Harry , our guide, was extremely knowledgeable about the aurora borealis. He shared the science and told us stories. He is an amazing photographer and we are so pleased with our images. Dominic our driver was brilliant too. We had an amazing experience in a fantastic location. We were very lucky that the aurora put on an amazing show. We would totally recommend this experience.

Amazing experience

Sezgi_O, Mar 2026
It was an incredible experience. First of all, I would like to thank our guide Max for all his energy, dedication, and the knowledge he shared. He made sure we had an amazing experience with everything he did. It was a wonderful tour, and I was very satisfied. I hope to have the chance to join again one day.

Super Aurora Experience

Cindy_P, Mar 2026
It was incredible! Our guide, Harry, was very knowledgeable about the aurora & knew the best places to take us. We stayed later than most of the groups around us & the aurora really exploded after that. A++ experience.

Highly recommend

Georgi_P, Mar 2026
Unfortunately, we saw the Northern Lights for a very brief moment and through our cameras, but it was not for lack of trying. We visited two locations, but the sky was mostly cloudy that night (it even started snowing on our way back), and there wasn't much aurora activity. However, the overall experience was nice: we ate real reindeer sausages (not the artificial hot dogs sold in many places), had warm drinks, and our tour guide Max explained the science behind the aurora and helped with camera settings. He was also constantly on the lookout for the aurora. Even though the night was not too cold and without any wind, the thermal suits were a nice addition.

DO YOUR HOMEWORK when selecting an operator for this type oftour

Rocky_M, Feb 2026
My husband and I took this tour with Northern Horizon on 01Feb26. Two vehicles from the company met us on site at the Magic Ice Bar. Our minibus was rather full and departed with 9 pax for the adventure. Barbora was our guide and Bert was our driver. As soon as we boarded the bus, Barbora informed us that the conditions were not very good but she was "hopeful" we would be able to see SOMETHING by the end of the tour. After nine hours spent on the bus, minus the two toilet breaks and the one hour of camping at a roadside pull-off at the Finnish border for hot drinks and sausage, we saw nothing. At times, Barbora mentioned she was communicating with a network of colleagues to locate areas with favorable conditions and had disembarked the bus on a few occasions to check for open skies. She located a star or two which led us to believe there was a chance of seeing the lights but not to lose hope as often times the lights were spotted upon return. I will say, we were fully aware there was no guarantee to see the lights when we booked this tour but did not cancel based upon the reviews. After Bert outfitted us with thermal gear, we were only off the bus for about 45 mins to an hour, long enough for them to light a few kindling pieces in a small dish, cook the sausages and have a beverage but not long enough to really see anything even IF they had appeared. Our bus had several people who were uncomfortable with both the camp conditions and the fact that the bus wasn't heated at the camp for them to warm up. The camp fire wasn't sufficient for keeping anyone warm and the camp chairs were much too low for a few of the attendees (esp suited up in heavy gear) so we ended up leaving as soon as everyone had eaten and Barbora had taken the promised included photo of those who desired one. The photos were of us suited up on top of a snow bank or sitting by the fire. I want to make it clear that we DO NOT PLACE ANY BLAME on Barbora or Bert. They made the best of the situatuon and were as accommodating as they could be. They are simply employees of Northern Horizon and are putting forth their best effort to make a living. Initially, we accepted the fact that there was no guarantee to see the lights and even though we were disappointed that we spent $513.90 (equivalent to 9% of oir entire cruise fare) on this excursion, the lack of a guarantee was the risk we took. In hindsight, I wish I would've followed my app and canceled with Viator for a refund, but didn't. The reason why I feel compelled to submit this detailed review is because two days later while we were on an excursion in Alta we had conversation with our driver whose boyfriend is a chasing the Northern Lights guide. She had heard all about the dissatisfaction about the lights tours in Tromso and Alta from other vacationers. Evidently, the company HE worked for had CANCELED TOURS DUE TO LITTLE TO NO CHANCE OF SIGHTINGS AMIDST POOR CONDITIONS FROM THE BEGINNING. Upon hearing this, we felt the guide/driver who had a network of contacts and reliable resources had misled us by "going through the motions" and we had been duped by Northern Horizon. After spending an entire 9 hours of our port time crammed in a minibus with little to no expectation of seeing the lights, we felt the company had used our tour as an easy money grab. Not to mention this was a day of our holiday that we can't get back. I wouldn't consider it a miserable experience but it was the worst excursion of four we took on this holiday. I contacted Northern Horizen regarding the information i'd discovered, to no avail. Their answer was, "This region is full of microclimates"....yada yada. I wish I had known sooner that there ARE operators that exist that will cancel when the conditions go south whereas the customer having a positive experience overrides the revenue. WATCH THE WX YOURSELF, BE SELECTIVE WHEN CHOOSING AN OPERATOR and LEAVE THE OPTION TO CANCEL WITHIN 24 HOURS OPEN....otherwise you could lose 9 hours of your holiday and a significant amount of money.

