What are people saying about Sitka

Great way to spend a day in Sitka
Informative tour with lots to see. Highlight was Fortress of the Bear where we got to see the bears being fed. There’s a few negative reviews about the place but given the bears were orphaned and cannot be released back into the wild this is an ethical way to see them in their home country as opposed to zoos in others. The raptor centre was also really good. Tour guide was knowledgeable about each of the places we visited and I’d recommend this tour to anyone on a day trip to Sitka.

Must do..book it
Absolutely amazing trip with Captain Rick. We ended being the only people on board which was a total surprise. Had a wonderful tour, saw a whale tail, sealions and sea otters. Went to look for bears but think they are just waking up. Saw beautiful scenery from the water and learnt so much from Captain Rick. Would really recommend this tour. In fact we would have gone again same day if he had room on his next tour! Book it, you will never regret it!

a great day to be had
I was fortunate to get to experience Sitka on a stunningly sunny day and definitely picked the perfect tour: “Simply Amazing Sitka Tour: Fortress of the Bear, Alaska Raptor, & Totems”, provided by Baranof Tours.
The Raptor Sanctuary was informative and so amazing to be so close to these amazing creatures! Sadly, sorta, the day before our arrival 14 Ball’s Eagles were able to be released!
Then came the Fortress of the Bear, a reuse of an old Sitka mill into a sanctuary for bear cub who would otherwise be euthanized due to state law. These gorgeous animals are a sight to be seen!
We concluded our tour at the Totem Park and some regional indigenous people’s history.
This is a worthwhile day!
Our Guide, a former Traveling Nurse, was a perfect host with a great wit for this position!

Highly recommend
Capt Gary's tour to the Alaska Raptor Center, Sitka National Historical Park, and Fortress of the Bear was absolutely unforgettable! We had an amazing day in port. Sitka’s beautiful, crisp weather made the entire day even more enjoyable. Even though the rain made a quick visit, mother nature didn't phase us. Every stop gave us a chance to experience the incredible wildlife and history of Alaska up close.
The raptor center was inspiring and educational, the totem pole park was peaceful and rich with culture, and seeing the bears at Fortress of the Bear was such an amazing experience. We were able to witness one of their mid-day feedings!
What truly made the trip exceptional was our guide, Riley. Riley was knowledgeable, friendly, organized, and made the whole day fun and stress-free. You could tell he genuinely loves Sitka and cared about making sure everyone had a great experience. We learned so much while still having plenty of time to enjoy the scenery and take pictures.
Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Sitka.

Don't hesitate! It's awesome!
I'm from Arizona and was intimidated by the 46 degree water but with the wet suit it was totally manageable. Total time in the water is about an hour which was perfect for seeing sea life especially lots of starfish and giant kelp. Hannah and Lee were great guides and I'd recommend Selkie Snorkels to anyone visiting Sitka.

Great experience!
Wonderful experience. The boat is smaller (though very sea worthy) and there were only 5 passengers so we didn’t have to worry about not being able to get to the railing to view the abundant wildlife. We saw numerous grey whales, sea otters, bald eagles and sea lions. The boat was well designed with covered areas and small enough to be able to get into areas where the larger, crowded boats couldn’t go.
The crew was knowledgeable and friendly. It was a wonderful experience that we would highly recommend.

So many whales!
Very knowledge tour guide with a sense of humor. He knew just where to find the sea lions. We were able to see otters and he found a ton of grey whales and taught us all about their behaviors vs the behaviors of humpback. All of the wildlife aside, the scenery was lovely. If I had any critiques it would be for the Viator platform itself. The platform gave some conflicting information about the nature of the tour and pick up instructions. Luckily the tour company texted us directly in regards to the meeting point. All in all it was a great experience but I recommend booking with Parker Wildlife Tour directly to avoid any confusion. This wasn't the first time I had a confusing time with Viator.

An easy way to get to know the US’s largest National Forest
This experience was just what we wanted to do. Hike an easy path through Tongas. Brie was very friendly and an expert of the forest.
Surprise snacks were included. This hike is not difficult. Yes, get out into the largest US National Forest. Thenks, Brie

Authentic Sitka experience with a local gem!
We had the absolute best time on our private tour of Sitka, despite the rain! Met our guide, Kealoha, a local resident at the pier, right from the ship. We were escorted to her vehicle, which was comfortable and had a booster for our young son. Kealoha made the tour feel more personal and relaxed compared to the big bus tours.
She shared stories about Sitka’s history, culture, and everyday life that we would not have likely learned otherwise, and also provided lunch recommendations which proved to be delicious.
Highlights included breathtaking views along the shoreline, Bear Fortress, Raptor center, Totem museum and downtown. She was with us inside most centers and gave us detailed info on the animals and organizations. The coolest thing I recall was seeing a bear use sign language to communicate with one of the care rpoviders.
There was plenty of flexibility to adjust the pace for our family, and the weather. I appreciated her giving us a heads up the day before of how to dress for comfort.
Kealoha was warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely proud to share her family's hometown with us. This tour gave us a deeper appreciation of Sitka, enough to consider work here. She was just the sweetest, showing us off-tour sites based on our discussions. We highly recommend this private tour to anyone looking for an authentic and kid-friendly way to explore Sitka!

Great small group tour...
Great small group tour and tour guide! Capn Mike was funny and empathetic and was receptive to what we wanted to see! Great to have a local who could offer realistic and expert opinions on things. We got lucky, even though it was rainy and wet, we saw humpbacks and sea otters in ways we hadn't before!

The Best
Larry was so much fun and gave us a great history lesson about the area. I really liked the forest and how much he knew about why the trees grew the way they did. He and Liz went above and beyond for us. We accidently left the little bears for our grandkids on the bus. Larry took them to our ship after his shift. Liz was a driver for the same company. She took my husband back to the bus barn, Larry had already left. When she came back to the port she inquired at the security check points and we exchanged numbers. They had made their way to the guest services, so I was able to let her know we had them and how much we appreciated their efforts. SO Rob and Ashley, your customers highly recommend your tour operators. Thank you

This was such a fun...
This was such a fun project that we wouldn’t have been able to do anywhere else. The instructors were very friendly. Both my boys (13 and 15) ranked it very high on our week long vacation to Alaska. Now we have an awesome souvenir that we’ll have to remember our trip to Sitka.
