I give 4 stars on the description of this tour which says watch Salmon, explore sea life, tidepools, and Whale sightings, eagles, seals, and bears, and 2 stars on the actual tour. Stormin Norman was a decent guide, he knows his history, but is hard to understand at times. He made it known about 5 times there was Global Warming and that is affecting Alaska. In June, Salmon weren't swimming upstream yet at the Ketchikan Creek because of GW. We went to Rotary Beach and found a spider crab under a rock, but no other sea life, no tidepools (because of time of day?), or whales. At Herring Cove, there was 2 eagles which was cool but have seen other excursions our friends went on where 15-20 eagles were flying around. Unfortunately, there were not any seals or bears there either.
Of all of the wildlife the tour says you will see, we only saw eagles. And Norm offered my kids the Walmart brand dorito style chips as a snack and they asked for the cheetos in a new box and he said to them beggars can't be choosers (actually), but later changed his mind and opened the new box when a couple adults also wanted something from the new box.
Wasn't very impressed and was probably a waste of time and money.

Did not see any wildlife. We did go back to the river twice, but nothing. We also did not see the totem village. The waterfall was great.

Our expectations were to learn about the area, the Alaska Natives and wildlife.
We were very disappointed. Our tour guide was friendly. The meeting point said it was in front of the visitor center. To us that meant on the ship side of the building, where the double doors entered the visitor center. We finally found him on the left side of the building if you are looking from the ship to the building. We were there more than 30 minutes early.
This gentleman basically told us look for whales to the right. There should be harbor seals to the right. Look in that tree, there is a big eagles nest that has been there since he moved there when he was 9. He gave no educational facts about the area, the wildlife or people. All we heard about was how things related to him as a child. Someone asked about a flower that we saw all along the road. He told us he was dyslexic and that stuff really didn't interest him. What he knows is just from living here. Or he told stories of a bear once seen by him on this trail or how a tourist had a near encounter with a bear here or there.
Most disappointing of all, he told us about 2 totem poles. The Lincoln and the Seward pole. All we heard about the building was the board he worked on when he was 22.
I had a wonderful tour last June. The Native gentleman spoke the whole time with facts and stories. He told us about every pole and took us into the woods to see everything there. He was so informative!

It was really nice lots of information from the tour guide he was very good. We did not see bears at the river, but we saw one in the road on our way back

This was a great start to our cruise. Ketchikan was our first stop and we got an awesome guide. We got to see bears, eagles, a few other animals. Highly recommend for the money it was a bargain!

Awesome. This is a small local business in Ketchikan. They operate a few vans. The guides are locals that have basically lived there all their lives and love it. Our guide, Stormin Norman, was awesome. He tells it like it is with a voice of pride for his town. We saw way more than the others that just walked into town. Heard some great stories. We covered a lot of ground. Saw the fish ladder and beautiful stream running through the town; great beach with eagles flying over; Rainbow falls and another stream in hopes of a bear sighting. We actually went here twice… it was super packed… Norman said let’s load up and see Rainbow Falls and we’ll come back. No bear sighting but not for the lack of trying. Then we ended at a totem pole display -Norman explained the meaning of each symbol on the poles. Very interesting.
I was on NCL Encore that only stops in Ketchikan for a few hours. They were very conscious about the “all aboard” time. The tour ended at 10:30 and the last bus back home to Ward Cove left at 11:00 (and it was about a 10 minute walk to where the bus meets). As we pulled in, Stormin Norman told me that Sean would give me lift back to Ward Cove (about a 20 minute drive). I was like, no—it’s all good. I have time to catch the bus. Norm goes, I already called Sean.
Sean got his next two tours loaded into the vans and we hopped in his van and headed to Ward Cove. I saw another passenger heading for the bus stop and I actually beat them back to the boat. I got another tour on the way there from Sean… learning about the community and what it’s like to live there.
I felt good about booking outside of NCL and supporting this local business.

