Surprisingly only my friends and I (4 of us) on the mini bus which gave us a bit more flexibility with the schedule. Lilian was a great guide and driver, very informative and knowledgeable. Enjoyed the Beautiful and dramatic landscapes in the autumn colours and the drive back via the mountain pass. Had a lovely lamb soup at our choice of restaurant (rather than busy scheduled stop). Lilian very accommodating with what we wanted and was lovely - sorry we couldn’t give her a tip as we had no cash

Small group tour of the area. Our guide grew up in the area and told stories of his youth. Godafoss is breathtaking. Dimmuborgir was fun to walk around and look at the lava formations. Well paced - didn’t feel rushed.

This tour would have been 5 stars except for the extremely annoying flies (midges) which affected 2 of the 4 stops. Many people were wearing netting over their faces which I assumed they purchased separately or were provided by their tour operator; however, The Traveling Viking, the operator under this Viator tour did not supply these, and it was very difficult to enjoy these 2 sites with the intensity of the flies. Fortunately, they didn’t seem to bite. Godafoss waterfall beautiful—and crowded as were all of the stops. The Skutustaoagigar crater area also lovely, but this is where the flies first showed up in mass. Next stop was the fascinating Dimmuborgir lava formations. Lots to see but annoying flies led to early retreat to the gift shop/cafe and back on the bus to escape the pesky flies. Final stop at the Namafjall Hverir geothermal area was outstanding, and NO flies and we had sufficient time to explore the area and take photos. Driver Oscar and guide Tina were very good. I would recommend this tour, but would suggest asking if flies expected on your dates of travel, and if so, will operator supply face netting. We were there 8/18/26.

Very good tour, except we did not stop at the cave with water pictured on the booking page. Not enough time to properly visit Godafoss falls.
Great driver and guide.

It was a great tour. We later did a Diamond Tour too, so there was a bit of overlap. But we were very glad to have done this one too, to see some more points of interest around the Myvatn Lake, like the pseudocraters and the Dimmuborgir lava formations.
The tour was well organised, although we had to wait quite a long time for pick-up. That was because the cruise ship had moored away from the harbour, so tour passengers from there (we weren't on the ship) had to be brought to shore on a boat. I don't think The Traveling Viking could have done anything about it. They were very friendly and helpful when we rang them. They also communicated well before the tour, when they got in touch to discuss whether we wanted to go on the German or the English tour (we didn't mind, and were placed into the German one).
The tour guide was very good and gave us loads of information. We were puzzled because she occasionally struggled to find a German word but on the other hand had no accent whatsoever. It all made sense when she told us that she spent her early childhood in Germany but hadn't used her German much since then. The lack of an accent made it really easy to understand her, compared to other tour guides. We also felt that she looked after us exceptionally well, taking a lot of precautions to prevent loosing anybody or for anyone to get hurt (we were well warned of the dangers of the hot sulphur pits at Hverir!).

Our tour was spectacular!! The sights were unlike any encountered in years of travel. Lily our guide clearly articulated directions , meeting points and times. On the ride into the mountains and back she told us stories, historical facts and even brought details of how native Icelanders live, eat and find entertainment. She is a gem.

Really enjoyed this trip , we got to see everything as detailed in the itinerary with extra short stops for photos , great driver and host , comfortable bus , would recommend . Be aware some of the stops charged for use of toilets and we found midge nets very useful

We booked this tour last minute when another tour company had to cancel and we were very pleased with the tour guide, itinerary and bus driver. Designed for cruise ship passengers - pickup and drop off was near the pier and return was carefully timed for our ship’s departure time. The itinerary covered all the highlights of the area. We especially enjoyed the Godafoss Falls and Dimmuborgir. Fortunately the midges (bugs) were minimal at Lake Myvatn because it was breezy and cool. We brought head net coverings but didn’t need to use them. There were enough midges that I can see how annoying they would be on a warmer, calm day. Guide was informative. Would recommend this tour. It was a much lower price than similar cruise ship excursions.

Great and friendly tourguide with alot of knowledge about the area. Enough time at every stop to enjoy the views and take some photographs.

Wonderful experience, we went to all the must see places and spent a good amount of time at each stop. Tour guide is friendly and knowledgeable, had a great time listening to some of the fun facts while enjoying the amazing scenery.

Our tour guide/driver was incredibly professional, especially at the volcanic rock area. He meticulously explained what each rock resembled, and his service was exceptionally attentive.

We were given the option when booking of 9am or 10am, so chose the 10am as we were on a late night Northern Lights tour the night before. At 9am on the day of the trip we had a call to ask where we were, to be told there was no 10am option! Luckily we were ready and our guide actually came to our apartment to pick us up! During the trip we heard a mention of thermal baths, but this wasnt on the trip we had booked, and we hadnt brought swimming gear! We purposely chose this trip for that reason as we had a trip booked for the Forest Lagoon the following day, so didn't want to do 2 'spa' trips. Our guide from 'The Travelling Viking' was very understanding and took photos of our booking and itinerary to feed back to Viator, as this was not the fault of her company. Due to this, we did find ourselves with 2 hours to fill at the Thermal Baths, so ended up buying coffee and a sandwich and spending the time in the cafe, along with a short walk around the area outside.
Aside from this, we dont want to take anything away from 'The Travelling Viking' as the day was amazing, our guide was fantastic, giving us lots of information and stories along the way. We went to the most amazing places and saw the most beautiful scenery we could ever imagine. A full day out and a magical experience.
10/10 for the travelling viking, the guide and the trip, 5/10 for viator. Viator need to make sure the time and the itinerary is updated, as we could easily have missed the trip if it wasnt for the guide, and we would have been extremely disappointed to have missed an amazing day out.

