Once aboard your coach, relax on the journey south to the Campania region and look out for sights such as the Abbey of Montecassino. The Benedictine monastery is a dramatic sight, perched on top of a hill in the rocky Castelli Romani area.
Leave the city by coach and travel further south toward Mt Vesuvius. Pass towns such as Ercolano—home to the ancient site of Herculaneum —as well as Torre del Greco, and Torre Annunziata. Stop in Pompeii for lunch at a local restaurant, and then visit Pompeii’s UNESCO-listed ruins on a guided tour.
Hear how the city lay buried under a sea of volcanic ash from Mt. Vesuvius as you admire the excavations of monuments such as the 5,000-seater Teatro Grande.
Finally, return to your coach and relax on your journey back to Rome. Your tour finishes with a drop-off in Rome.

Very hard to differentiate between the best parts. Fantastic experience all round. Walking up Vesuvius was incredible and gave a different perspective of what happened.
The only suggestion for improvement is to provide clearer advice on the lunch menu options, especially important for people with allergies to seafood.

Pompeii was one of my most anticipated and favorite parts of our whole trip, but a lot of things about their tour could have been streamlined. We wasted hours of he day, with very minimal time off the bus, because of how the day was scheduled and sharing a duel-language guide.
Pros: comfortable bus, sufficient stops for bathroom/coffee, the Pompeii tour itself was amazing.
Cons: half our group was going to Capri, so we had to sit in very heavy Naples traffic to drop them off. The “panoramic tour of Naples” was essentially learning a bit here and there while sitting in the same traffic. It added very little of interest to the day. And after Pompeii, was had to sit in this same traffic again to pick them up.
After Naples, we stopped at a coral/cameo factory. Although it was cool to see how it was done, it was all extremely expensive, unexpected, and felt very tourist-trappy. Again, wasted time I would’ve spent elsewhere. I didn’t book a Pompeii trip to buy cameos, and yet I had much more opportunity to do this than spend time around Pompeii.
Communication and setting expectations in general could be much better- our guide didn’t tell us we were having a long multi-course lunch, didn’t tell the tour group where to meet the bus at multiple stops.
Throughout the day, there were two languages needed for our tour group. This was fine on the bus- however in Pompeii, it meant our guide had to say everything twice before moving on. I can only imagine how much more we may have seen (Pompeii is HUGE) if we didn’t spend twice as much time on explanations as other groups. Our guide was great otherwise!

Fantastic place to visit (pompeii), great guide. Showed us the ruins and had a high level of knowledge about the place. Due to bad weather we couldnt see to much of Naples. The lunch restarount was a dissaster, try to avoid it. No charm and not much taste in the food.

We started out in Rome with a great guide. In Nopales the guilds changed to Guido who’s English and Spanish was not comprehensible his choice of words lack of vocabulary made it very difficult to understand. We booked and English speaking tour but it was also translated into spanish. This was unfair to both languages because if we could have understood our guild we missed out on half a tours worth of information because it was beings translated to another language. The
tour was pointless because we could not understand what he was saying in either language. It would have been better to get the audio guild from Pompei and go at our own pace. We also made wasted a lot time driving around Napoles with Guido not understand what we were seeing or why. The weird stop the Jewlery store was much less of a demonstration on the traditional craftsmanship then a sales opportunity with less then personable sales staff. This was an 13 hour waste of time and money, we missed out really learning the fascinating history of Naples and Pompei! I only hope we have the opportunity to return to Italy to try again.