Great history about the city. Our tour guide was friendly and informative. Perfect for little ones. Just a little bummed we didn’t see any bears or salmon on the tour.
Michele_B, June 2026
This is a man talking about growing up in Ketchikan. We didn't go to Tide pools, or anywhere near a beach.
HaangYee_N, June 2026
I must say, I had a wonderful time with my family during the tour! Our tour guide is a knowledgeable and local humble man, showed us the beauty of Ketchikan. From going to Saxman Totem Park learning the stories of the behind, to diving deeper to check out eagles and bears. And we are able to see everything!
I really enjoy listening the story during the tour and get to know how their craft contribute back to the homeland. We are really lucky to have him as our tour guide.
If you want to support the locals and small business, this is a tour to join. Also in terms of deals, tour size and duration, I highly recommend this tour to everyone.
EvelynZ_A, June 2026
Our guide was very knowledgeable. We drove around and saw many things. Ketchikan is beautiful. I would go back again.
Kristen_N, June 2026
It was a very rainy day but was a great little tour of Ketchikan. Hal was very knowledgeable. We had plenty of time to explore each stop.
donnadives185, June 2026
Hal was wonderful , kind, and informative. He shared his personal experience of growing up in the area. He tried very hard for us to see a bear but we did not. However we feel blessed that Hal took good care of us
Carlene_I, June 2026
Awesome experience. Shane was very informative guide and provided a wonderful memory for our family. He went out of his way to make sure our grandkids were able to see a momma bear and her cubs. We highly recommend Shane as your tour guide.
John_F, June 2026
It was a great time, I wish we would have had more opportunities to try and see a bear, but still a good time.
Pamela_B, June 2026
Al, the tour guide, is a local and was the highlight, along with some Eagles! As far as wildlife, eagles were our company, no others, The totem pole carving workshop was very interesting. Again, Al and his local tid bits of added information and history made the tour great. We toured the shoreline , walked to a huge waterfall. Enjoyable few hours.
Ruth_C, June 2026
The Ketchikan All in One pricing is not worth the money that we paid for. The salmon ladder is not worth visiting on a rainy day because the water was muddy... the van slowed down at the site while the driver described what to see and we went to the next location.... the Saxman Totem Poles. The driver told his story as a young man being involved in the village and the history of the few Totem poles. We passed by the short waterfalls located along the road... not impressive. No whales, no bears. Not worth the money we paid.
Response from Host, June 2026
Saxman is the home of the largest totem pole collection in S.E. Alaska We at SeaSide do realize our weather can be ruff, wildlife life choose to be wildlife. We are a historical site seeing tour, with a chance to view Wildlife. We do thank you for your review.
Naomi_C, June 2026
Shane Did great as a tour guide! Our visit to Rotary Beach was fascinating with the sea life that he pointed out to us since it was low tide. We even saw a bear at the bridge!
Brenda_M, June 2026
The directions were terrible. We asked for directions. Followed the directions. Received a phone call from driver. I explained we were having difficulty finding him. He asked where we were. I told him. He said we were at the wrong place. He instructed us to turn around and walk toward the big ship. When we didn't see the landmarks he told us to look for I called him again. No answer. He called us back and said he was loading the bus and was leaving. We missed our tour. Eventually we found where we were to be. If he would have listened closer to where I told him I was, he would have realized we were about 20 feet from him. There were to ships there. We were looking at two different ships.
Response from Host, July 2026
If you were 20 feet from us. How did you not see the land marks i described. An statue with 7 figures on it. A address to our meeting location is provided. We do have other guests that are on very tight schedules our tours last 2.5 hour
Anything over 5 mins late. Throws the timing off at our stops to make up for tardiness. And guests who arrived early or on time loose out. We do hope you found another tour and enjoyed your time in our beautiful town. It is very important to read all details of your adventure.
Meeting location, tour time, description and overview. As well as Google. All of these provide exact instructions.
Rhonda_H, June 2026
Hal was an outstanding guide and by sharing his own cultural connection to the land made this trip feel extra special. He was humorous and kind with the little ones.
Lori_S, June 2026
We met up with our tour guide ,which upon meeting him at the appointed time and place was a very friendly and funny man named Hal. He was quick to start off with tons of information and history of the area. As he drove us around to various points of interest, he would share his own personal stories of growing up in Ketchikan. Which we absolutely loved. After failing to spot some wildlife,he tried and kept trying to backtrack to make sure we spotted something. But, not his fault, wildlife spotting is anyone’s guess. As we approached the end of the tour at the Saxman Long House heritage center, he shared some amazing stories and gave us a ton of knowledge on how the long house was built and totems carved holding to strict codes of tradition . If ever in the area, this was a great tour, and if Hal hasn’t retired, I hope you get him because we left there full of his life stories and knowledge of Tlingit heritage and history of Ketchikan.

We had a great tour In Ketchikan with Seaside Tours LLC. Shane the owner was great guide helpful and watched out for us to have a safe enjoyable time. He was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions and also took lots of pictures of us in front of beautiful spots. Highly recommend this tour we only had 6 in our van we had individual service. Thank you Shane
Kim_J, June 2026
Really depends which guide you get. Ours was dressed, very unprofessionally, and sweatpants and a dirty T-shirt. Spent too much time being worried about all the other vans that were going to the same locations where we were headed. Talked too much about himself growing up there, and didn’t give very much historical information
Laura_K, June 2026
We booked this tour based on previous reviews and the ships tour being very expensive and didn’t want to be in all large crowded bus.
We arrived about 15 mins earlier than booked and found out we were the only ones booked on the early tour.
We had a fabulous trip with our guide Hal who even found us a wild black bear to watch. Hal was friendly and showed us lots of different places for great photos.
Would def recommend this trip.
Winifred_L, June 2026
Guide was very knowledgeable of the area and made every effort to assure we got to see everything the tour offered
Jeanette_W, June 2026
Awesome time! Got to see the some other than in town sites. Guide tried his best to find us a bear. Next time!
Yvonne_V, June 2026
We didn't get to experience this because we were unable to get to the meeting point in time. I was very much looking forward to this. I guess I'll have to try it again if we ever come back. I am very sad.
Shannon_F, June 2026
we loved this tour! our guide was so knowledgeable and really strove to give us a great experience of Ketchikan. we were very lucky to see a mama bear and her cubs at the creek which was definitely the highlight of the tour, but alaska’s natural beauty already made it worthwhile.
Andrew_l, June 2026
Guide was a local of the tribe and had good inside knowledge of sites we visited. Guide added extra time to schedule.
Kellyhunterkurvink, June 2026
Our guide was informative and fun. We got to see a wild bear! Learned a lot about the history of the totem poles.
Hajra_H, June 2026
