Excellent tour. I learned so much history about WWII, architecture and geography. The guide was excellent!

Oversold trip - crazy driver

Helle_K, Oct 2025
Lack of information about how many participants would be on the tour, and that the first stop was to get people onto the bus that was in their language. Total chaos and time wasting. Time was short everywhere so we didn't see the real clift. Craft village does not live up to the description. The garden was not woth the trip, at least not this time of the year. A big busload of people is too much for a guide. Only those closest could hear anything. The tour is oversold. The driver sat and shouted and screamed at the other drivers when he wasn't carrying on a shouting conversation with the guide. Both on the way out and home. We sat in front and were finally going crazy listening to it. He flirted inappropriately with us. Probably meant as a joke. After all, we are in our early 60s but it crossed all limits in the end and we are not sensitive. In the end we had to put him in his place. There are better ways to solve the problem of which bus to change to. If each bus had a clear number and the ticket clearly stated that at the first stop you should either stay seated or change to bus no... and vice versa on the way home. Far too many people got on and off the same buses. It's a wonder you don't lose anyone - And it takes a hell of a long time.

Enjoyed the tour a lot. Well guided and informative. I was expecting a rushed tour (read comments) but surprisingly, it was well paced.

Response from Host, Sep 2025

Dear Renata, we're delighted to hear that you enjoyed the tour. We hope that you had a wonderful holiday on our island!

Huge group, little time, bit rushed, tourguide just wants to get it done

Judith_A, Nov 2024
our guide Novka was late when she picked us up in Phoenician hotel. Then we stopped by for more pick ups. Our bus is quite full. We started with Anton gardens, Rabat, lunch, Mdina, Mosta church and some outlet shops. The guide was talking way too fast that it is hard to catch up. No one is smiling throughout the tour bec we feel her stress and she keeps on arguing with the driver. It's like she just wants to get the job done. At the last stop, i had to go to the toilet and i asked her so she pointed me to the cafe and direction to where she will go. But it was not clear and i kept in walking far and didnt find the bus. Had to walk back and thankfully bus passed by and i had to wave so badly else i miss the bus going home. Also, when you ask her about something, she sounds irritated. She's not happy with her job and not people-oriented. So, hopefully u get a better guide as the places are beautiful. Lunch was ok.

great tour

jiller42001, Oct 2024
great tour loved mdina and Rabat, short visit to Mosta only to the church. Just wish more free time than to listen to guide at each stop could have been shorter. Especially in Mdina

Response from Host, Oct 2024

Dear jiller420 Thank you for your positive feedback and hope that you will visit again Malta and join another one of our excursions

Our max 15 person tour, merged into a 45 person tour with no explanation. unwieldy

Lynne_M, May 2024
Sadly our tour was a very disappointing 'bait and switch' experience. Advertised as a max. 15 person group, we were merged into a 45 person tour about 1/2 hr into our trip with no explanation. When our tour guide arrived we were loaded into a large bus. And while Valentina was knowledgeable and engaging, we could only consistently hear her when we were on the bus, not at the locations. In addition we were rushed through Mosta Dome in approx. 10 minutes with no time to take photos. It seemed the tour's priority was sticking to the schedule and getting us to the next location. A 45 person group is ineffective and unwieldy. At a minimum, it warrants a portable microphone.

Response from Host, Oct 2024

Dear Lynne_M We are sorry that you did not enjoy your tour. In Malta a guide can take up to 52 persons on tour. Please send us more details to investigate.

Disorganised Start, But an Enjoyable Day

IanJacobs, Jun 2023
Overall the tour was enjoyable. However, this was the negative part of it:- We were picked up on time in a mini bus, but the driver didn't say anything to anyone on the bus about what was happening (we assumed we this was the start of the tour). However, we finally were dropped off at Attard which appeared to be a central pick-up point for everyone going on a tour that day. Nobody seemed to know what was going on and we had to wait about half an hour before anyone said anything and were then taken to our coach. Once the tour got started, we thought the Tour Guide was very knowledgeable and we visited that we wouldn't necessarily have visited by ourselves. The lunch was very nice and substantial. However, the included drinks were either wine or tap water. In our opinion, there perhaps should have been a non-alcoholic alternative on offer. If anyone wanted anything else, it had to be paid for separately.

Response from Host, Jun 2023

Dear IanJac, Thank you for your comments. We will be checking with the minibus driver what happened on that day and why the guide was so late at the meeting point. Also we would be taking your suggestion and discuss with the restaurant with regards to the drinks. On another not we are very pleased that you did enjoy the tour and hope to have you on one of our tours again if you ever visit Malta again.

