What a gem! Herculaneum is not to be missed if you want to see a well preserved city over 2000 years old. Luciano was a very knowledgeable and interesting tour guide/archaeologist and we highly recommend this tour.

A wonderful tour of the most preserved ruins of a seaside Roman resort town of the first century that was destroyed in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The archeologists have provided the excavated ruins and our guide, Mena, provided an interesting, knowledgeable, and entertaining tour that put a human face on the impressively preserved houses, stores, and public baths.

Roberta was lovely and knowledgeable. We enjoyed our tour very much but she is not actually an archeologist. I would not have paid so much for a private tour with an excellent tour guide (who I she is). So I recommend Roberta as a guide but I do not recommend booking the “tour with an archeologist.”

It’s almost magical to walk the streets of this 2000 year old city. With Michele, an archeologist, as our guide, we learned in great detail, the everyday life of these ancient citizens. I highly recommend a guide, as he unlocks secrets that you’d never imagine. Michele Lamberti made the excavated city come alive!

My tour with Sara was excellent. I highly recommend this offer. My professor/guide, Sara had a deep knowledge of the site. I have some knowledge of late Roman history but less of the early period. She was able to explain the site to me at the high level and basic level. Excellent experience. If you visit in summer take the early tour as I did. By noon it is very hot. Great experience. Five stars.

Our Herculaneum tour was one of the best parts of our trip, thanks to our amazing and knowledgeable tour guide, Dr. Luciano Leone. We love historical tours and he's the best guide we've ever had. Luciano made the tour educational, exciting, and fun - we felt like we went back into history.
We'd highly recommend Luciano for anyone visiting Herculaneum or Pompeii -- he was the highlight of our tour and we left with a deeper appreciation of the place and history. Thank you for a wonderful time!

We had a wonderful private tour of Herculaneum with tour guide Sara. She is an archaeologist with a deep knowledge of both Herculaneum and Pompeii and a clear love and passion for these awesome ruins.
She was full of interesting facts and pointed out lots of things that we would easily have missed. We would highly recommend her!

This was the trip of a lifetime for me and a special experience for my adult grandson. We both have read quite a bit about Herculaneum, Pompeii, and the Roman Empire, and it was thrilling to see Herculaneum for ourselves. Our guide was both gracious and informative. At the end of our tour we were allowed to wander a bit by ourselves and to visit the two nearby museums.

Definitely a great tour and the only way to learn about ancient site. Our tour guide Daniela was fantastic and so knowledgeable!!!! I have done these tours before and without the guide we were just looking at ruins. But with guide we did so much more. The private tour allowed us to learn so much about ancient life as well as the structures, purposes and what they looked like. Worth the extra cost. Herculaneum is smaller but better preserved than Pompeii.

Our guide Luciano is wonderful. He has immense knowledge about the ancient city and the people that once lived there. We all thoroughly enjoyed his stories and information that brought the former Roman culture back to life. We enjoyed Luciano so much that we brought a new group of family members back and did the tour with him again and the other members of the family. The second time around, we even learned new stuff. Great tour and not to be missed.

We very much enjoyed Rossella and our tour with her, but felt misled by Viator - our guide was a high school teacher, and not a practicing Archaeologist. (The title of the paid for experience was "Herculaneum Private Tour with an Archaeologist.") We feel the tour should have cost less given this. Our guide was kind and polite and we enjoyed our two hours with her, but I will not book again through Viator without some kind of assurance that the tour guide has the credentials advertised.