An absolutely wonderful trip and everything you'd expect! Fascinating and emotional all in one. Long trip from Rome but worth it. Lunch was great and bus comfortable. The only draw back to the excursion was the "bus tour of Naples." You can't really see anything from a moving bus and it left us with a very bad impression of Naples. Trashy, congested, dirty...not, I'm sure what Naples would want. Next time, go to the museum so people can see more Pompeii artifacts.
Lora_B, Oct 2019
We were traveling or waiting for the people who had gone to Capri for 10 out of the 12 hours were on the tour. The lunch was good but the walk to the restaurant was very far. The cameo shop was a waste of time. The actual 2 hours in Pompeii were fine and our guide was really good.
Kathryne F, Sep 2019
Tour was suppose to be in English but was translated to multiple languages, which made a very slow tour in the heat, insufficient shade in these areas. Not enough free time at the end to explore the amphitheatre, brothel and the house that still had people.
Karol_J, Jul 2019
While I'm glad we did the tour, it was confusing that the bus guide was expected to say everything in 2 languages even though we were told it was an English speaking tour. The older gentleman who led the actual Pompeii tour was great even in the intense heat. Tight squeeze going back to Rome as we picked up additional passengers. VERY long day.

We started at 7:30 am and didn’t get dropped off till 9:30 pm. They put two group together on one bus and had to drop off first group at water , then we went to Restaurant & Pompeii. We stopped and had lunch, food was terrible and service rude. Then went to Pompeii. Guide was old hard to understand plus we had to hear tour in English and Spanish. Then we had to go back to pick up people we dropped off at Marina and they added more people on bus. Bus was packed and air conditioning was not cold. They had to switch bus drivers because time frame was so long. Greenline bus tours was terrible. The only nice thing to say we thought bus drivers drove amazing in the tight streets n hills.

We loved our visit to Pompei! The lunch was fantastic and the tour guide was very engaging. The bus tour around Naples was nice but hard to see everything from the bus. We didn’t think the visit to the cameo factory was necessary as not much information was given.

So happy that I was able to see the ruins, however, the tour wasn't too good. It was hard to understand the guide with his italian accent so if you are an english speaker I wouldn't recommend this one. The trip around Naples wasn't that well done either. Again, I couldn't really understand what he was say. It was raining so that probably didn't help either. Overall, I was happy to see Pompeii and the staff was really nice but if you are looking to learn and have a guide where you can ask anything question you would like, then this one is not for you.

Let me start by saying Rome Italy is a DIRTY CITY with Graffiti everywhere and trash. Not recommended to visit by us we will never go back. Now for the trip . The tour would not pick us up at the hotel, they said the hotel is out of there boundary area, so we had to take a taxi $20 euros to the tour office. The tour guide Female ( I never got her name) was terrible over the intercom on the bus nobody could understand what she was saying. while riding on the bus. We didn't know the bus was dropping off folks to take a ferry to Capri. just an unexpected stop but we also picked up another tour guide for the trip to Pompei. The tour in Pompei was fantastic a must see and do. The tour only covers only a small portion of the old city, I'm sure it would take all day to view the entire city or even two days and no rushing. After leaving the bus had to back to Naples to pickup those who went over to Capri, we sat on the bus for almost a hour waiting for those folks to get back. No water of food ( unless you brought your own) while sitting the whole time. Not Good. Once everyone was back on the bus the tour guide had the bus driver drive through the middle of town at rush hour, needless to say we were in stop and go traffic for another 45 minutes be getting out of Naples. Naples is another dirty city next to the ocean I wouldn't want to live there but that's me. The tour guide asked us where our hotel was so she could let the bus driver know where to drop us off at hotel, well this NEVER happened, they dropped us off at one of there tour offices. I asked if the office was open The tour guide said yes it was, Nope wrong again, we were stuck somewhere where we had no idea where we were, and at almost 10 pm at night. We walked around the corner and thankfully there was a hotel open ( everything else was closed because it was a Sunday and at night) so we could asked if they could call a taxi for us. They were very nice and they called a taxi for us, another $20 in Euros. I would NEVER recommend this tour to anybody .

