Hidden gem - one of the best walking tours ever

If you’re looking to experience a quieter, more authentic side of Tokyo away from the crowds of Shibuya and Shinjuku, this tour is absolutely worth it. My guide, Alex, was outstanding. His passion for Japan and its culture was obvious from the moment we met. As someone with both Japanese and Australian roots, he offered a unique perspective, blending historical knowledge with personal stories and practical local insights. He was engaging, funny, patient, and made me feel welcome. The tour was perfectly paced and took us through places I would never have discovered on my own: peaceful temples, Yanaka Cemetery, beautifully preserved historic streets, Ueno Sakuragi Atari, Enju-ji Temple (where people pray for strong legs and feet), the stunning torii gates of Nezu Shrine, and finally the charming shops of Yanaka Ginza. Along the way, Alex explained Japanese customs, religious traditions, architecture, and everyday life in a way that was both informative and easy to understand. What really stood out was that this wasn’t just a history lesson: it felt like exploring the neighborhood with a knowledgeable local friend. Alex also pointed out great food stops, unique souvenir shops, and even took fantastic photos of everyone throughout the walk. This has been my favorite tour of japan so far. If you enjoy history, culture, photography, hidden neighborhoods, or simply want to see a side of Tokyo that many tourists miss, I can’t recommend this tour highly enough.