It was an amazing tour, Iceland as you would expect it! Our guide was fantastic, she talked about many things, also the life in Iceland, and stopped for example when we saw sheepherding and explained how they get the sheep together. I learned a lot about many different things!

For the most part, this was a nice tour. Unfortunately, I chose this particular tour to see two specific locations, and our guide skipped the location that I wanted to see the most. In their defense, I would imagine the reason for this was the extremely inconsiderate person in our group who went missing for 20 minutes and threw us off schedule for the rest of the day. So, that was outside of the tour guide's control.
That said, though... the stop we were supposed to make (Grjótagjá cave) was allotted only 20 minutes on the itinerary, and our guide made two extra stops (about 15 min each) that weren't on the itinerary at all. We also arrived back at our dropoff location a bit early. I appreciate that he showed us the extra stops, in an attempt to make up for the skipped location- that was very thoughtful of him. But with the extra time we apparently had, I really would have preferred to go to the location that was promised/advertised. Or, at the very least, I wish he had *informed* us that we would be skipping the cave. If he had, we would have had the option to not get back on the bus and find our own way to the cave. Instead, it did not become apparent to us that the cave was removed from the itinerary until we were already stuck on the bus leaving the area.
Another thing worth mentioning, is that there was a minor issue with the bus at one of the stops- and I was very impressed at the efficiency with which the guide/company fixed the issue. While we were exploring one of our stops, they contacted the company and we had a new bus already delivered and waiting for us by the time we made it back to the lot. The guide was pleasant, and I appreciated his commentary. We were given a lot of time to explore at each location, though I would have been okay being rushed if it meant we were able to go to all the stops on the itinerary.
So, thank you for the nice tour. I really did see some incredible sights, and I recognize that that is still a "win", at the end of the day. I am just really disappointed that I didn't get to see the place that I wanted to see most, and was not given a chance to rectify it before it was too late. I won't be able to afford to come back for a very long time, so it will just have to continue to remain on my bucket list for another several years.

We are sorry that your exsperience did not live up to your exspectations 100%. We aim to make our tours as special as possible and are happy that we could give you this day and that you were content with it.
Thank you for your honesty. The words of our customers matter while you are our quality control. Hopefully you will make your way back to Iceland ones more.

This trip was a great way to see a lot of Iceland beautiful scenery in one day.
Our driver, became guide and driver after the guide fell ill and did a great job.
We had a great day. The only thing I would mention is for the company to upgrade their description on Viator. They advertise as a small group tour and they are not.
Heidi_E, Sep 2025
The tour guide was fun an informative. We did this as a cruise excursion (not through expensive cruise ship). It was a fantastic way to the area. We saw lots of major sites and learned about Iceland from a local.
Patricia_H, Sep 2025
We paid extra to have a smaller group and the description showed up to 11. When we got on tour it was a big bus full of people. Did not see everything that was listed. Also was a little rushed.
Response from Host, Sep 2025
Good day
The prize is just one prize for the tour and you didnt pay extra for a smaller group, we simply dont offer that so that has never been an option. We offer this tour in a bus so people do feel better. 17 pax of people in a 19 seater car is not comfortable compared to 30 people in a 50 seater.
But we appologize if the tour didnt stand up to your hopes.

Our driver and tour guide Ingimundur booked using Aviator was awesome and made the trip more pleasurable and fun.

Great tour to get a taste of several sights in Akureyri., Didn't feel rushed, but don't expect to explore each extensively.
Richard_S, Jul 2025
We had a good time learning things about the Akureyri area. The tour guide was new, but she handled things well. The bus driver was knowledgeable and passed that information onto us visitors. The bus was not comfortable. It was too warm at times and the seats were very close to each other so I felt like my knees were always pushing on the seat in front of me.

Our bus driver and tour guide were fantastic! Highly recommend this tour! Our guides were entertaining and informative. We had 5 kids with us and the guides were so good to them!

My daughter and I booked this trip last minute and we’re so glad we did! Cannot recommend it highly enough. The trip went ahead even though it was just the two of us! And snowy -even leant us crampons! Our guide was fantastic talking to us all the time even on the journeys from place to place, pointing out interesting features and telling us about Icelandic traditions and ways of life! And the places we visited were stunning in the snow. would like to return in the summer to see the contrast, it’s such beautiful place and was a full day and fantastic trip.

Lilia, our guide was fantastic! She was very personable and easy to talk to. The information and folktales she shared were great and kept everyone entertained the entire tour.

This was a brilliant tour! The highlights for me were the cave and mud pools, I had never seen anything like it that. The Nature baths at the end were the best I've been to! Inga the guide was so informative and kind, and very well prepared! She loaned us spikes for our shoes so we wouldn't slip and used a shovel to clear the ice from the steps down to the cave, which was really appreciated 😄