A great trip to see the aurora

Dennis_A, Feb 2026
A shout out to max and Bart who made this trip and amazing experience with amazing photos to take away as memories

No lights but a great trip anyway

Nephi_J, Feb 2026
Max was fantastic!! He was enthusiastic, positive and helpful with people who especially needed help with the terrain. It wasn’t just about the lights. He had much more to offer!! We had a little fire with reindeer sausage, drinks and even a treat. We were out from 5:30 pm to 2am! Mother nature prevented us from seeing the lights but it did not seem like wasted time.

Although it was cloudy...

MaryJo_S, Feb 2026
Although it was cloudy and we did not see the northern lights it was not for lack of trying. We actually drove in the Finland twice. It was a good time regardless and we got to roast reindeer sausage around a fire and drink hot chocolate. The scenery as we drove around was beautiful. We had a good time.

Smart guide & small group

Kelly_E, Jan 2026
I went on the tour from Tromsø with Max as the guide. Max was so passionate about explaining the northern lights, and very clearly understood the science behind it. Because of his understanding, we were able to see a truly magnificent showing. I felt so lucky. I also really liked the group size - only about 10 people. It was perfect. I didn’t feel like a sardine and I got to know my fellow travelers. Highly recommend this experience.

Phenomenonal Experience

Supreet_S, Jan 2026
Both the guide and the driver were amazing. I have find many tours in the past but never felt such warmth. The travel was smooth, the detailed explanation was solid(Max is a geologist, he knows his stuff😅). The light show was something else. We had some very tasty hot chocolate, sausages by the fire and a nice small tour group. Max is also a great photographer. He took some brilliant pictures of the experience. Overall, you have to be a part of this experience. Made my trip totally worth it. Just go for it.

The best Northern Lights tour

Esmeralda_B, Jan 2026
Absolutely incredible!!! Max was our guide and we were joined by Peter from the team. Max was incredibly knowledgeable, very kind and a talented photographer as well. He put a lot of thought into where to take us for the best viewing for the Northern Lights and we won the lottery - it was a breathtaking display. Peter was so helpful with the gear and setting up the bonfire, which was a blast. Cannot recommend this enough!!!!!

Awesome experience

Michael_B, Jan 2026
One of the best tours I have been on ever! Arrived on time and organisation throughout was first class. Very lucky to have Harry as a guide who found the lights after suggesting we just head ti Finland and not stopping elsewhere. Not only does he has immense knowledge and expertise in finding the lights but also about them which he shared. He takes incredible photos too which he shared within hours of the tour. Great that suits were provided to keep warm and a lovely camp fire was set-up with a BBQ, hot drinks and snacks. Cancelled other northern lights tours as this set the standard.

Amazing journey of a lifettime

Anthony_S, Dec 2025
Max was an exceptional guide, extremely knowledgeable and articulate about the science aspects of Aurora phenomenonand very courteous and thoughtful on all aspects of the trip. He’s a professional level photographer as well and we got fantastic pictures from him. My family had a memorable experience with this tour and we were able to see an amazing Aurora show from a beautiful frozen landscape. It was the trip of a lifetime!

Max is a man with a plan!

Michael_S, Dec 2025
What an amazing experience! Dominic got us there warm and safely. Our guide Max was passionate and knowledgeable about this amazing natural wonder. Max made sure everyone we all had the peak opportunity to see the Aurora and did not disappoint.

A magical evening

An adventure

Therese_S, Nov 2025
We didnt get to see the lights because of the clouds and weather but it was a different experience sitting around an fire pit cooking our sausages and drinking hot chocolate. The snow suits kept us warm. Max our tour guide was very enthusiastic and knowlegable and made the night enjoyable. Both he and Dominic our driver were very helpful

Magical

Salvatore_M, Oct 2025
Harry was a great guide!! Got us positioned perfectly to experience a truly magical night that was mind blowing. Not only did he educate us on the science he was excited to take our pictures and make sure we were having fun.

Dancing northern lights

Darshan_R, Oct 2025
Great experience with Harry our guide and Camille the driver - clear skies and dancing Northern lights from the moment the sun went down. Harry constantly monitors the weather and satellite data and decided on the best spot for us to head to (even the Norwegian weather forecast was wrong when Harry was right!). Great hotdogs, hot chocolate and cookies around the campfire while explaining the science. The photographs received the day after are amazing. Highly recommended!

