Visited on a cold, grey April day and honestly it exceeded expectations.
The star of the show is absolutely Land of the Lions, the proximity to the animals through the glass is unlike anything I've experienced at a zoo.
You're literally face to face with a lion with just a pane of glass between you. The Indian street setup makes it genuinely immersive, not just another enclosure.
The Reptile House was a hidden gem, dark, atmospheric and the animals are always visible up close. The Titicaca frog alone is worth a visit.
The Butterfly Paradise is best visited later in the day. I went twice and the second visit was completely different, managed to photograph some stunning species up close.
Penguin Beach delivered a fantastic talk and the Bugs exhibit with the spider webs up close was unexpectedly brilliant.
Cold days mean some animals stay inside, but the smaller enclosed exhibits actually shine more. The zoo is compact enough to do everything in one day if you plan your talks around the app schedule.

Allow plenty of time. Don’t linger too long looking at each animal. Plenty of places to eat away from attraction.

If you have mobility difficulties, The zoo has a couple of electric scooters to hire cost £20 per day, pathways are very accessible, animals are well looked after and it was wonderful to see them close up. Lots of information about the animals in various formats

Great time love the staff and the friendly atmosphere. Animals were well cared for the gift shop excellent
Paul_G, Oct 2025
Very enjoyable. More actual signposting around the zoo site, as to where different animal enclosures are, would be very helpful. The map given on entering the zoo is useful - but not always an adequate guide as to how to find different animals.
Worth bearing in mind - the nearest Underground stations are not particularly close to the zoo - bear in mind if one is disabled or find walking a distance a problem.
Don’t be put off - it makes for a lovely visit.

If travelling by bus, (no.88) there is a long walk to get to the entrance.
Not enough sign posts, if you come in by car, no problem.

Well done, I am impressed and enjoyed every minute staying in Zoo and would be happy to come back because couldn’t to see everything

Unfortunately the zoo is very tired and disappointing. Very few animals, run down attractions. Lots of empty enclosures. One enclosure seemed to boast about plant life? And lots of weeds - the grounds are poorly kept. Did a lot of walking between enclosures that actually had animals.
We were at the zoo for over 3 hours. So you realise how sparse the zoo is all we saw was 3 very lethargic gorillas, a couple of zebras, 3 giraffes, some monkeys, some sloths - the guy in this enclosure was very informative, a couple of camels but their humps were droopy which generally means their fat source is low, 4 lions, 2 emus, a few wallabies, some otters and penguins and 2 tigers. Hardly any bIrds or reptiles. The facility is a bit of an embarrassment to London. We were looking forward to something better and better kept.

It was a great day. We had an adventurous day seeing all the animals. My favorite was the giraffe and I’m so glad to show my son a piece of Africa.

The rare sorts of animals and birds and the way that the zoo was organized to be scientific more than bieng only a show.
Janeen_S, Mar 2024
Spent the best part of around 4 hours taking in all the zoo has to offer (& there were no children in our group!).
Some of the exhibits were undergoing renovation, so access wasn't possible, but there was still plenty to see.
The site is huge, so be prepared to be walking around a lot, though there are plenty of benches/seating, etc.
Lots of visible staff who were keen to answer any questions/help.
There are plenty of restroom facilities which were clean and well maintained.
A large restaurant provides a variety of choices for drinks, snacks, meals, etc.

We have such a lovely time with my family in the zoo. With a great experience seeing different kinds of animals.
Sila_C, Dec 2023
Good overall experience. If you are driving, there’s parking outside provided you arrive early on the day. There are lots of areas for kids. The only downside is that during winter there are not many indoor spaces to sit down for a coffee, just the main restaurant, so for keeping in mind.

Had to work around a 2 year old's nap schedule. Got to the zoo just around 4 pm when it closes at 5 however the front gate was already completely closed and we were unable to get in.

ZSL London Zoo was full of interesting displays that highlighted the need for us to be more aware of our environment and to do what we can to protect the plight of animals and all living things.
sheilagh_d, Mar 2020
Good, easy entry, lots of helpful attendants available. Pleasant place to stroll around and enjoy the animals.
Some seemed a little sad.
Others not.
Sorry there are not elephants these days.
Excellent shop, full of treats for all ages, good food and drink facilities, though at peak time the main restaurant was rather full of food debris and rubbish, fault of both the careless public and maybe not sufficient cleaning up.
Overall a wonderful outing for especially with small children in tow.

It was an interesting day. The food and drink was expensive although very tasty. The zoo is showing it's age and certain areas could do with a refresh. The bugs area was well laid out and very interesting.

London Zoo is well worth a visit, the animals are adorable and the staff are very friendly and you can tell that they love all the animals individually. A great day out in London.

I love zoos and it was nice to see the Harry Potter scene.

Went on a Saturday in January, great time to visit and managed to see all of the animals. Great day out with my family, the kids loved it and there was plenty to do and see. New lion exhibition is wonderful!

If you are looking for a local day trip you cannot do any better that a visit to the London Zoo. The weather was great and I had a very enjoyable time. I got many great pictures which I will share a few.

The Zoo was entertaining and good, but the kindness of Viator's staff was even better. We ask them to reschedule our ticket in the very last minute, and they did immediately : Thanks!

Not a very good place to go. Firstly it does not have a direct connectivity, if you go by bus, you need to atleast change 2 buses. Also add a 1-2 mile walk to get to the park. Park is well maintained, but not superb.
So so - can try if nothing else is available under excursions

It was pouring with rain so we pretty much had the zoo to ourselves, we had a great day

Very good and clean zoo I've ever visited in Europe.
Dianne_S, Sep 2016
Didn't really get the time to spend there to truly give an opinion. Small.
Linda_C, Jun 2016
Had a great day, having lovely weather added to the great day. Lots to see with some close up and personal areas with the animals and butterflies was amazing. Highly recommend

Was a lot bigger and better than what i expected to be in the middle of London, worthwhile doing
en.dovier, Mar 2016
A must see for animal lovers in London! The animals look so well taken care of and everything is really good organised. The place is quite big and we spent more than 4h wandering and enjoying all the cute animals. I absolutely loved the giraffes. Also, we have been really lucky to be able to see two baby gorillas and a baby ant eater. We had a break at the terrace restaurant as it was a bit cold but we could have also enjoyed some sandwiches outside, on the benches and tables located around the Zoo. Amazing day, lots of fun! Totally recommended.
