The National park is beautiful. The one mile hike/walk to and from the waterfall was comfortable with various things to see. We stopped at a number of viewpoints. The many villages in the park were charming, some were very old and others appeared to be new. It is hard to capture the expanse and the beauty.

National park was beautiful. Two stops with hiking waterfalls and swimming and great picnic. Our guide Daniel was very knowledgeable and helpful.

The park is very beautiful and we were able to see a couple of very nice waterfalls. Our guide, Pedro, was really a great guy. Our picnic lunch was very nice. The unfortunate part was that we were four family members that hike often and we were put with two very elderly, not very mobile people. The guide did a great job trying to manage this situation, but we felt we missed out on some things.

It’s absolutely a great day trip. Besides the lovely scenery and gorgeous surrounding nature as one can see from many of the photos people posted, one of the most important contribution factor for its loveliness is our tour guide and driver Miguel. We had eight people from many different countries and a big age range. Miguel used his humor to bind us together quickly. Once we started tricking he constantly changed his pace to either go to the front or dropped to the back to take care of everyone in the group, and listen to their questions, comments, and concerns. Miguel took the safety of his guests as a top concern, so that we could have a lot of fun yet safely. He took everyone's interests into account, give us enough time to appreciate the beauty of this wonderful area. He also took us to visit some extra places which were not on our itinerary. Miguel volunteered to send me back to my hotel which was not on the pickup and drop off list. I owe many many thanks to Miguel.
The design of this itinerary itself is very good. To me the hiking trails were easy to moderate. The surrounding was just gorgeous. The lunch at a local restaurant was another highlight. Those locally produced cheeses, sausages, drinks, and fresh vegetables were just delicious. And the location was very nice as well.
If one is visiting Porto, if one loves nature, please do this day trip. I highly recommend it.

Was a wonderful trip even though I it rained. Rosário was attentive to everyone’s needs, informative and fun. We saw some amazing viewpoints. Lunch was very tasty

This was one the highlights of our 10 day trip to Portugal! Teresa was so much fun, extremely knowledgeable and ran a fabulous day trip! We saw a few different water falls, ate a great lunch in a very small village in the mountains of the national park. This trip would not have been the same without Teresa! Our group was also so great and we even made a friend that ended up coming on a tour with us the next day and for drinks in Porto! Cannot recommend this day more if you are looking for a unique experience that you might not otherwise get to do. We got back a little later than expected around 20:00 (8pm) but we loved every minute of the trip. You should bring a bathingsuit for optional swimming in the waterfalls because even though the water was cold, (it was still early in the season) it was well worth it and a once in a lifetime experience.

It is an excellent full day tour from Porto, that is not to be missed. Carlos from Detours was our guide for the day.
He was on time to pick up, full of information about Portugal, Porto and the Geres NP. An extremely enthusiastic guide who was such fun to be with.
It is one of the best Day trips I have ever done. Excellent value for money. The choice of restaurant for lunch was also excellent. In fact, it had it all. You need to fairly fit to be able to get to all the view points.

Bea was a great tour guide! The weather was unfortunately raining for part of the day, but she made the best of it.

Lovely trip that gives a flavour of what the park has to offer. Well organised, good communication and friendly, helpful staff.

This was by far the best tour I’ve ever done!!!! Our tour guide Maia (apologies if I got the name wrong) was incredible - he was so knowledgeable and made our day the best ever and fostered the best vibes. Totally recommend if you’re looking for a tour off the beaten path!

We went on an all-day tour to Geres National Park. It was early November, so temperatures were a bit cool and breezy, and the picnic portion of the tour was converted to a delicious afternoon lunch at a local restaurant affiliated with a Bed and Breakfast. Initially we were greeted at the hotel by our tour guide, Daniel, and we traveled through Braga and on towards our destination. Daniel was very friendly, completely fluent in English, and very knowledgeable about the local history, current information on the area, and lots of information about the geography and natural environment. Once at the park we took a short easy hike to the waterfall there. There are several dozen stairs to the falls overlook, but Daniel was patient with us, and since one in our party was fluent in Portuguese, they had a few fun-spirited conversations, and we were all very at ease with Daniel. Daniel stopped at several beautiful overlooks for us to take pictures and was very willing to do just about anything we requested in order to give us a full experience. We had a lot of fun and laughs along the way. Daniel was also careful to include comfort stops for restrooms and beverages as needed. Throughout the day we stopped for coffee in the morning, stopped for beer at a little pub in the tiny village of Lombadinha, in the national park, and viewed the historical sights there. We enjoyed spending time meeting a few of the locals and seeing their simple way of life. Afterward, we were treated to a wonderful late lunch (included) at Casa Criado. The spread was huge! We sampled many local foods and traditional specialties served family style, as well as local wines. I guarantee you no one went hungry. There were foods available for everyone, plenty of vegetable dishes as well as several items for the carnivores among us. We were very happy with the meal and the welcoming personalities of the hosts. We felt like family. On the way home we made a comfort stop at another village called Sao Bento and had some refreshments before the trip back to our hotel. It was a wonderful way to start our vacation in the Douro river area. I cannot say enough about how wonderful Daniel was as a guide. He made the day fun and adapted it to our interests without any hesitation. Toward the end of the tour, he mentioned that our day with him didn't even feel like work, and we had to agree. It was so comfortable and easy, like touring with one of our own friends or relatives. I recommend this tour to anyone with a desire to get out of the cities and see the countryside, enjoy historical sites and enjoy Portugal's only national park. Ask for Daniel as your guide and I know you will have a great day.

