Making Paella with Chef Simon and Alberto was fantastic! This was a great experience and a highlight of our trip to Barcelona. The trip to La Boqueria was really fun and Simon showed us how to pick our seafood ingredients. Simon was charming and funny and took such pride in teaching us how to make our Paella and Sangria. Highly recommend this experience

Paella Party

Cindy_C, Aug 2026
This was so much fun! People from Australia, and all over US there. The chef was informative and the sangria was great and plentiful! Learned how to dress a squid and cook the whole thing in a three foot paella pan. Food was tasty and the company warm and friendly. I was a little nervous doing this by myself but once we got going it was fun.

We booked this as a dinner option and to help get our bearings. It wasn't easy to find. Once we found the starting point, we walked to the market to pick up the fresh seafood. There was no commentary along the way so we wandered though the crowds in silence until we got to the market where our guide advised what we were buying and how to pick fresh seafood for our meal. The market visit was very quick and just for the seafood. From there we walked to another location for the cooking of the meal. That part was interesting and the food was good. Overall - go if you want to learn how to make paella. Don't go if you don't think that dinner, drinks and desert shouldn't cost $125/person - it wasn't that level of an experience for me at least.

This was so much fun! We first visited the market where we learned how to distinguish fresh seafood. We headed back to the kitchen where they started off with some delicious appetizers and made sangria from scratch. The class was very interactive and hands on, with plenty of food for everyone. I wish I remembered the chefs names but they were incredible. Must do while in Spain!

Response from Host, Aug 2026

Thank you Lizzette! What a fun experience to read about. We are so glad you enjoyed everything from learning how to choose fresh seafood at the market to getting hands on in the kitchen with the paella and homemade sangria. We will make sure your lovely words reach the chefs, even if their names escaped you after all that food and sangria. Thank you for recommending us, and we hope you get to recreate a little taste of Barcelona at home someday.

I was nervous that this experience would feel too “touristy”. I was blown away by the flavors and experience.

Response from Host, Aug 2026

We completely understand that concern, Ronald, which makes it especially lovely to hear that the experience surprised you in the best way. We are glad the flavors and the time spent cooking together felt genuinely worthwhile. Thank you for joining us, and we hope you take a little of that Barcelona flavor back to your own kitchen.

ChristaM, Aug 2026
We had a fantastic time at our paella cooking class. The market visit was so fun. Lorenzo was so good with our kids (8 & 11), and we all had so much fun prepping the seafood and making our own sangria and paella—one of the best paellas we had in Barcelona! Absolutely highly recommend!

Response from Host, Aug 2026

It sounds like the whole family got properly involved, Christa, from the market visit and seafood prep to making sangria and paella together. We are especially happy to hear how good Lorenzo was with your 8 and 11 year olds. And having your creation rank among the best paellas you ate in Barcelona is a wonderful result. Thank you for recommending us, and we hope your family tries recreating the recipe together at home.

The food was delicious...

Erin_L, Aug 2026
The food was delicious and the chefs were great. Learned a lot about the seafood preparation. Very accommodating for those that didn’t eat seafood. The only negatives were the meeting point location in a quiet alley, (about 10-15 minutes walk in the heat to the market), and then an additional 15 minutes walk in the heat after the market to a different location than the meeting point. I would suggest just meeting at the market.

Response from Host, Aug 2026

Thank you for such thoughtful feedback, Erin. We are very glad you enjoyed the food, the chefs, and especially learning more about seafood preparation, and that the team could accommodate those who did not eat seafood. We also appreciate your comments about the meeting point and the walks to and from the market. We understand that those distances can feel very different in the Barcelona heat, and your perspective is genuinely useful to us. We hope the delicious parts of the day stay with you, and perhaps you will put some of those seafood tips to work at home.

This was a fabulous tour. The guide was personable & informative. He pointed out sites of interest on our way to the market, explained how to select fresh seafood, & walked use through making paella / sangria. And everything was delicious! M

Response from Host, Aug 2026

We are so glad you enjoyed the whole journey, Lisa, from spotting Barcelona sights along the way to learning how to choose fresh seafood and then turning it all into paella and sangria. It is wonderful to hear that your guide made the experience both personable and informative. Thank you for joining us, and we hope you get the chance to recreate some of those delicious flavors at home.

I really enjoyed this cooking class in Barcelona! The teacher was very friendly, patient, and welcoming, which made the whole experience relaxing and fun. I especially enjoyed learning how to make traditional Spanish paella step by step. It was interesting to learn about the ingredients, the cooking process, and some local food culture at the same time. The class was not only educational but also very enjoyable, and I had a great time cooking and sharing the food with everyone. It was definitely one of the fun experiences during my stay in Barcelona. If you are visiting Barcelona and want to try something different from sightseeing, I highly recommend joining this cooking class. It is a great way to experience Spanish culture and create a special travel memory!

Wonderful Paella Experience!

Brad_B, Aug 2026
Andreas and Gaby did a wonderful job demonstrating how to select seafood at the market and leading a diverse group through the preparation of a wonderful paella meal. An Sangria! Highly recommend!

Outstanding Experience!

Eric_P, Aug 2026
This was honestly one of the highlights of our trip to Barcelona! Hugo and Lorenzo were absolutely wonderful and made the entire experience so memorable. The class was small, only eight people total, which we loved. It was us and three other couples from Norway, London, and Germany, so it felt intimate and personal rather than like a typical large tour. The entire experience was incredibly well done. It was structured and organized, but at the same time felt very natural, relaxed, and organic. We started with a visit to the market, which was such a great experience on its own. Hugo and Lorenzo were engaging and educational throughout, and we learned so much without it ever feeling like a formal lesson. The cooking portion was just as wonderful. The kitchen was clean, cozy, and welcoming, and everyone was able to participate. We made our own sangria, which was amazing, and the paella we made was by far the best paella we had during our entire trip to Barcelona! What really made the experience stand out was the atmosphere. It felt less like a tourist activity and more like spending an afternoon cooking, eating, drinking, and getting to know new people. Everything flowed so naturally, and Hugo and Lorenzo were fantastic hosts. We absolutely loved it and would recommend this experience without hesitation. If you’re visiting Barcelona and want something that’s fun, authentic, educational, and personal, this is a must-do!

Fantastic experience and very hands-on!

Alexa_P, Aug 2026
The paella cooking class was very fun and hands-on. Our instructor Gaby was friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the process and all the ingredients. I enjoyed learning about all the different seafood, how to prepare it, and the origins of the paella dish. Making sangria and tasting the tapas were the cherries on top! Highly recommend the GAB lab :)
