An epic off road adventure with the amazing Nikos at the helm. Breathtaking views, amazing knowledge, great banter! Kids loved the pottery making, goat feeding and now want us to get a 4x4! Tasty local lunch with wine and some local moonshine. This is the second experience I’ve booked through Viator and it won’t be the last

We booked this tour last minute not knowing exactly what to expect, but it ended up being one of the best experiences we had during our entire trip to Greece! Our guide was absolutely fantastic. He was incredibly knowledgeable about Crete, but also hilarious, energetic, and passionate. He brought so much life to the tour and made the day unforgettable. The off-roading was a blast and such a refreshing change from the usual tours. Every stop was full of fun, from feeding and milking goats, to watching a pottery demonstration, to a live cooking demo followed by a delicious traditional meal. The views throughout the day were stunning. Although the Cave of Zeus was closed, our guide was transparent about it from the start and did a great job adding in other experiences that more than made up for it. This tour was packed with culture, fun, and breathtaking scenery. It was hands down one of our favorite activities, and I truly cannot recommend it enough. Also shout out to Mario who led the group traveling with us and did a great job explaining production of olive oil at the factory.

Dishonest tour company.

Candace_F, Jul 2026
I do not recommend this tour company for any adventure. While our guide was nice, the company is not trustworthy which resulted in us not being able to go on the tour. First, the activity details provide that the cave of Zeus may close randomly and that they would advise once they knew. Less than 24 hours before our tour (meaning that we could no longer cancel) the company advised us that they just learned the cave of zeus would be closed for our tour on July 21, a Tuesday. When we met with our guide in the morning, he advised that the Cave of Zeus is closed EVERY TUESDAY for maintenance and it has been that way for at least six weeks. Therefore, the company intentionally mislead its customers that the closure was random and did so again when we raised this with them on the day of the tour. This was, in our view, very misleading and dishonest. Second, the activity details say the tour includes a Landrover or Mercedes Benz vehicle. We received a Landrover with broken A/C. It was 36 degrees outside with no A/C. I tried to endure it but I get very car sick and in that heat, it was impossible to endure the mountain roads. Due to the heat and no A/C, we did not make it to the first stop in the tour as I got carsick. We asked our tour guide to call a taxi to return to our hotel. He said yes, but that we had to pay for it. We said thats fine and asked the price. Our guide said 60 to 70 euros. They proceeded to have one of their employees come to pick us up (we knew this because they were wearing the same tour guide shirt). Before getting into the vehicle, we asked to confirm that the ride would be 60 to 70 euros, and the driver said it would be 100 euros. Therefore, not only did the company not provide what they advertised, they tried to take advantage of the circumstances by profiting further from us. We turned the ride town, called our own taxi, and paid 75 euros. After this experience, we messaged the company to request a refund minus the cost of lunch as we didnt want them to be out any money. They denied a refund stating that they offered a different day for us to go because of the closure which is a lie as they never offered this. We have screenshots of the messages but the review on viator does not have an option to attach. Their excuse for thr A/C was that they did not guarantee a vehicle with A/C unless we requested it. We wrote back saying this was incorrect, and the company refused to reply. As such, we would recommend going with a different company if you wish to visit the Caves. We have been on multiple tours with other companies in Crete since this experience and they have all been wonderful and honest. My husband and I truly believe it is just this company on Crete that is dishonest.

Fun for the family

Kylie_H, Jul 2026
Great way to see the gorgeous farmland of the plateau without driving yourself. Along the way you visit a farm with wonderful fresh cheese, Psychro cave, have a very authentic lunch and finish the day at an olive oil cooperative. The team is really fun and provides a lot of information. It's well worth a day of your time. I think it's important to note that the hike to the cave could be difficult for those with health conditions especially in the heat. Kids can ride a donkey, so it's fun for them.

