This was a great tour! Ferdinand was an excellent guild! He was very knowledgeable and it was so much fun to learn about the history of not only the food but the markets and the people who run them. He had great recommendations as well. I feel like I'll be telling stories from this tour for a long time!

This was a great tour! Ferdinand was an excellent guild! He was very knowledgeable and it was so much fun to learn about the history of not only the food but the markets and the people who run them. He had great recommendations as well. I feel like I'll be telling stories from this tour for a long time!

What a wonderful introduction to Osaka. Thomas was knowledgeable, passionate and enthusiastic about Japan and the markets and food of Osaka. We toured a range of food markets from local, Korean and more touristy markets. Thomas went out of his way to tailor our adventure for our children who were interested in moochi and gaming!!

We loved learning about the culture of Osaka through the visit of markets. We would definitely recommend this to all. Beware - you will be doing a lot of walking - but it's worth it.

This was an excellent tour. My partner and I learned so much about food culture and history in Osaka. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgable. He was able to expertly answer the many questions we asked him. I don't understand some of the more negative reviews of this not being a food tour: it is what you make of it. At any point you can stop and purchase food at any of the markets you're in. I certainly did.

Guide Lito was terrific and happy to cater tour to our needs and timetable. Very knowledgable and seemed to enjoy himself as much as we did! Saw a range of food markets in Osaka and were able to buy and sample amazing foods and also other food related products.

Expensive for what it is, as no food or transportation are included in the price. You’ll see tons of markets and food stalls, plus learn the history. Expect to also visit some grocery stores to see how locals shop. Though we enjoyed it, it’s not a must-do.

Thank you for your valuable feedback. While this tour may not be our top recommendation for general visitors to Osaka, especially those with limited time, it offers a deep dive into Osaka's renowned foodie scene for enthusiasts.
Two clarification points: Street eating isn't a common practice in Japan, although it's sometimes seen in touristy areas. Our tour focuses on authentic experiences rather than walk-and-graze activities, although there are opportunities to purchase food along the way. Transportation costs (around 400 yen for the entire tour) are not included as they can be covered by a JR Pass.

Ferdinand was extremely well versed in cuisines in many cultures as a result of his culinary training and experience. He was perfect for leading us through markets, identifying specialties, dishes/knives and talking about foods and their evolution in Japan. The Korean section also gave us a glimpse of history and ending in the high end ‘market’ was superb!

This was a great tour…you learn about Japanese cuisine, the different cultural influences and you also learn a lot out the city of Osaka. Damian was a great guide…very knowledgeable, answered all our questions and was very patient as we shopped around and stopped for many photo ops…lol. Highly recommend this tour.

Our guide has a wide range of knowledge of local markets and foods, and it was interesting to hear it from a non-local (but lived in Japan for many years), as he would have the same perspective as a non-Japanese. He certainly gave an insight to many different types of markets!
NOTE: it is NOT a food eating tour, as there was no food tasting/ eating included when we did the tour, which was puzzling, as it was mentioned in the tour description. We left feeling a bit hungry, wanting and expecting some food. It would have been nice to include some food; it is a food tour, after all!

Thank you for your review. The tour nowhere states that food samples are included. You are brought to areas where you can purchase food if you like. It's not a food tour per se, but rather a markets tour.

This walking tour requires some stamina. The experience was amazing, fresh food, clean, efficient & a great insight into the local food scene. A stop was made for breakfast in a recommended Osaka eatery. The tour finished with a cool ale in a wonderfully air-conditioned & modern restaurant (36c outside). Our guide Oshi was excellent, pleasant & knowledgeable.
I highly recommend this tour to anyone that wants to see the real Osaka behind the scenes food ingredients experience.
