooking class.
The cooking class was extremely organized and we did all the prep and cooking under the watchful eye of Vesna our chef instructor. It took an hour to cook the chicken paprikas, constantly turning the chicken and stirring the sauce to prevent both from overcooking. We learned the authentic way to make Chicken Paprikas and I don’t believe most restaurants would spend the time to make this dish correctly. We used only fresh ingredients. We made a vegetable stock for the soup, prepared and diced all the vegetables. Made homemade Spaetzel and homemade apple strudel. We also tasted local Hungarian wines as we cooked our lunch. We loved everything we cooked and so glad we took this cooking class. We learned so much and had a great time. P.S. I am a retired chef of 42 years in food service and I learned a few new tricks from Vesna.

Very kind Elaine,
Probably the kindest and most honest and substantial review of my career. So grateful for your beautiful description.
I'm glad you had a good morning and all the moments that gave you beautiful memories of our little country, of cooking school, of Vesna, and of Hungarian gastronomy.
I think guests like you, make it worth working, planning, and improving every day.
Thank you also for the kind words on behalf of Vesna, she will be very happy to have created such fond memories.

Let me start with Vesna was the BEST! We met her at the market for great information and a tour of local foods. The ChefParade cooking school was a fantastic location and very professional. We had so much fun and the goulash, chicken paprikash, and apple strudel we made were the best food we had during our entire trip!! We had a great time and left with recipes and memories that will never be forgotten!!
Response from Host, Sep 2024
Dear David,
Vesna is a diamond, she loves cooking and sharing with her guests all the delights of Hungarian gastronomy and culture.
She puts her heart and soul into the lesson. I understand that guests love to spend time with her.
This makes her enjoy the class, as well, which creates a pleasant dynamic in the cooking school:)
Thanks again for coming to us and spending a morning with the Hungarian flavors.

Brigitte our chef was so lovely and helpful! I didn’t realise it was more of a group thing but we got our own copies of the recipes to take home and we all sat down together to share the meals everyone prepared. It was a really casual cooking class which felt more relaxed and fun.
Response from Host, Jan 2024
Dear Grace,
I am very happy you liked the class ( with goulash and chicken paprikash) and thank you for your kind words. :)

The tour of the Central Market in Budapest was fantastic. Learned so much and saw everything imaginable to eat or drink!
Sylvia was a great guide and an even more amazing I structured for our cooking class. We loved the small class size and the hands on cooking. All the food we prepared was delicious and served with beer/wine. We laughed, learned and enjoyed the entire cooking class experience.
Response from Host, Jan 2024
Thanks a lot, Lindsay! I hope you will show your new recipes to your friends and family as well:)

I booked the Cooking Class with optional Market Tour. The market tour was rushed with no time to purchase anything. The guide spent a considerable amount of time telling us what was not good to purchase in the market. After the group got into two taxis we rode 20 minutes to the location of the class. Upon arrival the guide told us only two in the group purchased the deluxe tour that included transportation back to the start point, a cook book and apron. Those who purchased on Viator had the basic tour, no transportation back to the center of the city. The description of this tour says the end point is the start point. I was concerned during the entire class how I would get back. This was resolved by the end of the class by having us all take one taxi back. Two members of our group sat in pop up seats in the baggage area of the taxi.
The class was rushed and we each prepared a portion of the recipe and cooked everything for the whole class in two large pots. The vendor supplied the wrong cut of chicken (boneless, skinless) which was not what the recipe called for. The guide said we could prepare the dish as the recipe shows anytime but we would change the dish promising it would be much better with the changes. At the end we scarfed down our meal in a rush to vacate the room for the next class. In the lobby we were served our after dinner digest of Unicum. The wait for the cab was over 20 minutes to get back.

Dear Brett,
First of all, I apologize for the late reply. The reason for this is that I was very surprised when I read your review and first I wanted to investigate what might have happened .
I don't recall ever having received such a sad review and I couldn't imagine what could be the reason for the lack of any communication between you and the Chef.
You spent 1+4 hours ( shopping+cooking) together and she had no idea you felt so uncomfortable :(
I am very sorry to hear this, because our Chefs have enough freedom to modify the course flow and to suit it to the needs of the guests.
I'm so sorry you couldn't do shopping at the market. Even the time is limited, but we always find a little time to help guests make small purchases.
If you need more, we encourage you to come back and take the time to enjoy the beauty of shopping there. We also regret that the Chef unnecessarily warned you not to buy certain goods at the market. I asked her to shorten that.
Thank you to call my attention to following: You are absolutely right that it may have been confusing that other people who booked the class through other sales channels had booked premium package as an extra. Which means they paid extra for an apron, book and taxi, (*which was an option to buy all of this on the spot, too) . As the tour basically does not include these extras, such as a taxi to the hotel, our guest usually asked us to call them a taxi to take them back to the hotel or anywhere in the city, paying with a card to the driver. Glad it was arranged and you got complementary ride back to the market. ( I have been trying for weeks to get Viator to correct this misleading information to change it, but it doesnt work yet:( ,so I have to inform all our guests in advance when they book their tour.)
I am also happy the Chef tried to feel you better, and served you some Unicum, which is not part of the program, but really sad that you had to have it in the "lobby".
I am terrible sorry for all of your discomfort. I would be happy to send you a copy of our nice Hungarian Classics cookbook, hoping to make your memories a little bit nicer this way.
Thanks again for sharing your opinions and experiences, we will use them to make our class better.

We were visiting Budapest and fell in love with Goulash soup so we wanted to take a cooking lesson at Chef Parade. We arrived early and met Bernadet who was very patient and taught us all the tips to prepare: goulash, porkolt and apple strudel. We had a great time and we ate everything we made.
we had a lot of fun and purchased there the cooking book, sweet paprika and some condiments needed to cook goulash and porkolt when we’re back home.
Response from Host, Oct 2023
Dear Lulu.
It was a pleasure for us to teach you some hungarian dishes and words :)
We loved your enthusiasm, stay always so positive!
Hope to see you next time in Budapest.

Amazing day. Vesna was full of knowledge. We had a lovely tour of the market. Just under an hour was the perfect amount of time to get an overview and learn which products are of the best quality. The Cooking School was well equipped. The class was fun and informative. There were a few food surprises as well. Highly recommend.
