Meet your guide in central Vienna and venture out to the Wachau Valley by minivan. The heart of Austria’s wine heritage, this region is beloved by locals and visitors alike for its delicious wine, charming villages, and stunning scenery.
Arrive in the medieval town of Dürnstein, where English king Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned in 1192. Soak up some free time to roam the castle ruins and wander the charming streets. After working up an appetite, get cozy in a local wine tavern and savor a traditional lunch (own expense).
Hop back aboard your bus and view the passing scenery as you head deeper into the valley. From May to September, relax on a river cruise between the villages of Spitz and Melk along the Danube River.
Continue to Melk Abbey, a renowned Benedictine abbey dating back to 1089, which offers stunning views of the Danube.
Before returning to Vienna, you’ll also have the chance to sample local blends at regional wineries. Visit the valley’s oldest church, founded in 987, all while learning the rich heritage and history behind the Wachau Valley.

There is not much walking but it is not handicap available. I was a great way to get out of Vienna and see the beautiful Austrian countryside. There are 2 excellent wineries for tasting, another one for lunch or lunch in Town and some tourist sites to see. Marco was our guide and he was really great. I learned a lot about the area in general and the wines specifically. I would highly recommend this tour.

Tony was an excellent guide, host, and driver. He made the day warm and special and we learned so much. It was clear that he has developed great relationships with the local vintners that we visited. We were warmly welcomed and tasted some exceptional wines. Highly recommend!

We had a fun tour with our guide Marco through the Wachau Valley and wine region. Because it was October, we started with a guided tour through Melk Abbey where we also had lunch. The highlight for me was driving beside the Danube and stopping at two wineries for a tasting of the lovely and well-made Wachau white wines. One of the most charming wine regions I have visited.

Tim was a wealth of knowledge and delight for our day in the Austrian vineyards of the Wachau valley. Toured and tasted at a smaller, family operated winery and then a larger operation. Due to the winter schedule, we were also able to visit the Abbey in Melk. A perfect fall day!

Marco was a great guide on this day trip which included two very good wineries. We had some free time in Durnstein which allowed us enough time to go hike up to the castle ruins where Richard the Lionheart was held prisoner. I wish we had visited a third winery but we enjoyed the 90 minute cruise down the Danube.

We enjoyed the opportunity to try numerous wines from a variety of vineyards. Our guide, Marco, provided a lot of information on Vienna, Austria and wines from the Wauchau Valley. He took us to a nice Heuriger where the food was delicious! The boat ride on the Danube was beautiful also. We would definitely recommend this tour.

excellent tour. Guide , Reagan, very well informed.
Only fault was on cruise, by the time we boarded the upper window seats were reserved for specific tours. We could only sit at seats on lower level in middle of floor which meant we had no real view or had to stand to see out. Surely, given the fee for the tour , seats should have been reserved for us.

Regarding the feedback on the reserved seats on the ferry, I will pass this on to the relevant people for consideration. However, because we take bookings for this tour up until the tour start date/time, it's difficult to know how many seats to reserve in advance. Also, different people have different preferences - some like to be inside compared to others outside, and weather can also affect one's decision. But we thank you for the feedback.

Great trip in a beautiful valley and wine region. Definitely go before end of September as you don’t get the river cruise after that. Lunch was great in Durnstein. Bring an appetite.

This tour was a great way to experience the beauty of the Wachau Valley. The drive through the region was stunning — full of rolling green hills and vineyards — and the Danube boat ride offered gorgeous views of the landscape from the water.
We stopped at two wineries and got to taste a wide selection of local white wines, all very solid. Lunch in a small village was a nice touch. The guide was excellent, sharing lots of interesting facts and historical context throughout the day without overloading us. The whole experience felt smooth, well-paced, and well-curated.
If you’re visiting Vienna and want a break from the city with great wine and views, this is a fun day trip.

Marco was an amazing tour guide who was knowledgeable and fun to ride with. He quickly got the group well acquainted and made a social atmosphere. He gave us recommendations for specialty items in the town we stopped at and made sure we knew our stop after the cruise ride.

Travelers on this tour will learn, in depth, about the region’s wineries, from the wine makers themselves, as well as sampling the various wines.

An amazing day in the beautiful Wachau Valley! Out tour guide Marco was a delight and very knowledgeable about the region and the fantastic wines we tasted. Lunch was delicious and the castle ruins in Dürnstein is not to be missed (trust me .. the walk up there is worth it). So much fun!

I just got out of this tour with my girlfriend. A fantastic experience. Great wine at the heart of some beautiful valleys. Get to see some authentic little towns and elite scenery. The ferry to melk was safe and relaxing.
Concerning our guide (Marco): he is top. Great driver, very informative and has great cultural and wine making knowledge and very reliable. And always attentive to our needs.
