Samaria Gorge! So, you think you want to hike it. Excellent idea! It is quite, quite beautiful. But should you hike it and how should you hike it? Well, you clearly have an adventurous spirit so, assuming you have the oomph to back up your spirit, the only question left is should you arrange it yourself or go with a guide? We pondered this and decided on going with Sara from Platanos Tours / Elafonissos Travel and what an absolutely fabulous decision it was. Firstly, Sara hikes the gorge three or four times a week, so she most assuredly knows it and loves it…!! And she will share all of that with you on the bus to the gorge and whenever she comes across you as you hike down. Secondly, no, you don’t hike in a group. Everyone hikes separately at their own pace with Sara following later to offer her insights into the gorge if she comes across you and to help anyone who needs it. Thirdly, having an early morning pickup arranged beforehand, having Sara make sure there are tickets for the boat so you can spend your post-hike time in the sea not trying to get onto it in a boat, and having a bus back waiting for you after you get off the ferry? Precious! Hiking Samaria is a wonderful experience, but why not make it even better by going with the delightful Sara?!

Given the incredible amount of positive reviews this tour has on TripAdvisor and Viator, I was of course expecting it to be a great excursion ... and those reviews turned out to be completely true! This was an incredible way to get acquainted with Crete on our first day in Greece and Nikos, our guide, was exceptional. His passion for Crete is palpable, which makes sense as it is where he was born, raised, and currently operates a self-sustaining farm. Even though we were unable to tour the Cave of Zeus, the stop off at the ceramics workshop was actually a highlight for us! It was incredible getting to watch a master at work in his shop and his crafts were beautiful ... we purchased quite a bit :) Nikos' humor also made the excursion incredibly fun and light-hearted. We'll be recommending this tour to all of our friends and family who find themselves in Crete and you can rest assured that your money will be well spent if you choose to do the same.

First and foremost the entire experience was simply amazing from start to finish. Let me start by saying our tour guide Nikos was absolutely fantastic. He was knowledgeable in all aspects not only on this rich history of the island of Crete and the Cretan people but in Greek history in general. Secondly I never felt like I was being treated like just a tourist the entire time I felt like I was being treated like family as a guest in someones home. Nikos made my partner and I feel like we've known him for years and he did a great job making the experience feel personal. The beach it self was beautiful and it's something you can't explain you just have to go and see it for yourself. Calm relaxing and so full of life with unmatched beauty at every turn of your head. Last but not least the luncheon was by far my favorite part of this trip. You're not just going to any old tavern to have lunch this place is special. The location the sights and the food was incredible. It was truly a surprise filled rich history, flavors, and a sense of deep rooted community. If I could rate this higher than a 5 out of 5 I would.

This was an amazing experience that we (myself and my partner) would recommended to anyone who is travelling through Crete 👍🏼 Our guide - George - was the best guide we possibly could have asked for. The experience was extremely high-quality and personalised. The treck itself was exhilarating and challenging at times - but, the perfect amount of both. As people who are relatively active, but had never done anything like this before - George made the experience feel like a breeze - he made us feel super comfortable and confident the entire way along. The whole way along the walk it just felt like talking to an old friend, cracking jokes, having fun, learning about everything Crete. This was a once in a lifetime experience and a must-do … Highly recommended!! 🙂

Was just like the rest of the reviews say, an absolute blast from start to finish! It is a very comprehensive itinerary and they pack a lot in for the day! The tour guides are very friendly and knowledgeable, which makes it a no brainer. Don't look any further, just book it! A special thanks to our lovely toure guide, Louise, she was epic!

It was interesting to see and experience Elafonisi, though it doesn't look as in some of the pictures that can be found online. For example, the pink color of the sand is not that saturated, and it's not pink everywhere. The water is crystal clear and nice to swim in. We brought our own parasol with us but struggled to keep it upright because of the strong wind. Don't underestimate the walk back from the beach to the parking lot - it is uphill and can be tiresome, especially under the scorching sun. The tour guide provided interesting information about Crete. On our way back, we had lunch at a tavern in Elos where the food came very quickly. The only thing we didn't like was the 30-minute stop at a café and honey shop on our way to Elafonisi because it felt too long. 10-15 minutes should have been enough.

Adrian was a great guide. We really were able to see the countryside of Crete from the mountains, the olive groves, the seaside, and small towns in between. The ATV ride itself was a bit challenging navigating some of the rocky dirt roads, but nothing the average person can’t handle. Also, we had just a gorgeous weather day which made the journey extremely enjoyable!

Beautiful experience right the mountains! It is a tiny family business and it feels good! Thie horses are sweet and friendly. The ballade was from the mountain down to the beach. The view was astonishing! And you discover less touristic areas which was charming. Only my mum, myself and Niko the horse owner. Niko was simply perfect! Very professional and friendly. He loves his horses. They are well cared of. We recommend this experience 100%!
