Henry was a great guide through our hike through Vidigal and the dois irmãos. The hike itself is easy to moderate difficulty with sufficient rest breaks. Henry made it enjoyable with his humour and interesting facts about the trail, Rio and the favelas. The view at sunset is just incredible and worth the hike.

My group really enjoyed this hike! Our tour guide was friendly, and spoke English and Portuguese which made it easy to communicate. The hike was moderate pace, beautiful scenery with great photo options along the route. Our guide was informative and fun!

It was great! Super friendly guide, felt very safe, took great pictures. Loved it! Was asked to leave slightly earlier (2.30am) which ended up being fantastic as we arrived and got a perfect spot before the crowds arrived.

Amen! Honestly, the only negative reviews we have on our profile are either due to weather, or major lack of communication on the side of the tourist. So i'm very glad that you had a great time, and thank you for being able to laugh at the funny rain that we got. Talk about 10pm to 2am clear skies, by 4am summer thunderstorm and by 530am a perfect sunrise. 🤣 nothing like an early AM shower.

I had a truly incredible experience! The company had a really fast response time, and all of my questions and concerns were answered before the tour. The tour guide, Ricardo, was FANTASTIC! Easily the best tour guide of the trip, he was friendly, helpful, kind and really knowledgeable about Brazil and life in the favelas. Can’t recommend it enough, especially if you are active and like adventure! Sunrise was super early but so worth it, especially to get prime seats on the mountain top.

Took the Dois Irmaos hike with Henry with a little ride through the favela, what a cool experience that was! Henry knows his way around the favela and the locals, which felt reassuring and more safe. plus he knows all the secret spots throughout the hike which provide amazing views, which were an extra bonus that you might not get to see if u are doing the hike without a guide. Henry is also hilarious and we laughed the whole way through, so totally recommend doing the hike or other Rio activities with him! :)

Having travelled to over 55 countries and organising several experiences through Viator - this was easily the worst experience.
Henry Montalto cancelled the sunrise hike, citing unstable weather (we spoke to many others coming down who said there was no issue). As a result, we rebooked for the 6.30am hike up Dois Irmaos.
We waited until 6.55am at the bottom of a favela, and Henry didn’t show up. We spoke to two other guides about Henry:
1. The first had never heard about him, even though there is a large WhatsApp group of fellow guides who run this hike.
2. The second warned us against Henry but was hesitant to say why.
So as a result, we set off alone and hiked without a guide. There really was ZERO issues with the weather on the hike - this was a total excuse for Henry to cancel/ no show.
At 7.15am, 45 mins after we were supposed to meet Henry, we first heard excuses…followed by a tirade or abuse and unhinged messages (all screenshots attached). This guy has serious emotional issues and shouldn’t be trusted to guide people on a hike. The least you can expect is open and transparent communication, if he couldn’t make it for 6.30am - instead I received abuse.

Here we go, another passport bro, who's has to inform us he's traveled fifty five countries ugh! Please mention you decided to book our tour incredibly last minute with instability and rain. We had bad thunderstorms last night and even lost power, which I sent you photos of, you know this. Anyone can just check the date on Google (Friday Jan 6th into Saturday Jan 7th, Rio de Janeiro) for proof. Just google search the weather history, technology is great for this! By the way, there was no sunrise, even though there were people. You will find plenty of guides that are going to take you up with instability because they want your money, and that is not our game, nor prerogative. I literally have the photos from today, because others guides sent me. Now I have no idea why you would lie, well I kind of do... People like you can't take any responsibility and you're not the first one nor will be the last one! I indeed canceled last night's sunrise, and refunded you, specifically stating the weather, and you agreed via whatsapp because it was literally raining!! I then offered early am, because you really wanted to join the hike, yes this is true. However, there's a very important detail you're leaving out, you made NO PAYMENT when requested! I am not going to meet anyone nor schedule a tour without a payment prior, especially after I have refunded you, and had various last minute cancelations due to the weather! That is ridiculous, so then you calling me and texting me early in the morning demanding I do the tour was the cherry on top. We actually run one of the most popular tours at Dois Irmãos. We usually have the busiest groups, best reviews (outside of the passport bros) and we provide an incredible amount of information regarding the city and comunidade below. So you saying that people don't know us, is hilarious, because we've been doing it first and for 10 years. So if you're gonna make a lie, try to do something a little more believable, although I wouldn't expect you to have thought that one through. "The worst tour experience ever" Saved you from hiking at 230am to see "55" shades of gray, with 350 other clueless tourists who went up. You had the entire moutain alone, and you're still crying and over here making fake accounts and reviews. I guess you can't have it all! And the best quote you made of the day via whatsapp was "You don't need power to use a mobile phone" when I had no electricity from the storm. I had no idea cellphones don't run on electricity, you're definitely onto something. (Sarcasm)....

