Itinerary
Your tour starts at a central location in Valletta where you'll meet your guide and set off on your private walking exploration of the city, one of Europe's most beautiful, known for its baroque architecture, palaces, and churches.
This UNESCO World Heritage site dates back to the 1500s, when the Knights of St. John founded the fortress city. Over the years, it became home to buildings designed by top European architects of the era and renowned works of art.
Learn about all of this from your guide as you walk past landmarks such as Parliament House, the ruins of the Royal Opera House, the Upper and Lower Barrakka Gardens, Auberge d'Italie, Auberge de Castille, St. John's Co-Cathedral, the Great Siege Monument, Strait Street, St. George Square, Grandmaster's Palace, Piazza Regina, National Library of Malta, the Church of St. Paul's Shipwreck, the Siege Bell War Memorial, and Fort St. Elmo – National War Museum.
As you go, hear little-known stories about what it was like to be a patient at the Holy Infirmatory or a galley slave on the ships of the Order, and whether all knights behaved in accordance to their vows. After three hours, you'll have a deeper perspective of Valletta.

Our tour guide Ian was the best. He asked what we were most interested in and tailored our tour to fit our interests. And he knows the history of Malta.

The actual tour with Mario was incredible. He is a local guide and former history teacher who generously shared his knowledge of Malta with us. However, Viator had sent us an incorrect meeting place. After several texts and snapshots of where Viator indicated was our meeting point, the local company confirmed it was not the place they start the tour. It took thirty minutes of our private tour time to locate our guide and a lot of frustration.
I have occasionally received a confirmation text from the local company or guide 30-60 minutes prior to the tour--that would have helped tremendously.

We had a great tour of Valletta with Matthew as our guide. He provided us a detailed history of Valletta and Malta along with some very insightful and thoughtful commentary on contemporary Malta. In addition to seeing a lot, we learned a lot. We very much recommend this tour and Matthew as a guide.

Raymond is an excellent and very knowledgeable guide. We loved the flexibility on this private tour and Raymond had some recommendations on how to get the most out of the day. Would definitely recommend this for anyone looking to do a private day tour of the island’s fantastic sights.

Alizea was very knowledgeable and informative about the history and architecture of Valletta. She gave us time to take photos and altered the route so we could see the canons. She was an excellent tour guide.

Thank you for your kind review! We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed your private walking tour with Alizea. Her knowledge, flexibility, and attention to detail truly make for a special experience. We’re glad you got to see the cannons and capture great photos along the way. The tour was okay. In terms of historical knowledge, the guide was very well-informed, but as a solo traveller on a private tour, I feel we could and should have covered much more ground and seen more of the city if we hadn’t been moving at such a slow pace. The guide also took a 20-minute break during a 3-hour tour, which was completely unnecessary. I later covered more ground on my own in just over an hour. Overall, it wasn’t worth the amount I paid.
Response from Host, Sep 2024
We are truly sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations, as we always strive to provide exceptional tours for every guest.
After speaking with your guide, he mentioned that he offered a 20-minute break as he believed you might be interested in exploring the artisan market. We apologise if this wasn’t aligned with your preferences.
Valletta is a relatively small city, and many of its key landmarks are located close to each other. This might have contributed to the feeling that more ground could have been covered in a shorter amount of time. However, we understand your desire to see more of the city during your tour, and regret that you felt the pace was too slow.
Your feedback is invaluable, and we will use it to improve our service and ensure better communication to meet each guest's expectations.
We hope to have the opportunity to provide you with a more enjoyable experience in the future. Please feel free to reach out to us directly if you would like to discuss this further.

Great guide. Tremendously knowledgeable about Valletta and Maltese history.
History teachers make great guides. It was our first day in Malta and it gave us a great overview with lots of anecdotes.

We got to the meeting location early and Maria was already present. Maria is very good and has a thorough knowledge of Valletta and Malta from a strategic location from the Middle Ages with the knights of St John, through WW2 and to present-day independence. We had the opportunity to watch the canons firing at 4 pm a local tradition of setting clocks.
We had a great time learning about Valetta.

Mario is a former history teacher and is an outstanding tour guide. This was a great way to get an overall orientation for Valetta and learn a lot about the history of the key sites, buildings and people and of Malta.

Matthew, our Maltese guide was absolutely perfect; he accompanied my wife and I around Valletta to give us an intimate and in-depth tour of the city and its history. I do not think the same is possible without Matthew or an excellent guide.

We wanted an introduction to Valetta and our tour guide Ian was fabulous. He walked us all around Valetta, showing us the main sites while providing historical context. A little over half way through the tour, he took us to the Museum restaurant for a short break, where we had a well needed refreshment as he provided us with more details on what to see and do during our visit and suggested several restaurants for us to try. We highly recommend this tour with Ian.

Valletta is a stunningly beautiful city. Around every corner is site after site of beautiful buildings. Without a guide it’s easy to miss the fascinating history behind this city.
Matteo was extremely knowledgeable and really helped us appreciate the beauty we were looking at in our tour of Valetta.
Leanne_H, Jul 2023
This tour is the best way to get to know Valletta. Daniela is a wonderful guide. A native of Malta, she shared lots of insights and stories along the way, beyond the general history. This is a must do tour on your first day visit!
James_C, Jul 2023
The tour of the cathedral was amazing! Jennifer’s knowledge all around about Valletta and it’s history was inspiring!
Alan_H, Jun 2023
Our first time in Valletta and Danielle certainly helped us make the most if it and take this wonderful city in. So much to see and the walking tour was the perfect way to do it. Would recommend doing it AM - hot PM!
Les_S, Jun 2023
Seeing Valletta through the eyes of an experienced guide was well worth the time invested. Carmel gave great insight about what we were looking at and what was important. Spending time in the garden was a nice touch.
Dominick_M, Jun 2023
Our morning tour was canceled due to an unexpected emergency. The tour operator worked to arrange another guide for the same day. We toured with Mario, who provided a very detailed account of the city’s history at a comfortable pace. He was very attentive, personable and knowledgeable. My wife and I (there were only the two of us) really enjoyed learning about the city’s past, but also getting a new perspective on other sites and activities worth doing while we are here. Highly recommend this tour (and Mario!) for anyone new to Valletta, and would recommend taking the tour early in your trip.
Verity_H, May 2023
Carmel was a fabulous guide. He was extremely knowledgeable and has a great sense of humour. He gave us a great introduction to Valletta and Malta.
Teresa_B, May 2023
We really enjoyed the history of Malta. Our guide was very knowledgeable. It was a great walking tour.
Elizabeth_S, Apr 2023
Carmel's knowledge of Maltas history was superb. Centuries of it, plus little quips and tales along the walk were great. My husband was thrilled to see the places and hear the background in detail from all he has read/seen in documenteries.
Dont miss this tour.