Worthwhile

Peta_L, Oct 2022
The tour was great and the guide very informative. A very big group so at times it was hard to hear the guide and had to split the group in 2 when going to catacombs etc due to being so small. Felt rushed at times due to being a large group. The lunch that was included was absolute rubbish. Im a vegetarian and got a plate of packet frozen chopped vegetables.

Response from Host, Oct 2022

Good Afternoon Peta-L Can you please send us an email on tours@sms.com.mt with the date of the tour so we can investigate more please?

Elizabeth was a knowledgeable and excellent guide. She made this tour an excellent experience for our entire family

Response from Host, Aug 2022

Dear Katheri Thanks for your positive comments and we are glad that you did enjoy the tour. We would be passing these comments to the guide. Thanks again and hope that you would be able to join another tour if ever you would visit our island again.

Maybe recommend off season, but summer peak season - not so much.

Tracey_C, Aug 2022
The tour was fine. Information on the Island was interesting. But it was a lot of standing around and waiting. Waiting to start tours, waiting to get into entrances, waiting to move on to next location, waiting to get taking back to hotel. The tour itself was fine, but a few things: would not recommend in the summer with children, extremely hot, and tons of walking in the heat and humidity. The AC on the coaches not much comfort. Maybe best to do this tour when weather is a little cooler.

Response from Host, Aug 2022

Dear Tracey_C Thanks for your comments and we did take note. Unfortunately yes there are times when you have to stay waiting to go into entrances but please keep in mind that it is the peak of the season so we get a lot of tourists during this time. Also yes at the moment it is very hot but it very normal for this time of year. I suggest you visit our island again in autumn when the weather would be cooler.

Good tour

Enjoyable, informative day !

Sian_B, Feb 2022
Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable. A very full and well -planned itinerary filled the day. With a visit to the San Anton Gardens, the Dingli Cliffs, Mdina, catacombs at Rabat, 3 course lunch, the craft Village and Monsa dome it's certainly great value and worth doing.

Response from Host, Feb 2022

Thank you for the positive comments We are glad to hear that you have enjoyed the tour.

Excellent Day

Nancy L, Nov 2019
We had a good start to the tour with Malta 5D where we watched a short movie on the history and culture of Malta with 3D effects.Next we visited a filigree studio and a glass blowing shop where we were able to watch artisans at work. Our next stop was Mosta Parish and the Rotunda. The Church dates back to the early 1600's and has the largest dome that is supported only on the exterior walls and with no pillars. During bombing in WW2, 4 bombs struck the Church, one of which pierced the dome, but none exploded. The Mostin saw this as a miracle, no one was hurt and the Church was not badly damaged. The included lunch in Mdina was next and we (at a table for 6) did not find the meal appetizing. Our group was overly crowded in with another larger group on the second floor of the restaurant and the food so highly peppered that much remained uneaten. Anyway we had vanilla ice cream for dessert which was soothing. After lunch we had free time to explore the town including St. Paul's grotto and the catacombs, a huge network of underground tunnels and caves originally used for burials but used as a shelter during WW2. Next we drove to the Dingli Cliffs, the highest point in Malta with a beautiful view over the ocean. Located next to the cliffs was the Church of Mary Magdalen which was originally built in the 15th century and has recently undergone extensive restoration. The tour ended after a walking tour of Mdina, a walled city on a hilltop that was the original capital of Malta until Valletta was founded by the Knights of St. John. There was a very interesting mix of Moorish, Spanish, Baroque and classical architecture with many picturesque narrow streets. From the ramparts we had a magnificent view stretching from St. Paul's Bay and past Valletta. Our guide for the day was very knowledgeable and provided insight on the history of Malta. All in all a very enjoyable day.

Response from Host, Nov 2019

Dear Nancy L, Thanks for your postive comments. With regards to the lunch we will be checking with the restaurant. We hope that if you every visit Malta again you would join one of our tours again.

Jeff_R, Feb 2017
Our guide lacked enthusiasm and spirit on this tour. The van was quite dirty and old and not the modern vehicle we had expected. You do see a lot of the island on this tour and it is a great value for the money. The hotel pick up and drop off is also quite convenient. If you don't mind a packed mini van, this is quite a deal. Unfortunately, this tour does not take you into the impressive St. Paul's Cathedral and worthwhile church museum.
