This was an excellent and informative tour, made even better by our guide, Sissy. Her knowledge of the history was exceptional, and you could tell she was truly passionate about the subject. She encouraged questions throughout the tour and answered each one with confidence and detail.
One of my favorite parts of the experience was that Sissy shared historical photographs of the locations as they appeared during that time, along with pictures of the people she discussed. Seeing those images while standing at the actual sites added so much context and really brought the history to life.
It was an extremely hot day, but Sissy did a wonderful job of looking out for the group. She kept everyone together, stopped in shaded areas whenever possible, and made sure no one was left behind.
My only disappointment was that I expected to visit a few more historical sites related to Hitler. However, Sissy's outstanding storytelling and knowledge more than made up for it.
If you're considering this tour, I hope you're fortunate enough to have Sissy as your guide. She is an exceptional guide who made this one of the highlights of our visit.

This tour was very informative, and our guide, Sissy, made the experience even better. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the era and welcomed questions throughout the tour. No matter what was asked, she always seemed to have the answer.
One thing I especially appreciated was that she brought along historical photographs showing what many of the locations looked like during that time, as well as pictures of the people she spoke about. Those visuals really helped bring the history to life and made it much easier to understand and imagine the events she was describing.
Despite the heat, Sissy made a point to keep the group together, found shaded areas whenever possible, and ensured everyone was comfortable. Her enthusiasm and passion for the history really stood out.
We visited several important sites connected to Hitler, although I was expecting a few more stops along the way. Even so, the quality of Sissy's guiding made the tour worthwhile.
If you have the opportunity to take this tour, I hope you're lucky enough to have Sissy as your guide. She was truly outstanding.

Deter was great! Very accommodating in answering everyone’s questions. He as willing to stay longer to address them all.

This is a great history lesson in general
The tour guide was excellent and did a great job explaining how it all happened and told a lot of great stories
I would highly recommend this tour to all people to make sure that this is not forgotten

Dieter was wonderful! Full of knowledge, explained so much Vienna history before, during and after WWII and a great way to see the city. Highly recommend!

If you are looking for a historical tour while in Vienna, this is a wonderful option! Our tour guide Deter was very kind and knowledgeble. He always ensured the group was comfortable by making sure he helped the participants find water fountains, restrooms, and as much shade as possible since it was a hot and sunny summer day. Im a WW2 nerd and learned a lot! Highly recommend!
Sarah_C, Jul 2026
It was longish - but well paced and there were breaks for water, toilets and we could sit in the shade for some of the stops - which all helped. Dieter was very clear and balanced in the points he made, obviously knowing his subject in depth and able to communicate it to those who had less or greater pre- knowledge. I came away with a much clearer idea about the Austro-Hungarian empire and how it broke up after World War 1 and the influences at work that propelled Hitler to power and Vienna's part in that.

Dieter was an amazing guide. We walked all over the city and learned and saw so much. I was shocked when the tour ended because time went by so fast.

This tour gives a really good introduction to Vienna’s history, especially from around 1900 to the present day.
Dieter is a charming guide with deep knowledge of the subject who also shares several personal stories that enrich the experience. Some of these stories are Dieter’s own, including from his time as a journalist. Others are from people who have been on the tours with Dieter over the years.
We took our three children and our oldest (16) said it was the best part of our first Vienna visit.
There are stops along the way to rest the legs, use a restroom, or fill a bottle from the drinking water pumps dotted around Vienna.
Dieter had some historic pictures to show us at some of these stops and he ensured he showed them to every person on the tour each time.
Dieter answered every question from the group, and repeated the question first so that we could all hear over the earpiece. With such a wide range of questions this demonstrated the breadth of Dieter’s knowledge and his deep interest in the Austria’s modern history.
Thank you, Dieter!

This was my favorite tour of our over two weeks in Europe. Dieter was fantastic! Full of knowledge and stories. Not only is he have a degree in history but also was a journalist. As an Austrian, Dieter provided it from a really interesting prospective. Don’t miss this tour! I recommended to a few others that I met on the train. Thanks for teaching my 11 year old the history she needs to hear!

When in Vienna, we mostly heard about the Hapsburg and Marie Theresa. To us, there was a huge void of information about WW II and Nazi occupation in Vienna.
However, with this tour with Wolfgang, we gained more depth about Hitler and his rise to power. He shared information about the history of Nazism and the events in Vienna. It was shared in 5 different lecture formats which was fascinating for me but could be difficult for those with shorter attention spans or low interest levels.

Stephon was an amazing story teller and his enthusiasm made the tour that much better. Highly recommend.

This is such a great tour, personable and knowledgeable. Sigi was great. I've done a similar tour in Munich, it connected the dots, completed the picture. I used to live in Vienna, so it was wonderful to learn new things about a city that I love, even if it was a very dark time. It's how we learn and grow.

