Choose a morning or afternoon pickup from the French Quarter (if option selected) and climb aboard your coach for the ride deep into Cajun country. Watch the changing scenery as the cityscape transitions into expansive wetlands. Your coach delivers you to the launch point across the Mississippi River, where you’ll transfer to an open‐sided, covered boat and set off on the fun and educational ride. If you selected the self-drive option, make your own way to the boat and board at the designated time.
Your guide will take you on a wildlife‐spotting cruise through this legendary Louisiana terrain. Glide along the water, viewing the lush greenery and abundant local wildlife, including nesting alligators, egrets, raccoons, snakes, and giant nutria. Some wildlife is more easily spotted during the warmer months of the year. Get great photos and learn about the history and mystery of the swamps, including the culture and ingenuity of the Cajun people who have populated this region for almost 250 years. Your guides will share stories about Cajun music, bayou lifestyle, and culinary traditions—like the creation of Louisiana’s signature gumbo, as well as information about the region’s passionate efforts to preserve the wetlands.
Your coach returns to the French Quarter by mid‐afternoon or evening (if option selected).

Didn’t see much of the swamp. Mostly looked like a lake or river. Quite boring actually. I thought we would be on an air boat but instead it was more like being in a tourist boat. Hard to see anything unless you were on the right side.
christopher_c, May 2026
Great tour, good guide. Would definitely recommend.
Saw a number of gators and racoons who came up to the boat.I would question the use of marshmallows to attract the wildlife though!
LauraFieser, May 2026

Michael_K, Feb 2026
This is a easy 2-hour tour of the bayous and swamps. tlThe boat is quite stable and has a cover overhead to protect from sun and weather. Wildlife is much more active in the warmer months, March thru October. Sunny days are best. A good outing for kids. Bring your camera, bug spray and a water bottle. And some cash to tip your guide!
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Thanks Michael. We really enjoy showing the bayou inhabitants to kids of all ages. Thank you for the very nice review.
Lynette_W, Jan 2026
Please take a light jacket, because it gets pretty cold on the bayou. The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the area. I would recommend this tour to anyone who will be visiting New Orleans. Thank you
Response from Host, Jan 2026
Thank you for the accolades and for future recommendations. We hope you join us again.

Sunny warm days are best to see the Alligators. We saw several, both sunning and swimming. A couple even approached the boat. The captain/guide was excellent.
Response from Host, Jan 2026
Great review. Thank you for sharing your swamp adventure.
Giulianna_P, Dec 2025
December you are unlikely to see many alligators but we were lucky to see 5. The tour company was amazing from end to end.

We love that you found our company amazing. It means the world to all of us.
DANIELLE_R, Nov 2025
Bayou swamp tour was very interactive and great for kids and adults. We saw tons of alligators 🐊 and we even saw cattle 🐄 along the river basin of the bayou. The the history of the bayou was so magical and you could truly see the inspiration behind Princess and the Frog 🐸
Response from Host, Nov 2025
Great review and we are delighted that the locals (animals) came out to greet you. Did you see the Steamboat Natchez? That was the inspiration for the riverboat in the same movie.

The bus and boat were both very clean, and both drivers gave us great information about the history of the Cajun people, New Orleans, and suggestions on where to eat.
The wait at the river was mininal, and Captain AJ knew where to bring us so we could see the wildlife.
Response from Host, Oct 2025
Sounds like "Lots Of Fun" to us as well. Captain AJ loves to share his swamps and his wildlife neighbors.
Ron_G, Oct 2025

From Robert, the tour bus driver to the Captain Ed, of the pontoon boat were all very professional. I’m not too absolutely sure of the Captain’s name. They both explained fascinating history, along with interesting stories. It was a fabulous experience that me and my friends will cherish. Thank you for the experience.
Response from Host, Oct 2025
Wonderful review from you and your friends. Thank you for letting us know.
Rich_E, Sep 2025
Outstanding pontoon boat trip. Guide was informative and the music was good. Very relaxing and lots of wildlife.

From alligators to magnificent egrets, they all show up to share the swamp's beauty with our guests.
Billie_G, Aug 2025
The bus ride and history the driver gave us on the way was nice. We enjoyed being out on the water and our boat tour guide was great as well. Saw some gators and he also fed them.
Response from Host, Sep 2025
Thank you for joining us in the two different views of Louisiana cultures.
Juliane_H, Aug 2025
The Bus ride to the Jean Lafitte Boat Tour was well organized and even packed with infos about the city. However, the captain of the boat did not give any information or guidance about the area whatsoever. He even used marshmallows to feed the alligators and raccoons! It is horrible to get those wild animals used to human contact, but not even give a damn to provide them with real food. Would not recommend.
Response from Host, Aug 2025
Juliane, thank you for touring with us and providing us an opportunity to share some wildlife information with you. We would never feed our native wildlife any item unless it was deemed safe for all our bayou inhabitants. They forage on their own and that cannot be interrupted or replaced. Although the idea of marsh mellows may seem foreign, we are in protected areas and could not - and would not - harm them.
Yuri_S, Aug 2025
The tour was both educational and enjoyable. I enjoyed the guide jokes and charisma. I will most definitely recommend.
Response from Host, Aug 2025
Thank you for spreading the word. We have unique bayou systems and native wildlife inhabitants.
Gary_R, Aug 2025
Expect a great tour . You won’t be disappointed.
I recommend this tour. Our bus driver was great. And had a lot of interesting facts
Our captain of our boat also was very informative

Moneka_G, Jul 2025
WOW, what an awesome excursion! We had a blast learning about Nola's history and seeing all the gators. The transportation to and from the excursion was great. We had an air conditioned coach bus that was so comfy. We would definitely book this tour again!
Response from Host, Jul 2025
Please book the tour again and bring friends and family. It is fun for all ages. Thank you for the 5 stars.
MariaI_B, Jul 2025
It was a whole lot of fun. The alligators were very "accommodating" and showed up along the way. The raccoons were cute, too. Not even the rain could spoil the ride.
My only suggestion would be that they play Cajun music instead of rock-and-roll to keep in harmony with the surroundings!
Response from Host, Jul 2025
So happy to hear of your good tour experience in the swamps. We will certainly pass along your music recommendations to the guides.
