Authentic Crete- A rich day of scenery, food and culture
My partner and I went on the Knossos palace and Lasithi Plateau tour with Spyros this weekend and I can without a doubt say he was the best tour guide I have ever had. He was funny, had a wealth of knowledge and it was clear that he loved his job and sharing his culture with visitors.
We were originally meant to be on a small group tour but the family that was meant to join was ill (very unfortunate for them) and so we got a private tour experience for a great price (very fortunate for us). Spyros planned and adapted the day well so we could avoid heat and large crowds at the busy Knossos. He made small stops along the way to show us different aspects of the landscape (I got to come home with a bunch of wild herbs and cherries).
I loved the olive oil factory and pottery shop, we learnt a bit about the craft and there was no pressure to buy anything (but I couldn’t help but buy several of products from these great small businesses). Knossos and the Zeus cave were very impressive and well worth seeing, but I think my highlight of the day was visiting Spyros’ local village and eating the homemade olive oil biscuits that were made by an old woman who’s cafe is the heart of the village.
The lunch was delicious, Spyros’ meal recommendations were golden, and the view of the Lasithi plateau and windmills was a great was to wrap up the day (with a couple of small stops on the way back to Heraklion).
I definitely recommend this tour for an authentic and packed (but not rushed) Crete experience!

Lovely evening cruise on...
Lovely evening cruise on a gorgeous and clean catamaran. Really worth picking this time for the glorious sunset upon the return trip. Decent amount of time for swimming in a little cove. Snacks were just ok but made up for with unlimited choice of beverages. Good music and not too loud so could enjoy conversation with other guests.
Crew (I recall Slavin and Paul) were polite, friendly and routinely made sure everyone was having a nice time. Highly recommended.

Amazing family experience
Amazing guide Katerina. So much patience for our two kids (9 and 12) who are not used to walk around archeological sights and museums… she was so engaging and took good care of the family. Nikos was also great. Cold water waiting for us, very nice guy and helped move us around between locations. Thank you!

Our tour guides George...
Our tour guides George and Dimitiri were very nice, we really enjoyed all the activities we did. I highly recommend the olive oil tasting and pottery workshop. Our group were 4 teens and 4 adults, there was something for everyone! We had plenty of time to explore Knososs Palace, the museum and were even treated to Greek coffee by George and Dimitri, which was a surprising treat! The monastery is a must see too. Thank you for making our experience in Crete a memorable one!

Awesome scenery and great people.
A great way to see Crete! Beautiful scenery. Our guides were awesome. My 26 yr old daughter and I each got our own quad and wished in hindsight we would have shared one. Our thumbs got tired! Chicken skewer lunch with tomatoes/cukes and fries were also served. Definitely would recommend!

Our guide was awesome! He...
Our guide was awesome! He worked around our allergies and food preferences and was very knowledgeable about the different types of food and the meaning behind them! He asked lots of questions about our culture and we both got to learn! Overall, we had a great experience and left very full (don’t eat several hours beforehand if you want to make it through).

An Absolute MUST!
Perfect from A to Z!
Our guide Dimitris was awesome! He was so knowledgeable, showed up on time and had the cleanest vehicle. Offered us water immediately and told us what to expect on the trip. He gave us some history lessons as we rode to our first part of the destination where we stopped for coffee and pastries. The gorge was phenomenal and is an absolute must! This time of year the water was cold, but once you get used to it, it was great. We got the best pictures. A little bit of a warning though…you definitely need water shoes and sneakers for the short hike. You definitely need to be in good health and be OK with inclined and steep terrain.
Afterward, we went to Kalypso Beach for some sunbathing and swimming. Another picture perfect part of the day. After hanging out there for another hour or so we went to lunch at a local restaurant where we simply had the best Cretan food and got to talk to some locals and really experience what the area has to offer. I even got a chance to buy locally sourced olive oil to take home with me! It’s one of their major exports as we looked and drove by all the olive trees in the mountains!
This was the most perfect day for myself and my family and would highly recommend this tour!

Wonderful Overview of Crete
Our guide, APO, did an absolutely fabulous job today. Not only did he pick us up at a different location due to a hotel cancellation, but he treated us like family for the day. We visited an olive oil factory and received an educational tour of how olive oil was made in the past and today.
We drove into the mountainside and plateau region. We experienced " Greek Starbucks" coffee in a village, learned about culture and customs. Explored windmills, town wells, historic trees, learned about farming and plant life. Tasted fresh goat cheese and yogurt. A traditional wood stove cooked Greek lunch hit the spot- with a nip of raki to follow. We finished up with a trip to Knossos Palace. APO drove safely, answered all of our questions and went above and beyond to accommodate everyone! I highly recommend him as a tour guide and true gentleman. His friendly personality is infectious. This was one of the best ways to begin our Cretan vacation.

Highlight of our Crete trip!
This trip was one of the highlights of our trip to Crete. The boat was nice and spacious, we were 11 people including the captain and the skipper and there was enough space for all of us. The Dia Island itself was not too interesting, but it was a nice area to chill on the boat or swim (really blue, clear water!), although on the day we were there the water was a bit cold. The lunch was prepared fresh on the boat and was amazing! I was kind of expecting a cold, simple dish but the crew went above and beyond to prepare a delicious meal for us. Also we had a free flow of drinks including wine. Big thanks to Dima and Mano from Cretan Sailing Cruises - they were the best crew we could ever hope for. Friendly, funny, and they made sure every second we spent on the boat was comfortable. I would definitely recommend this trip - but make sure to bring warm clothes because it can get really windy on board!

We had an amazing time...
We had an amazing time with our guide/ Driver Mike. He took the time to explain everything from Ancient Greek history to the different plants and vegetation in each region. Allowed us to take our time to enjoy and explore through out the day.
Thanks James and Mereta.

Absolute Empfehlung!
It was just beautiful. From pickup to drop-off, everything just worked out. The shuttle was very punctual, even a little early at the hotel, so we could start on time at the harbor. Alexandra and Markos were warm and inviting. They explained everything well and took care of everything we needed. The sailing trip was beautiful despite the very calm sea, and Markos did his best so that we could at least sail a little with the power of the wind. When we arrived at the island, there were explanations and assistance for the activities. We were very impressed by Markos' patience and calmness when he helped a fellow traveler control her fear and go into the water. There was also a birthday song with dessert for a fellow traveler. A successful surprise from Alexandra and Markos. We didn't miss anything and could feel free. For Markos, it's not just his job, but a passion. We could all feel it, and it just brought us joy. It wasn't a tourist-style farewell, but an experience with heart and warmth. The food that Alexandra prepared was very tasty and filling. We sailed towards the sunset, and just before the harbor, we arrived back on time with the sun having set. Our driver was already waiting. That was nice, we had no waiting times.
Thank you for this unforgettable trip and our passion behind that!!!

The guide and driver were...
The guide and driver were super. The guide made sure we were well informed about the events of the trip, the area and history of the area during our ride to the beach. The ride through the gorge was an experience we won’t soon forget and on the return trip they even stopped so we could buy some of the local honey.
The beach was a little crowded but beautiful nonetheless.
Would definitely recommend this trip. We had a great time.
