Katlyn is a native and super informative about the island. She's a safe driver with a very comfortable van. She did her best to be on the lookout for wildlife viewing. We were fortunate to see many eagles, deer, salmon and a bear! Plus many picturesque spots including a beautiful waterfall. Katlyn provided water and snacks too. We would book her tour again! And she picked us up and dropped us at the ship which is a big bonus.
Jody is incredibly knowledgeable about Ketchican and the surrounding area. My husband and I so wanted to see bears in the wild but we arrived very late in the season. Nevertheless Jody took us to waterfalls, salmon spawning and the place she felt we might most get a chance to see a bear. She told us no one had see any for the last four days, but her persistence paid off and we saw not one, but three bears!! We loved the tour and Jody!
Our guide Jody was awesome. We Got the personal touch with a pickup. Very knowledgeable about the area and giving us tidbits. She accommodated our needs for bathroom breaks and a stop. Told us where to look for the bears. We did not get lucky but she told us that late September might be the time the bears are getting full and may be going into hibernation. So make sure to look into that when booking. Offered rain coats and binoculars if you forgot yours.
Pam is such a sweetheart! She made sure we had a great experience. Ketchikan is beautifull and we loved it
Pam did a wonderful job. She is a local and her stories and experiences were so interesting. We did we one near which was fun. It was a beautiful day.
A great way to see more of the countryside from a local’s perspective & we saw bears, seals & bald eagles. A great way to spend the afternoon - highly recommend!!
Pam did a wonderful job of driving and also finding wildlife . She keeps going till we seen the bears . 4 siting altogether :)
Our tour guide Pam was a delight however we were extremely disappointed when by the end of the tour we had not sighted even a hint of a bear. When we returned to our cruise ship we saw photos from passengers that showed every other operator had managed to see bears that morning. Our operator drove us to areas that appeared to b highly popular. There were vans, buses constantly arriving/leaving, it was no wonder a bear did not appear. We saw an eagle high in a tree, not because our operator pointed it out but a member of the public did. For the money we paid we were very disappointed.
You are not guaranteed to see a bear but they try their hardest. So friendly and we love how it was a local guiding us. Pam was OUTSTANDING and Funny!!!
Great excursion! We didn’t get to see bears but they were determined to try & get us to! Loved the determination! Everything else we saw was also incredible!
We booked the trip as a small group tour. Waist of money as all the tour operators from different companys go to the same place and there's crowds. 15 vans down a dead end road. No show of seeing bears. We had to wait for other companies to move to view a waterfall. Local taxis were also taking people there a lot cheaper.
This was our first excursion in Alaska, and we were pleasantly surprised. The van driver was determined for us to see wildlife. She knew everything about the neighborhood and the patterns of the local bears. We drove up and down her friends street until we saw a mama bear with her 2 cubs crossing the road to the house they hang out at. She then took us to a field and sure enough - 2 more bears. We drove along a private beach and saw 3 eagles sitting in a tree. Our last stop was a hidden waterfall off the side of the road where we stopped and took some nice pictures. The driver took very good care of us and even provided snacks. The whole experience was very casual, and delivered exactly what it said it would.
Katelyn was absolutely fabulous and totally made sure I saw my first bear in Alaska. Wonderful small group tour, very informative and fun. We saw two bears, salmon being caught, seals and a bald eagle. Highly recommend. Also a wonderful waterfall.
Kaitlynn was awesome and funny. We got to see 4 bear and no one was at the waterfall. Definitely would book her again.
Pam our tour guide was very nice, she tried very hard to find us bears but we didn’t see any. But not impressed with the tour itself. We drove in neighborhood roads looking for bears, at one point we parked in front of “Scotty’s” house (not sure who Scotty is) waiting for a bear. Scotty’s wife pulled up in her car while we were parked in her yard and she slammed her front door when going in her house. It was apparent she was upset with us. Spent 5 minutes at a waterfall that was not worth seeing. The tour is advertised as bringing us back to our meeting point at the end of the tour which was wards cove but Pam said she could not take us back and we would have to take a shuttle back to Wards cove. We got on the shuttle to get back to our ship and most of the people on the shuttle saw bears at Creek Street, which is absolutely free. Lesson learned for next time.
