What are people saying about Akureyri

We were well looked after
It was a great tour. We later did a Diamond Tour too, so there was a bit of overlap. But we were very glad to have done this one too, to see some more points of interest around the Myvatn Lake, like the pseudocraters and the Dimmuborgir lava formations.
The tour was well organised, although we had to wait quite a long time for pick-up. That was because the cruise ship had moored away from the harbour, so tour passengers from there (we weren't on the ship) had to be brought to shore on a boat. I don't think The Traveling Viking could have done anything about it. They were very friendly and helpful when we rang them. They also communicated well before the tour, when they got in touch to discuss whether we wanted to go on the German or the English tour (we didn't mind, and were placed into the German one).
The tour guide was very good and gave us loads of information. We were puzzled because she occasionally struggled to find a German word but on the other hand had no accent whatsoever. It all made sense when she told us that she spent her early childhood in Germany but hadn't used her German much since then. The lack of an accent made it really easy to understand her, compared to other tour guides. We also felt that she looked after us exceptionally well, taking a lot of precautions to prevent loosing anybody or for anyone to get hurt (we were well warned of the dangers of the hot sulphur pits at Hverir!).

A very long day, so much...
A very long day, so much to see! Bring your own head net? (Little bug like flies) We were lucky it wasn't too bad as still a tiny bit of wind. Pick the washroom stop so you don't need to pay, there were 2 stops that washroom is free. But overall a very fun day!

This was a wonderful...
This was a wonderful experience, all of the communication on meeting spots and drop off points was very clear. The tour was fun and there were so many stories that were told along the way that it enhanced the driving portion of the tour. Even though the Christmas House was a tourist trap the driver acknowledged this in a fun way and I thought it was a great ending to our tour.

Met expectations, a good tour.
Great trip out to the waterfall. Waterfall was easily accessible. Nice to have a little coffee and snack. All in all, a well run tour. There were cheaper options (and more expensive ones) but I am glad we picked this tour. The tour guide was knowledgeable and nice and answered many questions.

Michael and Arnar
Michael was a fantastic tour guide. He provided lots of knowledge at each and every stop and even in between while headed to our next stop. He was easy to understand and very pleasant to talk with at the stops. Arnar, our bus driver was wonderful as well. He told us of some of the local customs and such. Aevar & Boas Dalvik bus lines was fantastic and very clean.

This tour was fantastic!...
This tour was fantastic! Our guide was so knowledgable and kept it fun for us. It was her birthday, and she even brought cake to share with us! She was so informative, so personable, and the tour was absolutely fantastic. Highlight of our time in Iceland!

Amazing experience!
Please make sure you have Kiersten as your guide! Thoroughly knowledgeable from top to bottom. Knew everything about anything. We were extremely lucky this day. Picture perfect postcard day. Not a cloud in the sky, so that helped. The waterfall was beautiful, the boiling pots were amazing. The Icelandic landscape makes you feel like you’re on another planet.
Downfall of course because it was a summer day, there were bus fulls, and two cruise ships in town, so all the sights were riddled with tourists,
But Kiersten was truly amazing! You can tell she loves her job, took time to talk to us individually, answer any questions we threw at her.
So great tour guide + great weather = great experience!

Fun-filled day of adventure.
This was a fantastic opportunity to see several beautiful sites all in the same day. Our tour guide did a great job of managing time and especially helping us avoid the large tour buses and crowds. She shared lots of interesting information and was very helpful throughout the day. We had a fun-filled day of Icelandic beauty followed by a relaxing soak in the Earth Lagoon.

Incredible landscapes
The tour is a good one for those arriving at the port of Akureyri . The pickup was seamless. Our visit to Lake Myvatn , where there are midges, gave us an opportunity to see the Earth Lagoon and a lunch break at the cafeteria there. We had the very delicious smoked trout on lava bread. The lava fields (sulfur) were amazing as was the landscape of the Dark Forest. It was also interesting to see the rift that divides Eurasia and North America. Our guide and driver were very good.

A fun day with a surprise
This was a great day despite the wind and rain. I was worried about finding the meeting location, but it was easy. There is a series of wooden ‘huts’ near the pier so it was just a matter of reading to find this tour group.
It turned out that it were part of a small group, so the driver/guide was able to show us some additional sites. The most unexpected was along the tunnel - he pulled over on the shoulder and we got out and went to a room that was excavated off the side. In it was an exhibit to show how the tunnel was constructed.
We stopped for lunch - not at Lake Myvatn. We didn’t go to the Lake/Lagoon itself, but saw it from the road. Not a problem - did I mention the wind and rain?
The weather eased up enough for us to spend some time at the continental divide/rift/cave.
This tour was worth the money we spent on it. It was a very interesting day and we were with a very small group of people. And it was significantly cheaper than a similar excursion available on our cruise.

Great trip with a great guide
Had a great time doing this whale watching excursion. We were lucky enough to see one whale breach and two whale tails. The breach happened so fast that nobody was able to get a picture of it, but it was still amazing to see it.
My only advice is to always be prepared to grab on to a handle bar or just hold on the entire time because once a whale is spotted, the captain will get that boat to it FAST. lol!

Great tour - over emphasized the boat discomfort
We had a great time whale watching on the rib boat. We saw 2 whales a humpback and a minkie. The boat captain and guide were so great!!!
I feel like they overemphasized the concerns with impact on the body from the boat ride. We were a little concerned about how they described it since my husband had a vertebra fusion 6 months ago. We had never been on a rib boat but we have been on multiple zodiacs. For us, it was no different from any other small boat ride.
This was a very dry boating experience. The suits are flotation suits not to keep you from getting wet like we have had on other whale watching trips.