Outstanding Tour

William_K, Oct 2025
Outstanding tour - guide was excellent - transportation van was very comfortable - group size was small - perfect location was selected to see the lights - food and drink was good. Highly recommend this tour!!!

Virginia_M, Mar 2025
Our guide, Max, was very good! He was very knowledgeable about the northern lights/aurora borealis and always asked if we had questions. He was very friendly and tended to us. He took good care of us. Though the aurora were slightly visible, Mac’s photos of the aurora were very good. The van driver was also very nice. Thank you!

One of the best choices we made

Steven_M, Mar 2025
First time trying to see the lights and I don’t think we could have found a better tour guide. Herman has been chasing these lights for years and somehow found a clear site, even though it has been snowing and overcast most of the day. More than that, he was deeply knowledgeable about the physics behind the lights and explained it in an easy to understand way. He told us about the wildlife in the area, and he and Peter (the driver) setup a campfire complete with reindeer sausages aha marshmallows. We did have luck on our side and scored some great shots of the lights. He shared his photos with us so between our images and his we’ve got a hundreds of images from the night. Would highly recommend this company.

Wonderful

Jennifer_N, Mar 2025
It was incredible and absolutely worth it. Our guide, Herman, and driver, Dominique, were fabulous. Loved every minute. Bring water. bring dry socks for after.

A spectacular tour!

Catherine_D, Mar 2025
We had a spectacular experience on our northern lights tour! Our guide, Harry, was so knowledgeable and did a great job finding us the perfect spot to view the lights. We were lucky to have an amazing northern lights display on the night of our tour, and Harry explained both the science and the mythology behind the lights. It was truly an exceptional night!

New Horizon Northern Lights Tour

Jeff_R, Mar 2025
Our guide, Harry, did an outstanding job!! We had a clear night for northern lights, so we drove less than an hour to a dark sky spot along the water. Great northern lights, and fun campfire with reindeer sausages.

Absolutely incredible experience! Must do!

Rikki_M, Mar 2025
What an amazing experience this was, really made my trip to Tromso, it’s a must do. We travelled 2 hours to Finland in search of the lights in a very comfortable Mercedes bus, we had thermal suits provided as it was -12C in Finland, we saw multiple northern lights across different locations, Simon (our guide) and Peter (our driver) were amazing, nothing but helpful and kind, at our last destination in Finland they made us a fire for us to sit around and provided hot tea/chocolate, reindeer sausages and cookies whilst they also told us about the auroras. Truly incredible, 10/10!!

Michelle_C, Feb 2025
I was worried about the weather but it was really worth having a guide who could use the various predictions to make our chasing successful! We were thrilled with how lucky we were to see the lights, a long sought after bucket list item! Sausages were also yummy, same as the stand in town but no queue! Our photos were amazing, thanks Bert!

Great time.

Cindy_M, Feb 2025
Was an amazing experience. Max was a great guide and we were able to find suitable sky for viewing the northern lights rather quickly.

Go!

Veronica_D, Feb 2025
Just do it. A night forecast with clouds left one option - to Finland we go! And oh yes the guide accurately forecast the aurora and we had our 15-30 minutes of amazing wonder. Thank you Harry and Voicic!

Freezing conditions but what an amazing experience. Recommend if you visit Tromso. Hot drinks and snacks included

Jane_Z, Feb 2025
Let patience and luck be on your side, we were lucky in Tromso to see the aurora, -10 degrees temperature Our tour guide, Simon was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable and our driver got us back safely in snow and icy conditions. Dropping us off at our hotel in the early hours was a bonus Only one comfort break enroute Sitting on a frozen lake for almost 2 hours around a firepit was surreal listening to the science of the northern lights

Amazing, once in a...

Lauren_B, Feb 2025
Amazing, once in a lifetime experience. Max did an amazing job educating us about the science of the aurora. Will never forget seeing the lights on a frozen lake in Finland while roasting reindeer sausage over a bon fire.

Must Do

Shreyasi_J, Feb 2025
The weather conditions on the day we took this excursion were very difficult We had snow the whole day, then rain It was cloudy all over And then we were chased by very strong winds Still, the Harry and his crew figured the perfect spots and found us the perfect patches in the sky to see the auroras He explained the scientific and the mythological aspects of this phenomenon We had a lovely bonfire with snacks. The best part was that this is a small group tour So it was very easy to reassemble and keep chasing the auroras very quickly as opposed to the large bus tours Kudos to Harry and his team! 10/10
