- This is a self-guided driving tour. Transportation and a driver are not included, so you’ll need your own vehicle or rental car.
- The tour has three designated starting areas: central Sedona, north of Sedona for travelers arriving from Flagstaff, and south of Sedona for travelers arriving from Camp Verde. Choose the starting point that best fits your route in the Shaka Guide app.
- Download the Shaka Guide app after booking and use the redemption code provided in your confirmation to access your tour.
- Download the tour over strong Wi-Fi before you begin. Once downloaded, the audio and map work offline, and GPS-triggered narration plays automatically as you drive.
- The itinerary is flexible. Stops and hikes are recommendations, not requirements. Skip stops, stay longer at places that interest you, or customize the route based on traffic, parking, weather, and your interests.
- Allow approximately 8–10 hours if you plan to do minimal hiking. Travelers adding longer hikes or more stops may prefer to split the tour across two days. Shaka’s current Sedona itinerary is specifically designed to be highly customizable and can be driven in either direction
- Sedona can be busy, especially at popular viewpoints and trailheads. Parking availability may affect which stops you choose, so starting early is recommended. Shaka’s current tour guidance specifically notes that the route provides alternatives when popular parking areas fill up.
- Some recommended stops may require separate admission, parking, day-use, or recreation fees. These optional third-party fees are paid directly to the individual site and are not included with the Shaka Guide tour.
- Hiking is optional. Trail length, difficulty, terrain, and conditions vary by stop, so choose activities that match your comfort level and available time.
- Accessibility varies by stop. Because this is a self-guided tour using your own vehicle, accessibility depends on your vehicle and the locations you choose to visit. Some trails, viewpoints, and outdoor stops may not be wheelchair or stroller accessible.
- Bring a fully charged phone. A car charger is recommended for a full day of exploring.
- This is a private tour/activity. Only your group will participate

It helps to be a techie on your particular cell phone. The entire tour is downloaded to your phone and interacts based on the GPS in the phone. First time I set it up, I got two sets of directions at the same time. Cleared that by closing all the apps, and then opened just the tour. The directions are good and accurate, but the extra comments get annoying. The historical information is very good and entertaining.

Never use them. Do not answer phones do not have a real address and instructions are poor. I paid for nothing ended up doing sightseeing only. Very disappointed! I would like a refund!

Based on your comments, it sounds like there may have been an issue getting the tour redeemed and set up in the Shaka Guide app.
Tours purchased through Viator require a few setup steps before the tour can be downloaded and used - which includes downloading our Shaka Guide mobile app and the tour you booked with Viator on your phone. The download instructions are listed in your Viator ticket under the Before You Go section also sent to you via a direct message to your Viator account after you booked.
We would have been happy to help if you had reached out while you were traveling. I wish we had been able to connect then.
We certainly never want anyone to feel like they paid for something they couldn't use. I'll have Viator review your booking and process your refund request according to their refund policy.

Good tour, better than the high prided private tour or group tour. A little corny but nice music. We mostly drove rather than walking around so we would have appreciated more picture spots to pull over at.
I had an amazing experience with the Sedona self-guided tour—highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area. The flexibility was the biggest advantage; I could explore at my own pace without feeling rushed or tied to a strict schedule. The directions were clear and easy to follow, and the stops were thoughtfully curated to showcase some of Sedona’s most breathtaking views and hidden gems.
What really stood out was how informative the tour was. The audio guide provided interesting background on the area’s geology, history, and local culture, which made each stop feel more meaningful. It felt like having a knowledgeable guide with me, but without the pressure of keeping up with a group.
I also appreciated being able to pause whenever I wanted—whether to take photos, go on a short hike, or just soak in the scenery. Sedona’s red rock landscapes are stunning, and this tour made it easy to fully enjoy them on my own terms.

We totally get that when things don't quite go as planned, it can be a bit of a bummer. Since this particular tour was purchased through Viator, the quickest path to getting a helping hand or a refund is usually right through your Viator ticket. They're set up to help you with that right away.

Very confusing info to start trip and download app. Thought we had to pick up a device. Took about an hour walking around and calling company to figure out you download to phone and and mall area was just starting point. The actual download was fine.

I can understand how that would throw you off. If you’re expecting to pick something up in person and instead it’s a phone download, that first hour can feel frustrating. Sedona doesn’t require any device pickup, everything runs through the app once it’s downloaded to your phone, and the mall area is just one of the route starting points.

maybe it was the low connectivity in the area, but we found the app to be not reliable. we wanted to go to an area near where we were staying first, but it always started the conversation with a location far away from us. it did not have a narrative that went with the location we were at.

Shaka Guide isn’t instant or real-time turn-by-turn like Google Maps, it’s an audio guide that plays stories and directions as you follow the predesigned tour route and you get close to each point along the way.

Easy enough to purchase and set up, but totally useless once you try to use it. The "start point" location directions were very vague, as was everything after that. We finally gave up and found our own way around. I guess the only saving grace was it was only $15, so no major loss.

Difficult downloading; wasn't sure if I did it properly. The order time...then payment time...wasn't sure if I had it done correctly before we left on our trip. We got busy in Sedona and never tried it / used it. Oh well...

It was better than spending a great deal of money on a tour. There was so much more too see and so many places to stop and visit. So much history of the area and great hints of what to do when you stop. The gps tour gives you plenty of time to plan your stop . Do you want to see that spot or do you want continue with the tour to another spot

Be sure to get it all set up in your car and utilize the power cord- allow location settings and use the Shaka guide app.
Once you are all set up- it is fantastic and we enjoyed a beautiful day at our own pace.
The narrator tells stories of history, gives great directions and gives you options of sites.
We will 100% utilize a program like this again as we travel.

Not very user friendly. Unlike other GPS guided tours, it had a hard time identifying where you were at at wouldn’t play at the correct spots. With the windy roads, and the fact you were driving, you couldn’t mess with the app to make it work.
Would not recommend.

This experience never happened! We purchased this same day, but the directions to the meeting place told us to actually go to a location - which we did, at the address provided. They knew nothing about it. When I spoke to this vendor, they said it was a downloadable audio. I would have been okay with it, but we never were able to access it. What a disappointing waste!

The directions throughout the tour was spot on. We enjoyed the chatter of the gal who spoke. She gave great stories on the area we came through. I would absolutely encourage everyone to do this tour.

We had a great time - the things we wanted to do we did and the stuff we didn’t we skipped ! It was great the directions and narration were spot on! There was No way we could get lost , which was a huge initial concern . We couldn’t complete the entire tour we got a late start : my advice is start early as they say there’s a lot to see do and learn about Sedona . I truly underestimated this experience when I purchased but I am so glad I DID!
