Itinerary

Your tour begins with pickup from your Vienna hotel, where you’ll board a climate-controlled vehicle destined for Durnstein, a charming village nestled between the vineyards of the Wachau Valley.

On a guided stroll of Durnstein, you’ll visit the shores of the Danube, see the ruins of the castle in which William the Lionheart was held captive, and browse shops selling chocolate and schnapps.

Stop next at Melk Abbey, a grand Benedictine abbey perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Danube, and admire its grand interior before returning to your vehicle and continuing the 3-hour journey to Český Krumlov.

Along the way, your guide directs your attention to particularly scenic spots and provides a historical overview of the Austrian and Czech regions you pass through.

On arrival in Český Krumlov, embark on a tour of the beautiful city’s UNESCO-listed landmarks: crowned by a magnificent castle and radiating from an elegant town square, the city is a visual feast and offers an abundance of historical monuments.

Following a full-day of sightseeing, return to your vehicle and relax during the 3-hour ride back to your Vienna hotel.

Wonderful Memories with Viator

Myoung_K, Apr 2026
This trip—which felt more like a private tour—left us with wonderful memories of the scenic Wachau Valley and the charming city of Český Krumlov. We are especially grateful to our driver, Emil, whose safe driving and clear English made our day trip incredibly comfortable. We would also like to express our sincere thanks to Viator for the invaluable assistance provided throughout our 10-day trip to Vienna. Thanks a lot!

Elena was awesome. She made sure we were well-taken care of, and was very knowledgeable. We really enjoyed the trip with her as our tour guide.

The Viator parner in Vienna forgot to arrange pick up at their meeting point. We spent one hour waiting in the rain waiting!! Unforgivable.

My wife and I had a good time on this tour as an alternative to the book up Wachau Valley/Melk/Rivercruise tour. We didn't want to miss seeing the Valley or the Melk Abbey and this seemed like a good backup plan. It turns out that this tour is brand new, and is a work in progress for the company. Vadim, our driver and guide picked us up from the hotel ON-TIME, and drove to the tour office to pick up a colleague, Elena, who wanted to join us to get familiar with the new tour yes, it was only my wife and me on the tour, and we had 2 guides to escort us. The tour wasn't really well defined by their bosses, so they had the opportunity to be creative and show us the things that we thought were important. Knowing that the trip to Cesky Krumlov would take us 6 hours both ways, we had to do the Durnstein and Wachau Valley rather quickly. First stop, Durnstein, to see a very charming village in the middle of vineyards and wineries. Saw the castle ruins, then the riverside vista point where the river cruise boats turned around, and a nice church. Next up, the Melk Abbey, and we quickly went through the abbey and took a peek inside the cathedral. Didn't have time to do a tour of the abbey, which was fine with us. Onward to Cesky Krumlov. Three hours later we arrived and was handed over to Esther, a very knowledgeable local guide. This was the highlight of our tour, as CK was a very photogenic, well preserved small town in the Czech Republic. The walking tour took about 1.5 hours and included the castle, a church, and a walk through most of the town. We then had time for a late lunch in the old town square. Afterwards, we walked back to the parking lot to meet up with the guides and take the 3 hour drive back to our hotel in Vienna. We had a good time, despite this being a new itinerary, it was a very long day of more than 13 hours. Cesky Krumlov is close to Prague, and it would be more practical to be visited from there instead of Vienna. Great guides!!!
