Our host, Joao was ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. I cannot say enough about him. He took us to traditional places and gave us a wide variety of Portuguese food. Soup, amazing, green wine-delicious, bafana-the best, sardines-very good (I even bought three cans to bring home)... and a couple of very "traditional" Portuguese dishes that I could not get enough off. Did I say wine a second time? Oh and a Super Bock!!!!

My wife and I have done tours in other countries with various tour guides, and let me just say that João provided the best experience we have had thus far!
The food was exceptional, and we got exposed to several traditional dishes that we wouldn’t have ordered otherwise (and would have missed out on)! However, more than the food, the history lesson and stories behind the city/places/food we tried was the REAL experience! João is a local, university trained historian and it definitely shows! We will be enjoying our time in the city much more than we would have without this tour! Would recommend everyone start their journey in Porto with this tour!

This tour was excellent! Carlota, our guide, took us to 5 different stops and all had delicious food and drinks. Carlota is a Porto native, so she curated stops where locals go, and knew all the owners and staff. She also shared a lot of Porto’s history, some of which lends itself to the food. We would totally do this tour with Carlota again, and think you should too!

By all means, book this tour on your first or second day in Porto! Jaoa was one of the best guides we have had. Took us to places we never would have stopped at and tried so many things we would never have tried on our own. In addition to the food and wine, his knowledge of Porto and it's history really enhanced the tour.

He took us to places that we never would have found on our own and exposed us to delicious cultural specialties that we would not have known about otherwise. Omg João, our guide was amazing. We were 7 all family and he treated us like his family. He provided us with so much richness and history behind the places and foods we ate. His passion for his job was amazing and it showed. He provided us with a personalized experience enriched with love for the Portuguese culture. He takes you off the beaten path and into the world of Portuguese food. There was something for all. He made sure that any allergies or food issues were taken into consideration. The wines were an amazing variety home grown to Portugal. So much flavour. There were drinks for kids as well.
We did a tour in Lisbon a few days later and let me tell you it was disappointing compared to what João offered us. I would go back for his food tour any day. He was so memorable and made the four hours feel like you were in his home enjoying food and drinks with those you love.

We had the most amazing day with João, who introduced us to local restaurants and shared centuries worth of history throughout the day. We were a group of 7 from age 10-55 and it was enjoyable for everyone.
We would highly recommend this tour if you want to try local dishes and learn about Porto’s culture and traditions.

If you’d like to explore and experience Portugal or Porto’s food and wine couture, combined with a little local history, this food tour is the one for you. We (my son and I) had João as our guide and he took us through a 3 1/2 - 4 hour journey/tour of fantastic spots to sample different food and wines of Portugal. The group was small - 6, so the entire time it felt very intimate and personal, as if it was catered just for me. Over the course of the tour, we visited 5 different restaurants, each one different from the next. Each one with distinct flavors and ambiance. We also enjoyed meeting and comparing our travel experiences with other members of the tour. This food and wine tour is “a must!.” experience.

Arrive hungry and ready to be surprised! Joao has knowledge about traditional foods and some history of Porto not found in common tour guides or history books! He is extremely knowledgeable. This was a delightful history and food lesson off the beaten path. We loved every minute! Also, João deliberately keeps his groups to 10 or less- perfect for getting all your questions answered.

It is a very intimate and personal experience with Juan or his wife giving the tour. It is absolutely one of the best experiences that you can have from the inside! You are not going to get the typical tourist food and wine on this adventure but rather a very local experience which is invaluable!

We had the most amazing tour with Joao, loved the places we visited and the food we sampled. Along the way we learnt a lot about the history of Porto and its traditional food, it was great way to experience the real Porto. Would definitely recommend this tour if you want a more personal experience.

We didn’t sample the traditional tourist things but instead sampled the traditional food that the locals eat. It was fantastic. André was so interesting and very easy to talk to. Would recommend this tour especially if Andre is your guide
