The tour that never happened

Poor communication during our travel left us high and dry. We were expecting to enjoy an evening touring the city and rushed through dinner just to get there in time to find out that the tour had been cancelled due to lack of participation. We were told we were sent a message, which we never received, especially since we arrived to Italy from the U.S. just that day. We were refunded our money after communicating with Viator, but the fact that poor communication left a huge time gap for us to meander around the city on our own was disappointing. The tour company and or guide could definitely do better.