We had an excellent time with Henry. The motorcycle ride to and from the Dois Irmãos hike was a highlight for our my wife and our teen kids. Henry was professional and clearly safety-focused the entire time, which really mattered to us. The climb is steep and took us about an hour, and he kept everyone motivated and moving at a comfortable pace without making it feel rushed. He also somehow always knew the best spots for photos and made sure we came away with great pictures. Highly recommend Henry if you’re looking for a fun, well-run, family-friendly adventure in Rio.

Rodrigo is an exceptional guide. Funny, chill, and intelligent. He has a lot of cool stories and insight to tell during the hike and I didn’t feel rushed the few times I had to stop and catch my breath. This tour is a must in Rio, I highly recommend booking it and not to do it alone without a guide!

We got on time to the pickup point but no-one from the tour company came. We waited half hour and decided to hire someone else. It could have been an issue with the communication since I did not have any internet but it looks like no-one tried contacting me so I assume no one showed up. That said, I got an email confirming a full refund which is great considering I didn't have to go through the hassle of requesting it, complain etc, so on that front, I'm happy enough.
The people we hired we nice, we had the tour, enjoyed it.

Yes, you didn't have service. We sent you at least fifteen messages over 9hrs. I reached out to you from the early morning, immediately after you booked until just before the tour. I also tried to contact you on whatsapp, but you did not have! And then we proceeded to provide you a refund because you were not answering. Out of curiosity, in what world do you live in? Because this review is nonsense. And on top of this, your booking was extremely last minute, 4hrs before said hike at 4pm the same day.
Here is the conversation copy and pasted!! Next time check your inbox, especially when booking four hours before a tour! Or buy cellphone service to not have communication issues! ESIMs are cheap.

Loveddddd the experience ! Although I was out of breath and stopped multiple times to catch myself, Ricardo was amazing and knowledgeable & to top it off, he had a very positive attitude towards taking many pictures and videos of us & they all came out perfect. Henry wasn’t available during that day but Rodrigo got us up and was a really nice cool guy, always made sure everyone was together. It was a really awesome experience. Also be prepared for the climb up, it’s not crazy difficult but it’s a bit exhausting but all fun. My favorite part of Rio

Rodrigo was THE best person to do this with. I’ve NEVER done a hike in my life and this was difficult but he was very understanding and nurturing without the whole thing. I walked right above him for 90% of the trip and I was literally out of breath for part of the trip (literally the last 5mins of it!
) but he didn’t let me give up and was so helpful throughout.
All I say is forget:
- water (you’ll need it. TRUST ME!!)
- mosquito spray
- maybe a jumper or when you’re up there coz it gets a lil chilly
- up to 40reais in cash
- it’s not an easy hike (kinda like an advanced/immediate level) but it’s so worth it

It’s a lot of fun!! You can’t really do this trip without a guide. It’s so much easier to just book this trip and have everything sorted for you. I would say make sure you’re a hiker rather than a walker. This is a hike!!

Our tour guide, Rodrigo, was amazing!! I would give him 10 stars if that was an option. He was so knowledgeable of the ecology and wildlife, very friendly and excellent English. I liked that it was a smaller group (7 total) and would recommend the sunset tour as it was less busy and the views were breathtaking. I really enjoyed taking the motorcycle (driven by locals) through the favela - it was a great way to have some exposure and a lot of fun if you are comfortable on motorcycles. It was a pretty easy hike as long as you are moderately fit. Highly recommended!