There is a lot of flexibility in where you go and stop, which was nice. The meal is a full sit-down affair in a village restaurant, which was wonderful. I was expecting a boxed lunch. Pedro, our tour guide, was great. There were several stops, some with short walks to scenic places and viewpoints. It was a 3-hr drive to the first site on the tour. Had I known that would be the case I might not have signed up. Before we'd seen anything I felt like half the day was gone. That was the only bad part of the trip. We had stopped at a cafe along the way, which was nice, but I would have preferred skipping that so that we weren't driving for so long.

Pedro Raphaello was simply the best! I had such a great time and Pedro really made the trip amazing. He was so knowledgable, good fun, and knows all the spots. We even crossed over into Spain and went in the naturally heated thermal waters.
Thanks for such a great trip Pedro! Ali

The weather was awful, but Miguel was great and came up with a wonderful plan-B. Miguel was wonderful, caring, and knowledgeable. We truely enjoy our time despite the weather which no one can control.
RossKoenig, Oct 2025
Very small group (just 3 of us), so it was a lot of personal attention. Our guide, Andre, was terrific. Took us to a swimming area with absolutely no one else there--very cool.
Marti_K, Sep 2025
A very enjoyable day!
Pedro was an excellent driver with a fun personality.
Also full of knowledge.
Many memorable adventures!
If you enjoy nature you will love this day trip.
We truly enjoyed our day with Pedro.

We went on a full day trip to Gere's national park with Teresa. She looked after us so well. The whole trip was adventurous and rewarding. We swam in a green lake and in a water fall. It involves rock climbing on steep hills so not advised for people with mobility issues. Teresa is very knowledgeable and caring. She lookes after everyone and checked on everyone to make sure everyone was safe and happy. The trip itself was great and Teresa just made it even better. BTW the picnic was delicious!
Tina_S, May 2025
Comfortable journey with lovely views. Comfort stops included. Beautiful waterfalls and opportunity to take photos & to paddle. Lunch was absolutely delicious we couldn’t have asked for better. LPetito was a great guide friendly and informative
Tom_M, Apr 2025
Pedro was a wonderful guide, knowledgeable and thoughtful, and an excellent driver on the many winding roads on which we traveled. Every stop we made was interesting, and the landscape was amazing. Our small group (eight guests and our driver/guide) learned a lot about each other over the 10 or so hours we were together, and Pedro was a big part of that as he conversed with each guest. By the end of the day, we felt like a group of friends having a great adventure together. Although I would have liked more hiking, this trip was a great introduction, and I expect I will be back for a more in-depth exploration of the National Park.
richard_c, Apr 2025
Really helpful guide who knew the area particularly well. People in the back of the van had difficulty hearing so suggest some form of speaker system.
Valentina_C, Apr 2025
Our guide Pedro Almeida showed us the beaty of Gerês from the perspective of real lover of its nature. Lunch was domestic and tasty in family atmosphere. We had oportunity to enjoy in nature alone. In some places there were no other visitors at all.
Natalie_L, Jan 2025
Our tour guide was Hernan and he was great! He was very knowledgeable about the area, giving lots of info during the drive, and he was familiar with the locals. We even got some homemade limoncello!
Unfortunately there was bad weather in the morning that made the trails too muddy and slippery to use, but Hernan drove us to some beautiful lookout spots so we could still make the most of the day.
The restaurant for lunch had pretty standard good food, but didn't have a lot of options for dietary restrictions and the glass I received was dirty.

Pedro is an outstanding tour guide with incredible knowledge of the local history and geography. He made the experience engaging and memorable, and I especially enjoyed our lively conversation about football during the ride. The Peneda-Gerês National Park is breathtaking, and Pedro ensured we visited some of the most stunning viewpoints. It was an unforgettable adventure, and I highly recommend exploring with Detours!

Great Tour guide. All of the locations are beautiful and highly recommend. Bring good Hiking or track shoes for the hikes.

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour of the Peneda Geres National Park! The phenomenal views, gorgeous waterfalls and a delicious local meal made this a great experience. Our tour guide Francisco was very friendly and had great knowledge of the area. I highly recommend this tour to anybody that enjoys being in nature!
Mark_L, Oct 2024
The overall trip turned out to be great. We ate a local restaurant that was ran out of someone’s home. You’re local vilage and stopped at multiple vistas. No waterfalls or hikes like we were expecting as it is considered the “winter” tour now.
Sam_D, Oct 2024
João and Herman were so much fun as guides. They were fun and funny, providing excellent service and so much information about the park and areas. They were attentive and added so much extra value
We got to experience so many vistas throughout the park. We were treated to an incredible meal made fresh and sourced locally. Our final stop was at Fafião, where they host a wolf festival, and we got to speak to the curator of the eco-museum before walking around the village and seeing an actual wolf trap
This is a tour I would take again
