Athens food tasting

Nickolita meet us at a plaza in Athens and took us to many food establishments around the area. We were served excellent food to eat and they gave us large amonts of food to taste. The portions were so large we always had food left over. Nickolita spoke perfect english and has a great personality. She was the perfect tour guide. It was a great experience.

Some of the best food we had in Athens! Do not eat ANYTHING before you go! We had leftover food at each stop. Our tour guide Charlotte was super nice! Interesting tidbits about ancient Athens, and no non stop deluge of information. It was like strolling through the city with a friend! This is the real deal!

I booked this last minute and I'm so glad I did, Evelina was a wonderful guide - friendly, informative and super keen to ensure we all had a good time. There were only 3 of us on our tour not including Evelina but the small group worked really well, we all got along well and had a great time trying out the different foods. My picks of the day were definitely the moussaka and the loukoumades with honey and cinnamon, mindblowingly delicious. I cannot recommend this tour enough, and even more so Evelina, who really helped make it a great day.

A great way to see the huge variety...

A great way to see the huge variety of fresh fish, meat, fruit and vegetables available in the Athens city markets. The two women who walked us around were interesting, informative and entertaining and gave us an insight into Athenian eating habits. In the oldest coffee shop in Athens we got to taste real coffee prepared in a tiny copper jug and heated in a bed of sand. After the markets we stopped for some delicious street food in a flat bun and at yet another stop a platter of cold meats and sausages, spinach pie, cheese pie, olives, cheeses, tomatoes and beer. We finished with a typical Greek dessert of fried doughnuts smothered with honey and almond praline served with ice-cream. The whole tour was about 3 hours and we had lots of time to savour the culinary delights. We had hoped to try Ouzo but this is no longer on the tour menu. Top marks to our guides.

This was a really fantastic experience. We started with traditional Greek coffee, toured several small shops, the large market, and stopped at three different places to sample local food. Nikoleta was a wonderful host and listened to our interests and adapted the tour accordingly. It was definitely the highlight of our trip!