A fun day in the mountains

Amy_L, Jul 2026
1. Our guide, Michelangelo (Mikel) had a great sense of humor and knowledge of Cretan history. The guides are integral to the entertainment of the tour, as they narrate and demonstrate each stop on the way. 10/10 for our guide. 2. The stops include views of beautiful mountain, lake, and ocean vistas for photos. Because there were only 8 people in the Land Rover, we had time to take a lot of photos. Our guide also took photos for us. Most of the vistas were isolated. We don’t have to compete with other tourists for the best spot. 3. First stop was to a traditional farm house to sample homemade raki, goat cheese, bread and olive oil. We got to grind wheat in a grindstone and milk a female goat. 4. The best stop of all was to see Zeus’ Cave. The entrance fee of €15 is not included in the tour price. The line to pay at the window took about 5 minutes. One had to hike 15 minutes uphill to the to the entrance. Once inside, there are well-constructed steps (200 down, 200 back up) and railing for the large cave. The visit takes about 10 minutes. Outside of the hills are also nice cafes and souvenir shops selling local crafts. 5. Lunch at a taverna in the mountains was simple but very tasty. I elected for a baked 1/4 chicken with lemony potatoes, Greek salad, green beans, bread with olive oil, and local red and white wine. The off-road experience in an old Land Rover jeep was a lot of fun, but the car did not have air-conditioning. We were picked up at our hotel at 8 AM, and picked up two other groups before starting the journey. We were home by 4 PM. One other annoyance was that as I tried to book this tour, I was unable to use my Viator credits. Viator also did not respond to my email or text inquiries.

Zeus Cave

Mike_A, Jun 2026
The highlight for us was the Zeus cave. Be aware that it is close to a 20 minute hike, going up pretty much continually. While we did the hike in sandals with no problems, we would recommend running shoes for comfort. There is a little refreshment stand at the top for cold drinks, etc. The cave itself was the highlight for us!!! The rest of the tour was also very interesting and worthwhile as well. The lunch was very good but is a bit later in the day. We were fortunate enough to sit in the forward facing seats for much of the tour. When we switched off to the rear side facing seats, it was a bit awkward and cramped, but that was totally expected. The tour company, Safari Experts, and our guide were excellent as well! In short, yes, we would recommend this tour.

Buyer Beware!!!

kfpbnm9qnh, Oct 2025
This tour offered a hotel pickup. My hotel was selected and the tour operator confirmed the pickup location and time. I arrived 10 minutes before pickup time. At the designated time, no transportation appeared. Tour operator was contacted and they informed that the original pickup point had been changed. I was never advised of the change and never informed where to monitor any possible change. Tour operator has refused any refund or compensation. My request to have this decision reviewed has been completely ignored. This is as close to a scam as it gets. At a minimum, communication is very poor. Always had a great experience with Viator in the past. What a shame Viator!

Amazing tour - Highly recommend

Jennifer_H, Oct 2025
Excellent trip one of the best we have ever been on. Communication of where to be and timings were brilliant. Most of all all the tour guides where amazing especially Nicholi our tour guide was so passionate about making us have the best time ever. He was so knowledgeable, charismatic and got us all laughing out loud. The trip itself was a perfect day in exploring the beautiful Cretian way of life. Thanks again to you all xxx

Perfect Way to Explore Crete

Jordan_B, Sep 2025
This was by far, one of the best activities and tours we have done and a great way to see the more mountainous side of Greece. It’s a family business and you can tell the people that work there all have a great time. Mike was our guide, and he made the whole day so fun, high energy, and informative along the way. I am so glad we did this tour and will recommend this tour / company to anyone who comes to visit Crete! Thank you, Mike, for making our day so memorable!

Rough roads ahead

Harold_O, Sep 2025
It was a fun day with many interesting stops. One knock was the 4wd portion in which our driver drove un-necessarily fast up a very rough portion of the road. He hurt one of our group’s back. It was otherwise a lovely day.

Perfect Way to Experience Crete!

Chase_W, Sep 2025
Given the incredible amount of positive reviews this tour has on TripAdvisor and Viator, I was of course expecting it to be a great excursion ... and those reviews turned out to be completely true! This was an incredible way to get acquainted with Crete on our first day in Greece and Nikos, our guide, was exceptional. His passion for Crete is palpable, which makes sense as it is where he was born, raised, and currently operates a self-sustaining farm. Even though we were unable to tour the Cave of Zeus, the stop off at the ceramics workshop was actually a highlight for us! It was incredible getting to watch a master at work in his shop and his crafts were beautiful ... we purchased quite a bit :) Nikos' humor also made the excursion incredibly fun and light-hearted. We'll be recommending this tour to all of our friends and family who find themselves in Crete and you can rest assured that your money will be well spent if you choose to do the same.