First I’ve been on vivator tours for years!!! Never wrote a review. We expected this to be a bit more tour of city with some WW2 stories and how Hitler influenced started in Vienna. Our guide was SO knowledgeable but we spent 30 mins at each of 5 sites and in sun which just happened to be 100F degrees. I wish he could have referenced the site and its importance’s and continued on from birth of Hitler to 1988 as we walked or at least moved to Sun.
We only saw 5 things and the 2 1/2 hr lecture was a repeat of the history we have already learned. I guess we thought we would be “seeing” sites if Vienna and learning how Hitler influenced or was influenced by each thing. If you’re looking to learn his life from beginning to end this is for you but you don’t “see” much. It’s more lecture tour which would have been better from AC room with slides. Again guide was great and had alot of knowledge, just not what we expected.

Depending on weather it can be uncomfortable to be standing in the sun. Bring an umbrella. Also, you will be standing a long time.
Ritu_C, Jun 2026
Wonderful experience and very knowledgeable tour guide. She pointed the eating joints and way back in the end.
JOE_C, Jun 2026
This was a very worthwhile tour with lots of background information, not just a rote list of places. We went where Hitler visited and also heard the historical background to his experiences in Austria inc his rejection as a painter and a visit to the art institute, the building where he gave his famous speech, and so on.
We did this in sunny hot weather (30+ DegC) and Dieter took care to keep us in the shade as much as possible and also include short stops for restrooms and water.
Small earpieces were provided so we could hear clearly without having to be right next to the guide.
There was also a short mixup with location to meet and they called us to make sure we were in the right place (20meters away :-)
TLDR; Highly Recommended.

The Historical Hitler walking tour in Vienna was very informative. Our tour guide was Wolfgang and he did a great job diving into the rise of Nazism and antisemitism in Vienna during WW2
Denise_P, Jun 2026
Deter was so thorough with his history on the walk, very well spoken, easy to understand, liked the way he asked questions to the group. Also, always looked for shade, loved that!! I give him a 10 out of 10! Great experience!!
Christy_L, Jun 2026
Dieter was phenomenal! He did a terrific job navigating the 27 person tour. His background as journalist and historian was unique and provided great additional context to the tour. Dieter was also respectful of history given sensitive topic. Highly recommend this tour!! My husband - a history buff - absolutely loved it!
Gabrielle_M, Jun 2026
Dieter is a wonderful guide. Knowledgeable as well as obviously skillful in conversation around a historical topic of sensitivity. Really enjoyed his tour, learned a lot that can’t be found in history books. Being a history buff, especially of the World War II era and Hitler days, I found the tour very enlightening and enjoyable. Highly recommend it. Thank you Dieter!

This tour gives history lovers an excellent insight not only into the events leading up to WW 2 but to the personality, early life and motivations of Hitler. Our guide, Stefan, was very knowledgeable, passionate about his subject and made historical events come to life. His observations regarding the "whys" of the Third Reich and the ascension of Hitler were spot on. This tour will make you think and consider how the past relates to the present and the future of our world. An afternoon to remember.
Carol_B, Jun 2026
A very informative and well structured tour. A special mention for Dieter. I’ve done many walking tours and usually the guides are either knowledgeable or good communicators. Dieter is both - an exceptional guide.
DianeS_H, Jun 2026
Dieter was great. Very knowledgeable and determined to give us value for our 2.5 hour experience. Paused to accept lots of questions. Would recommend.
Sejal_M, Jun 2026
Good historical info. Appreciated the insights and thoughtful approach. I liked understanding Vienna’s role in Hitker’s Journey. A little bit more standing still than I would like (hard on the back) your could benefit from headphones walk and talk approach.
Scott_S, Jun 2026
A very interesting and informative tour. My tour guide(his name escapes me) was very knowledgeable and very informative. I would suggest to anyone visiting Vienna
Sean_M, Jun 2026
Deiter was an outstanding guide. He is extremely knowledgeable and has a warm, engaging style that made the tour both informative and enjoyable.
The tour provided an excellent overview of Hitler’s relationship with Austria, as well as the broader historical context of World War I and World War II. Deiter shared numerous facts and insights that were new to me and brought the history to life in a thoughtful and balanced way.
I especially appreciated his discussion of Austria’s role during this period and his inclusion of memorials and monuments dedicated to the victims of World War II. The tour was educational, respectful, and thought-provoking. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in understanding this complex chapter of Austrian and European history.
Katherine_W, Jun 2026
It is very well done. Michael was our tour guide, and he is extremely well read and knowledgable about Hitler and his time in Vienna.
I learned a lot - the ear pieces they used were of high quality and it was easy to hear everything. I especially enjoyed learning about the Jews in Vienna and visitng where they lived and the memorials to those who died. Top notch!
Beatrice_R, Jun 2026
This tour does not go into Hilters political views but how Nazism change Austria. Great history lesson. Did not know anything about Hilters early days!
Kate_W, Jun 2026
Really interesting tour and not only gave us a good understanding of the Hitler and his horrible actions, it gave us a good tour of the city. The guide was knowledgeable!
