Our food tour was one of the absolute highlights of our time in Greece! From the moment we met Elizabeth, she made us feel welcome with her warm personality, incredible knowledge, and genuine love for her city. By the end of the tour, she didn’t just feel like a guide—she felt like family. Elizabeth took us to several amazing local spots where we experienced authentic Greek cuisine, and every single stop was outstanding. Each place offered something unique, and everything we tasted was absolutely delicious. My biggest piece of advice is to come hungry! There is so much incredible food, and you’ll definitely want to save room for the final dessert stop—it was the perfect ending to an unforgettable evening. My husband had only been in Greece for a few hours before we started the tour, and it couldn’t have been a better introduction to the country. Not only did we discover incredible food and learn about Greek culture, but staying active on the tour also helped us adjust to the local time. If you’re visiting Athens, this tour is a must-do. Must do!

This is a must do!!!! I’ve done several food tours but this might be the best one. Our guide (Jenny) was GREAT! She was incredibly knowledgeable and did a great job explaining everything and engaging with the group. The food stops were plentiful so come prepared to eat. This is an absolute must do if you are in Athens.

Try to do this first

I wish we had done this earlier in our visit so we would have had a better idea of what’s good and where to get it. Constantina knew and took us to places we probably wouldn’t have ever found on our own, explaining what all the dishes were, where in Greece they came from and some ancient and recent history as well. Plus she walked us by a landmark or two. And there was way more than enough to eat. Maybe in the dead of summer there could be some more water available but a very small quibble that is. Great tour!

Experience authentic Athens

Come hungry. There is so much good food to eat. Our tour started off with a welcome message and very clear and easy to follow directions leading us to the meet up point. Árela was our guide and greeted us so warmly that it felt like meeting a friend. We sat and chatted while sampling our first tasting. We had spanakopita, a traditional cheese pie with leaks and fennel. The best part of that dish was the hand made phyllo dough. So flaky and good. We moved on through the market, stopping to notice how people of Athens buy their food and other items. The tour through the fish and meat market was amazing. Calamari and Octopus. Fresh fish. The other section had amazing steaks and pork chops. If I wasn’t on holiday, I would have bought plenty! Another stop at a small snack shop where we tried the pink pistachio and the Loukoumi, a jelly type candy (we bought 3 boxes to take home). We then went down a side street and tasted some local wine with some small samplings of saganaki cheese, pita bread, tomato, cucumber, olive, and chicken meatball. After, we went across the street to olive heaven. So many different kinds of olives. Sample after sample. So good. We followed that with the very best (and I am not exaggerating) feta cheese I have ever tasted in my life. I will never forget it. We then went to the fruit market and saw all the local fruits and vegetables. Stopped into an olive oil shop and learned how to properly taste olive oil and know the quality of it. After, we went to a honey shop. You have to try the lavender honey! At that moment we decided that we needed to find a way to check in a bag so we could take home the delicious honey and pistachio butter. The last stop was at a small family owned restaurant. We had a small meal of butter beans, beef sausage, orzo, calamari. We also had ouzo and Greek coffee with some fresh cherries on the side. The food was great but the time spent with our guide felt like meeting a long lost cousin who was excited to show us her home town in Athens. What a great experience!

Footsteps of the ancients

In the foot steps of the ancients. Literally. Each person should bring fresh cold water. Vending machines available but long lines at the start. Refilling stations along the route. Great tour including knowledgeable guide. We had Janus who spoke clearly in English and made the ancient history interesting for teens and adults alike. He handles the crowds well and found us shade at every stop. Highly recommended to have a guide at this amazing site.

Athens is smaller than it looks

E bikes allow you to travel comfortably over the hills and Jim led an extensive and enjoyable tour. We rode high to the observatory for the best view of the acropolis and he made sure we got all the pictures we wanted. Peter we even got a song out of him (he’s an opera singer as well). Some streets are narrow and full of pedestrians but we got through ok. We added on the acropolis tour, which looked daunting at the start but Katarinab made sure we climbed in stages, finding shady spots and stopping for stories and insights along the way. We were on top before we knew it. Tours are great when the guides clearly enjoy leading and love their cities like this.

Great way to see the highlights