The sights of Naples was included so that they could drop another group off. The part of Naples we saw was hideous. We were told we would have 2 hours in Pompeii and an hour to shop. Guido, our guide rushed us through the city. No time to take pictures or to soak in the history. Moving quickly on the uneven ground meant we had to keep our eyes on the ground to avoid falling. We finished in the city in 90 Minutes. He could have slowed down and still we would have had time to see everything. His English was very difficult to understand. Pompeii itself was amazing. They have done a lot of work on excavation and reconstruction. So great location not a great tour or guide.
Andrea_R, Apr 2019
Overall I enjoyed the tour - I had been wanting to see Pompeii for years, just a little disappointed in the amount of time we spent in Pompeii - and we got no free time within the ruins. Also, I thought it was an English tour but it was English and Spanish and there were only 6 of us who spoke English and towards the end it seemed like the guide was only speaking Spanish. We was a nice guide and very knowledgeable but at times very quiet and hard to hear/understand - but that may have been my headset as there was a lot of interference. We shared a coach with another group that we had to meet back up with in Naples on the way home and their group was over an hour late coming back. We had to sit in the coach for an hour and the driver didn't even tell us what was going on or an updated wait time or anything.

Great trip, tour guide very knowledgeable, lunch was very good, would have given 5 stars except for the stop at the cameo store.
BT203, Dec 2018
The place was great although the trip there was a little long at 3 hrs each way. The local guide in Pompeii started off on a good note but when it started to rain quite heavily at one stage, he insisted on continuing the walk in the rain. When most of the participants took shelter under some of the ruins, he got upset and decided to end the tour. He led us back to the museum area and gave us some instructions to return to the exit ourselves. He also forgot to pick up some of the other participants that were left behind.I felt that it was a very bad ending to the tour and his attitude was very unprofessional. He seem to have no regard for the needs of his customers. There was no instructions as to where and when we should meet our bus guide and we could almost have missed our coach returning to Rome as we could not find our bus guide at first. We gave feedback to the bus guide but she mentioned that there was nothing much she could do. In addition the lunch quality was below average and we were not warned about having to tip the singer during the lunch.

Nice to get picked up at hotel. Tour guide was OK - nothing special.
Lunch was way too long. It was our worse meal in Italy. Sandwich and soft drinks would have been fine and less time consuming.
The escort D wasn't very patient with an elderly couple. When we stopped, they couldn't see their hotel from the bus. He could have been more diplomatic with them. He's got to remember that everything is different and new for us tourists in Rome - and it was very dark.
The sequence of our drop off was announced, but then changed when a bunch of Spaniards complained.
Bus was clean, seats tight but overall comfortable.

One the best package, worth every single penny. Having this tour is a must have when visiting Italy.Loved it!

A Great Day tour to Pompeii Definitely a must see! The only thing i would say is that i wish we had more time to explore Pompeii we had a whole day trip from Rome , so we had a couple stops , one being in Naples, but we only had a few hours at the ruins of Pompeii and didn't get to see everything.
Virgil N, Jul 2018
The green line tour guide that handled everything except Pompeii was good . Pompeii was an exceptional historic site and was very interesting. The tour guide thru Pompeii was awful. It was suppose to be an English tour but he spoke very poor English and then it was combined with Spanish which is what he used most of the time. not worth the cost it was a self tour so we were over charged
Rebecca I, Jul 2018
Short but excellent time in Pompeii. Enough shade that even in 90 degree summer heat it was doable. The bay of Naples is beautiful. At the end of the day, a group spending the night in Sorrento departed on a separate van and we went back to the city. Wish I could have gone with them, haha. I wish the tour would stop for photo op with all of the sunflower fields you end up driving by. They offered drop offs on the way back which saved us metro fare. I appreciated it! We bought a much needed coffee at the early morning meeting spot. A long day but well worth it.