Jody was really warm, welcoming and knowledgeable about the local area.
She really took time to understand what we wanted to get out of the tour and ensured we got to see the bits (and wildlife) that we wanted to see.
Would highly recommend a tour with Jody, we couldn’t have enjoyed our time with her any more, in fact, if we booked again, we would ensure we left more time to book a longer tour.
Thank you Jody! 🌸🌼🌸
This is a fantastic company to take a tour with. They do you right if there is a "hiccup" with your reservation.
It was interesting that we saw a bear but overall it was more like a neighborhood block party than a wildlife adventure.
We had a great day with our fab guide who was local and very interesting. We saw black bears eagles waterfall
Just know driver will do everything possible to ensure you see bears. Waterfall was beautiful and driver was very knowledgeable about area and wildlife.
Jodi was a wonderful guy and we had a very nice time we did see a bear and a lot of eagles. thank you very much
The driver was very knowledgeable and caring
My husband has had two strokes and she went out of her way to make sure he could see the bear
We had such a wonderful experience with Average Alaska Tours, and especially with our tour operator, Pam! She was incredibly knowledgeable and full of interesting information about Ketchikan and the surrounding area.
Pam was determined to help everyone in our group have the chance to see a bear, and she went above and beyond to make the experience special. She was also very thoughtful about keeping everyone warm and dry throughout the tour, which made a big difference.
She was kind and accommodating when we had a few special requests along the way and made us feel like she genuinely wanted everyone to have the best possible experience. Pam was friendly, patient, knowledgeable, and simply wonderful to spend the day with.
Seeing a bear was definitely a highlight, but the entire tour was an all-around fantastic experience. We highly recommend Average Alaska Tours—and if you’re lucky enough to have Pam as your tour operator, you’re in for a treat! 🐻❤️
Although our guide was late collecting us she went out of her way to give us a great experience ,
We saw 4 bears including a mum and cubs , deer and beautiful birds ,
Guide never gave us her name but she was fab , very knowledgable and friendly , great trip
Excellent tour with Jodie lots of local knowledge. Unfortunately no bears showing that day due to heavy rain.
We had a fantastic tour with Pam. She’s a genuine local, and her knowledge, enthusiasm, and storytelling really made the experience special. Pam knew all the little spots to explore for the best chance of seeing wildlife, and she went above and beyond by circling back to areas we had visited earlier in hopes of spotting a black bear. Her persistence paid off—on one of those return visits, we were lucky enough to see a large black bear feeding on salmon, which was an incredible highlight of the tour. You could really tell how much effort Pam puts into making the experience memorable for her guests. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and would absolutely recommend it—especially if you can book with Pam!
We had an absolutely wonderful experience on our waterfall tour in Ketchikan. The scenery was spectacular, the waterfalls were beautiful, and the entire tour was well organized and enjoyable from beginning to end. We saw bears, deer, and seals all in one!
What really made the experience special was our tour guide, Pam. She was friendly, knowledgeable, engaging, and made everyone feel welcome. Pam shared great information about Ketchikan and the surrounding area while keeping the tour fun and relaxed. Her personality and enthusiasm truly added to the experience.
If you’re visiting Ketchikan and looking for a great way to see some of the area’s natural beauty, I highly recommend this tour. Ask for Pam if you can—she was outstanding and definitely made this a 5-star experience!
Great tour. Pam was our tour guide and as a lifelong resident had so much knowledge about the area. We saw Sitka deer, a beautiful waterfall, lots of wildlife and jumping fish, and learned a lot about the trees and shrubs along the route. But most importantly, we saw several bears including a mother bear with 2 cubs and were able to get up close to them and watch them catch salmon and feast on it. Highly recommend this tour
Pam was my tour guide and she was awesome. Very knowledgeable, was determined to show us bear. She came through and we saw 4 Bears!!
So happy we did this tour.
We had a great tour with our guide, Pam. She was very knowledgeable on a wide range of topics and went above and beyond to ensure we had a great experience. Would definitely book with this company again!
