Itinerary

Kick off your tour with hotel pickup, where you’ll board an air-conditioned vehicle destined to delve into the Jewish heritage of Rio de Janeiro. Your first stop is Park Itzhak Rabin, founded by the prominent Israeli politician, which boasts privileged views of Botafogo Beach and Sugar Loaf Mountain.

Then, proceed to downtown Rio to see Chaim Weitzman Square and a school named after Anne Frank. The next stop is Museu Judaico do Rio de Janeiro, a Jewish museum whose artifacts speak eloquently of the city’s Jewish history.

The Jewish Grand Temple is a building as elaborate as its name suggests: spend a while admiring the inside of the structure with your guide.

Following this, head to Synagogue Shel Gmelut Hassidim and hear of its illustrious history. At your request, a visit to this synagogue can be replaced with a visit to Beth Yacov and Beit Lubavitch.

Your tour concludes with drop-off at your Rio hotel.

Insight into Jewish Rio

Our guide Ephraim was thoroughly knowledgeable about both historical and current Jewish affairs in Rio. He took us to places, including a fascinating little museum in a former law office, that we never would have found on our own. There was a great balance between leading us and letting us discover things on our own.

Efraim was a great tour guide. He included a comprehensive history of the Brazilian Jewish Community in his tour. We visited several synagogues, Kosher shop, JCC and Jewish museum. He and his driver were highly professional and enthusiastic.

My tour guides were fabulous. We went to the Holocaust Museum which was one of the most powerful experiences I’ve ever had. We went to the Clube Israelite Brasiliero which is a community center with a kosher grocery, synagogue and full gym and workout center. Of course there was Sugarloaf, Copacabana beach, Yitzhak Rabin Park and sculpture.

Our tour Ephraim and our driver turned up to collect my husband and myself spot on time. He spoke wonderful English and he made the tour very, very interesting. His knowledge of the history of the Jews of Rio was awesome and we visited so many places that we would never had seen if we hadn’t taken this tour. This tour is so well worth going on.

Efraim provided us with a thorough look at Rio’s Jewish community through site visits, stories and explanations. Among the many highlights were the Grand Synagogue and recently completed Holocaust Memorial-I have seen memorials throughout the world and this one was most impressive and meaningful. The tour is a must-do for people interested in exploring Jewish heritage. It was easy to book and covered a lot in a short time in a comfortable vehicle with a great driver. Thank you, Efraim, for an excellent tour.

Hello David, Thanks for your feedback. Sorry to hear you didn't have a good time during your tour. We took you to visit most of the meaningful places related to the Jewish community in Rio de Janeiro, unfortunately the community is not as big as you might had thought. As for the community centre that you mentioned, we couldn’t avoid visiting it because the Pharmacy that provides free medicines for those who is in need is located inside the mentioned community centre, and you wanted to see it. Also Donations, or Tzedaka in Hebrew, are a tradition within the Jewish people, but not an obligation. They are given voluntarily without any kind of pressure or constraint and the desire to help is a condition dictated by the heart of each one of us. Hope the rest of your trip was great. This tour was very informative. Exactly what we hoped for. Our tour guide Ephraim was great! Even before we got in the car, he sat down with us and gave a brief overview of the history of Jews in Brazil and what is the current status. We highly recommend this tour.
