Got Lucky and Saw a Whale Tail!
We had a great time with Capt. Vince. He was nice and gave some commentary and answered questions, but our group was pretty chill, and he let everyone enjoy their time. We had good sailing weather and he even took us inland we got to see a juvenile humpback whale, which is rare that close to land!

Do not eat a heavy breakfast. You are more prone to be seasick. My partner was sick the whole ride. I absolutely loved seeing the whales though! The crew was amazing and attentive with my seasick partner. I’d also dress warm of course because it’s windy out in the ocean. Not only did we see whales but we also saw a shark and flipping sea lions!

If you're traveling with...
If you're traveling with seniors/very young kids, and whale watching is not feasible due to sea sickness/ length of tour, then this activity is a very good alternative. You won't see whales, but you will see a lot more animals at a very easy pace, and a very comfortable ride. The guides are fantastic, I'm a birder and the guide was able to identify/confirm a lot of birds for me, including a few lifers. My kid got to see otter pups, which was a highlight for her.

Monterey, Carmel and coastal highway to Big Sur
Tina was a wonderful driver/ guide. Her years of experience both as a resident of the area and as a driver gave us the security we needed to relax and truly enjoy our surroundings. Her commentaries on the historic and current background of the sites and areas we visited made our trip that much more interesting. Time went by very quickly. Tina offered us many perfect stops for those photo ops and recommended some great restaurants during the rest of our stay in Monterey and Carmel. On a side note, the fires prevented us from traveling farther south than the River Hose in Big Sur, so we never got to really see the redwoods or take the 17 mile drive to Pebble Beach, which was a disappointment, but totally out of Tina’s control.

The California towns of Monterey and Carmel have drawn visitors seeking ocean air and rugged coastal scenery for more than 100 years. So it’s no surprise that Monterey and Carmel tours center around the ocean, with options for sea cruises, coastal bike rides, and wildlife safari boat trips. You can also learn the history of these settlements by exploring on foot and tap into the famous California wine scene with guided tastings.