Fun day!

Louise_L, Aug 2025
Excellent fun day! Highly recommend this experience. If you have back problems wouldn’t recommend as it can get a little rough but great fun. Unfortunately the cave was closed for maintenance but this didn’t ruin the day as they had an alternative activity that was good fun. Great way to see hidden gems

A splendid Island tour

Mary_P, Jun 2025
A fantastic day out. Saw lots of the island and our guide,Andreas, was very knowledgeable and a lot of fun. The views once we were up in the mountains were spectacular and we were given a lot of information. We stopped for lunch which was absolutely delicious and we were also shown how to make Tzakiki and the ingredients used for stuffing peppers and tomatoes. A really enjoyable day out full of laughter.

Crete Jeep Tour

Michael_L, Jun 2025
This was an amazing introduction to Crete. Vagelis was a fantastic guide and showed us the local side of the island. We fed and milked goats, visited beautiful lookouts, learned about the olive oil industry, explored a monestary and had a wonderful Greek lunch at an intimate family restaurant in the mountains of Crete. Our guide made sure that we experienced the beauty of the island as well as the local customs and traditions. This was our favorite tour while on our 23 day European vacation and helped our entire party fall in love with Crete. We would highly recommend this tour to about any age group. Our family included seniors, middle aged parents and teens. There was something in it for everyone.

Fun day!

Chris_L, Jun 2025
Great day and we loved seeing all of Crete. The Cave of Zeus was closed, but went to a pottery demonstration. Jesus and Buddha were fantastic tour guides. Lunch was delicious and the view was breathtaking!

No Cave of Zeus: Undergoing Multi-year Renovation

Ronald_K, May 2025
Lots of off-roading, lots of snack/eating time - little sightseeing. Replacing Cave of Zeus with roadside ceramic shops a joke.

Response from Host, May 2025

Dear Ronald, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We would like to clarify that we always inform our clients as we did with you about any stop that can't be operated as the cave of Zeus. We’re sorry to hear that the experience did not meet your expectations, particularly regarding the closure of the Cave of Zeus. However, we would like to clarify a few important points. The cave is currently closed by decision of the Ministry of Culture, and unfortunately, there is no official reopening date. This is entirely beyond our control, and the cave may open or close at any time depending on the ministry’s directives. As part of our commitment to transparency, we inform all guests immediately after booking about the situation and encourage them to reach out with any questions. In addition, our tour guide also reiterates this information at the beginning of the tour to ensure that all participants are aware and updated. While we understand your disappointment, we do our best to adapt the itinerary responsibly and meaningfully under these circumstances. The stops we include aim to give a genuine glimpse into Cretan culture, even when unexpected changes occur. We truly appreciate your understanding and thank you again for your feedback. Kind regards, Safari Experts Crete

Great trip, well organised and lunch was superb in traditional Greek taverna with appetiser, main, dessert and red/white wine Highlight for me was the cookery demo and tasting the Tzatziki with fresh bread Also met some wonderful people on the trip and had a good laugh

Experience Cretan life as a local

SAMIR_J, Apr 2025
This is a MUST DO tour in Crete. A very pleasant surprise - experienced a Shepards life, milked a goat, consumed fresh goat cheese, homemade olive oil, raki and bread. The whole off roading experience was also amazing. We even made some pottery at a local ceramic shop on the top of a mountain. The cooking classes and the food there was fantastic. The last stop at the olive oil factory sealed the day. Statis the owner of the business and his entire team Of guide-drivers is just amazing. They made Touring a great experience

The best birthday ever

Brilliant trip

Absolutely fantastic experience. Highly recommend. Our tour guide, Andreas, was amazing and couldn't do enough for you.

Super Mario

David_W, Apr 2025
Mario was super. Very knowledgeable, friendly and a great sense of humor. He got sick toward the end of the tour but he powered through it and remained in good spirits. Stopping at a local farm was neat. The tour should advise people that the cave is closed for repair until 2026 or 2027.
