Itinerary
Start your walking tour next to Hackescher Markt train station in East Berlin. Your guide begins your tour by setting the scene: how did the U.S. and the USSR fall into a Cold War? How was Berlin caught in the middle of everything? How did military tensions in Berlin split into two?
Your guide takes you to the Berlin Wall memorial, too see a section of the Wall preserved in its original state, as well as a birds-eye view of the ‘Death Strip,’ where East Germany’s shoot-to-kill orders were carried out on would-be escapees.
Next, travel to the north of Berlin to Bornholmer Strasse, where the Wall came down on November 9, 1989. Here, your guide explains the unlikely tale of how one East German politician’s mistake brought down the Berlin Wall.
Continue deeper into East Berlin. Visit the headquarters of East Germany’s terrifying secret police, the Stasi, and learn how the East German state increasingly spied upon its own people, creating a system of complete government control over its citizens. Finish your walking tour at Alexanderplatz, the site of the iconic TV tower in the heart of the former East German capital.

This is a must-do tour if you are visiting Berlin. We thought we knew a lot, but we learned so much more at the Berlin Wall Memorial tour. Quincy was extremely knowledgeable and ready to answer any questions.

We had a very nice and well informed lady guide, Anastasia, that made our tour really enjoyable. It was a touching and emotional travel back in dark times, when Berlin was splited in two. Anastasia was able to open that door and present us the less known side of the drama berliners went through some decades back.
This is a tour you should not miss if you travel to Berlin. Becaus it talks about an unique memorial. The Berlin Wall.
The overall impresion after this visit? Lets not forget our recent history and never allow it to happen again.

Such an interesting tour - Ariel was excellent, his knowledge was huge and really engaging way of sharing, including jokes as well. A tour is the only way to really understand some of the history of Berlin.

I just can’t say enough about how much I enjoyed my tour. It made me wish I’d booked one longer than two hours. Our guide Dylan was exceptional. He is so well versed in German history that not only was the tour fantastic, but he was able to successfully answer every question raised by the group. Everything was delivered in a conversational manner, with a real grounded feel to his presentation. Honestly, if all walking tours were like this, I’d do them in NYC where I live. Dylan also took time to suggest other places and restaurants to visit in Berlin, even ideas like making sure to catch the sunset in a nearby park. This tour was the best part of my time in Berlin.

Although the tour was interesting, Dylan did not do a good job as a guide. He did not communicate plans well at all. When he took the few members of the group who did not have tickets for the train to purchase them, he left everyone else on their own and just boarded the train. Could have been a dangerous situation as we rushed to board the train as the doors were closing.

This tour, led by Tom, was absolutely excellent!! He did an impressive job of providing the “big picture” of events surrounding the Wall along with selected individual stories that made it all seem real. For me, it was the perfect tour length and amount of information. Highly recommended!!

The guide Georgia was very knowledgeable and engaging. Would recommend this tour to anyone interested in the history of the wall

Jimmy, our guide, was fantastic. He pointed out lots of interesting things during the tour that we would not have noticed otherwise. 2 hours flew by- would absolutely recommend to anyone travelling to Berlin and wanting to know more about its most significant historical event!

I really enjoyed the tour. A great explanation of the effect of the wall and the Cold War on Berlin and a lovely walk as well.
Stephen_C, Sep 2024
Interesting detail about the origins of the wall, the segmentation of Germany and Berlin, and the eventual fall.
Renuka_R, Sep 2024
The walk between the front and back Walls and the many plans of escape. Some succeeded and some did not. To experience all this were it actually happened was very moving

A very interesting tour. Stephen was very informative. He knew the facts and he also knew facts about the people involved.
Katherine_R, Apr 2024
Learning how people managed to get to the west and how the GDR bricked up houses etc to prevent escapes.

Campbell was amazing on this tour - he explains history with ease and is very engaging to listen to. He showed us a ghost station, the Berlin Wall and the surrounding area and memorial and the death strip. Campbell brings history to life and is the best tour guide. You will not be disappointed with this tour. It was amazing value for money. We were in a small group of around 10 people.

The tour with guide Jasper was perfect. Jasper is a very good storyteller and hè took his time to tell and answer questions. The locations where we stood still are interesting and Jasper knew a lot about it. After all a perfect trip to know more about Berlin.

Fantastic experience, would highly recommend. Nathan came across very engaging, helping us to understand some of the history and the impact it still has today. You could tell that this was a passion for him but he explained it really well

Ana_D, May 2023
Very informative for an international group. Well explained with emphasis on the human side of the story
Pamela_C, May 2023
Our Guide Tom told interesting stories about the effects of the split between east and West Berlin after WW2. Highly recommend the tour.
Sophia_L, Feb 2023
Heidi was an excellent tour guide. We really enjoyed the tour and gained a lot of new information, as well as tips on what we can do next time we’re in Berlin. My only criticism is that 2 hours didn’t seem long enough to cover everything.
Jennifer_V, Nov 2022
Tobi our guide was super knowledgeable and gave us great first hand insights. I could have listened to him for hours!
Lisa_A, Oct 2022
Pip was an excellent guide. We enjoyed hearing about the experiences of individuals in East Berlin. Pip answered our questions very well and made sure we were all looked after.
David_B, Sep 2022
My personal guide Pip was excellent. She was well spoken, knowledgeable and informative.
All the things you would hope to expect from a personal guide… But, Above and beyond Pip was also cheerful and had a real zest for her job… You could tell she really enjoyed doing what she was doing.
Thank you

Susan was a terrific guide. She helped us understand how the architecture fits into the city, from medieval times to WWII to the Cold War to today.

We accidentally missed this tour as we got lost in the transit system and were a few minutes late. However, the same organization offered a Berlin City Walking tour and we took that instead for the same price. It was amazing and the guide was fantastic. It was a long tour however and we walked about 15 kms. The guide was incredibly knowledgeable about history, politics, art, and culture and made sure to check in with people along the way because it was quite warm and the sun was very strong. I would highly recommend doing any kind of tour with this company as the staff were great, friendly and well versed in the topic.