Pompeii was amazing the tour experience was not. It is a bus tour through Napoli. The guide manager was difficult to understand in both english and spanish. During the bus tour they local guide would point out features, however, if you are not in the front of the bus you can not see what she is referring too. We were not given time to walk around Napoli. The lunch was a horrible experience. The guides even warned people not to order the fish. Service was slow. Once I received my food they were busing all the tables. The pizza was burnt and the dish was horrible. Majority of people left their plates. I had gone on several tours during this trip and I have never had a horrible experience like this.....Pompeii is amazing. The local guide did a good job showing us the site. I recommend seeing the archeological site. however, this tour combo...I would find another.
CHARLES_D, Jul 2018
The trip was excellent from pick-up to drop off. I came to this day trip with considerable knowledge of Pompeii and archeology. I was impressed by the breadth and scope of our guides knowledge. I would recommend this excursion to all of my friends.
Sandy_D, Jul 2018
The tour was not good , we went to Naples never left the bus, just drove around and then picked up another guide who was so anoying, we were taken to a Cameo Carving store , wasted one hour here. The restaurant for lunch was not good, a lot of people left the plates full since it was not good, when we finally got to Pompeii the guide wouldnt shut up, as soon as we went in the side I left the tour, I had been here before so I took my Grandson with me and walked were ever we wanted. This was the most terrible tour I have ever taken and at this vacation I did at least eight.
Cesar C, Jul 2018
This tour was a great experience. The short tour through Napoli leaves us with the desire for more of it but the Pompei tour compensates all of it. We made several friends in the bus (recommended). Our Pompei guide was Nandio and though old he managed us very well and was fun and entertaining.
George_G, Jul 2018
The lunch provided was very good! At times it was difficult to follow the guide as the tour was bilingual. We wish there was more time for shopping at Pompei. All in all a very good tour and very educational.
Soumya G, Jun 2018
Great, knowledgeable guide, good lunch and amazing Pompeii. The only reason I have taken 2 stars off is the added tour of Naples. They just drove the bus through Naples without stopping anywhere which was a shame. Instead, they stopped at an useless factory where expensive ornaments are made out of seashells. Also it is better to sit on the right hand side of the bus to enjoy better views of Naples. Previously, we have taken a viator trip in UK to Stonehenge and Bath and liked it a lot.
Alternatively, one can take a direct train from Rome to Naples and another train from Naples to Pompeii. We did not want to do that because it would have been more hectic and would have required more planning. The ruined city of Pompeii is breathtaking and I think one should visit it at least once.
rosalesc111, Jun 2018
This was a great tour and the lunch was also great. I didn't like having to stop at the place to sell us alchohol and trinkets.
Jeffery_P, Apr 2018
Being picked up at the hotel was great! Our driver, Salvatore was texting while driving in the rain from Rome to Naples. After saying something to him, he stopped. We picked up our tour guide, Guido in Naples and he was good. As we were on a multilingual tour, we had to keep our questions limited as he was going from one language to another. I should have chosen an all English tour. In Pompeii, the tour included lunch, so we ate at a local restaurant. It was fantastic! They had a guitarist singing to the tourists, Italian songs which we would know and the waiters were so nice. The service and food was that of a 5 star restaurant . The tour brought us to a Cameo factory which was lovely as well as to a Limoncello bar/store. The male bartender at Limoncello bar/store had lost his patience with tourists by the time our bus pulled in he was rude and not welcoming. I ordered a hot coffee and got a cool one, I mentioned that to him and he chewed my head off. Then the cashier chimed in and I felt that it was me against them. Needless to say, the person with the purse pulls the strings, I finished my coffee and didn't buy their Best Limoncello in all of Italy Upon returning to my bus, I did notice that the bartender had a row of pre-made espresso in coffee cups. This bartender was clearly better off working at a local Italian bar/store then a tourist bar/store as he didn't care for tourists. Instead of stopping at these two locales, I would have preferred getting off the bus in Naples for an hour or two and having a gelato or a pizza in Naples, instead of just driving through the city center. David, a representative of Green Line Tours, was boring but nice. He didn't say much about anything, his personality was a bit flat.
