Overview
Check out the center of Madeira Island, where you'll find the Valley of the Nuns. This is a half day small group tour, that runs twice weekly at 9:30am. You’ll stop at Miradouro Pico Dos Barcelos for a wonderful view of Funchal, and later at Eira do Serrado viewpoint for some gorgeous surrounding nature. You'll then spend time in the Valley of the Nuns with layers of white clouds among the mountain peaks.

Really enjoyed this trip with Sergio. He made the tour fun and informative. Nun’s valley was stunning and Sergio understood the cloud & weather to determine timings to make the most of the viewpoints. Highly recommend.

Fab little tour of a gorgeous part of the island. Worth it for the views at the first stop alone. We also stopped at a lovely little cafe at the second stop and indulged in some chestnut treats, including cake and liqueur. Our guide was very friendly and informative. All in all, a great way to spend an afternoon.

Very beautiful views up high. The drive up was scenic with lots of nature and woodlands. Plenty of time to walk or have a coffee at the places we stopped at. Take warm clothes!! I did the tour with Feeling Madeira and they were fantastic!

Very informative guide who drove very safely and interesting stops along the way. Can be cold in the hills but we were there at the start of Storm Regina so maybe not typical.

Beautiful visit to Nuns valley, this tour was great and showed a very calm part of the island away from Funchal, our guide was great and looked after us all, unfortunately two of the people who where on the tour where very late to meet us but our guide didn't hurry us at any of the viewpoints we went to so we could fully enjoy our tour, I apologise as I cannot remember my guides name but he was a fab driver and looked after us well ensuring we knew what we could see in each place we visited.

Horatio, our guide, was very knowledgeable and told us a lot about the places we visited and the history of Madeira. We saw spectacular views of the mountain countryside and the beautiful Nuns valley from several different locations. We were given plenty of time to enjoy the views and take some very memorable photos. We would definitely recommend this tour!

Disappointing tour. Three stops and lovely views but a bit pointless. Nun's house was just a bit of a mix of different old items. Some inappropriate additions. Which nun has a baby's cradle in her house?

Friendly and knowledgeable driver / guide, Sergio, made it a very enjoyable trip. He wasn't fazed by a crashed service bus blocking our route, and quickly came up with an alternate option.

On a damp day we set off up into the hills above Funchal, starting at a viewpoint that magically cleared after a few moments to reveal a lovely valley. After visiting another lovely viewpoint, we drove to Nun’s Valley- a lovely village high above the valley floor surrounded by hills where we visited the replica Nun’s House and tasted some of the local wines before heading back. A lovely half day trip.

Take warm clothing as the mountains are colder than Funchal and weather can be unpredictable. Not the tour for you if afraid of heights as roads wind up steeply and cling to the side of the mountain. The driver Renatowas very knowledgeable and gave an entertaining commentary. Fantastic views and the first time we have ever looked down into a valley and seen a rainbow!

Our tour guide was excellent and polite. The day was rainy off and on and overcast so some of the views were obstructed. But the stop at peak overlooking nuns ballet was spectacular. Nuns valley itself was also beautiful and quaint. However, we’re supposed to get picked up at our hotel and found out late the night before we had to go to local bus depot it was very disappointing. Even worse though is after we went to bus stop to get on board the minibus drove right past our hotel. Very disappointing.

Trip was really nice however our rep spoke Portuguese most of the time to other people on the trip. At one point we stopped at factory who making the brown cake and we didn't know why we stopped lol. Also trio was moved to afternoon as there was a technical issue.

Scenery and viewing points good, however experience was disappointing as ‘tour guide’ was only a driver as his English was very limited and therefore unable / unwilling to address the mini bus personnel with any narrative or facts regarding Maderia, it’s history, it’s geography or anything else! When we booked, we selected the English option, therefore assumed our tour guide would speak English!!

The three stops on this tour were picturesque and worthwhile. However, it would be great to spend more time in the nun’s valley and reduce time at the other two photo opportunity stops. Driver was careful and informative.

We where at the pick up point on time but one couple was late, so we sent 40 minutes driving up and down the port road looking for them.
We did not expect the minibus to be a local Taxi,
The driver was very nice but could not speak much English so he had difficulty explaining things to us.
We felt a bit rushed at the stops and I presume this was down to our late departure.
The trip was ok,ish but we did feel a little let down

The tour itself was very nice, the landscape is amazing. Our guide Gloria was "nice". She gave us some explanations in English but she was too busy speaking Portuguese to a couple sitting in front. If you decide to do this tour ask for Renato-he is the best guide I have ever met! Do the tour with him and you won't be sorry!

Very disappointed felt really rushed. 25 minutes in nuns Valley was not enough.
The mini bus was cramped and air conditioning was poor. Front seats taken by guests and the guide spent most of her time talking in Portuguese to them. Felt this was really rude. No information regarding to nuns valley on your bus.
I have done this trip before and this did not match up in anyway. The one I have done previous was interesting and informative and engaging. Unfortunately this was anything but.

The view from the spa hotel overlooking Nuns Valley was spectacular. Our guide was amazing took us to a small business which made candy and traditional cake.

Well organised tour and our guide gave lots of info about the area. A few additional stops were included at view points above Funchal. The most dramatic point is the view looking down into the Nuns Valley and it’s worth walking along the path from the souvenir shop / cafe to the highest point. Once at the village in the valley there isn’t a great deal to do apart from admire the landscape from a cafe. There is a small chestnut museum and cafe that sell produce made using chestnuts. A good half day visit.
