This is a great experience. Momo and Sarah introduced the group to Sumo. We walked to the Thunder Stable and observed morning practice. Afterwards the rishiki answered questions, joked around, and posed with us for a photo. Totally worth the effort/cost. There is also an option for a Chanko lunch afterwards.

Aya and Tai were great guides.
Started the morning at the meeting point learning about the history of sumo. Then we went to the sumo stable to watch practice. It was amazing to see them up close and see how intense training is. We had a photo and Q&A session with the wrestlers and then regrouped at the meeting point for final Q&A with the guides.
The experience was one of the highlights of our Japan trip.

Phenomenal experience. We felt truly privileged to witness the daily life of a sumo wrestler up close. Definitely recommend this tour company! Sarah and Tai were lovely. It was an exciting and a very informative experience and we were able to ask the sumo wrestlers questions and take photos at the end! All for a good price comparative to other similar tours!

This was a great experience. You get to see a real practice session with professional sumo wrestlers, nothing staged. Very up close to the wrestlers. While we were there, there were several practice matches which were exciting and fun to watch. And after, we were lucky to have the opportunity to wrestle with the sumo wrestlers (this doesn’t always happen though, as I understand it. Depends on whether there’s time after their practice and if they deem it appropriate for that particular session). You get to interact with them with a short Q and A session and picture taking. Our guides Sarah and Momo were also very knowledgeable, approachable, and informative.

Really interesting morning observing the rituals involved at a sumo practice session and of course the practice itself. The guide provided us with some background on the history of sumo but the experience would have been further enhanced if we had the opportunity to ask questions of the Oyakata himself.

Sarah our guide reached out the day before to confirm the meeting place with some pre-reading material. On the day, she explained the process and gave some background and insight into Sumo and the stable that we were to visit. We watched a real training session which was fascinating and reminds you that these really are elite athletes. The intensity, power and explosiveness up close is mind blowing. After the training was over, the males we were lucky enough to wrestle with one of them in the ring … they are strong ! Finally we had a nice lunch nearby where Sarah was able to answer more questions that we had.

A very enjoyable experience to watch the sumo wrestlers going through their morning practice. My 3 grandsons were able to wrestle with the sumo wrestlers. It was very interesting learning about them in our Q&R session. Highly recommend this experience.

It was a small stable that led to a really intimate experience with just our group of 8 and 7 sumo wrestlers. After we could ask questions and the wrestlers were very friendly and open. Definitely a highlight so far.

This has been the best experience I’ve had in Japan. Watching the rituals, the exercises, the individual sumo wrestlers’ styles and personalities was fascinating. The wrestlers showed so much determination and respect to tradition and the practice was very intense; I feel very honored to have witnessed that. One could feel the sumo spirit of that stable. It has certainly ignited a fire inside of me and I am going to learn about and experience more sumo in the future. Thank you for this great opportunity.

It was cool to see the training up close. :-) It's amazing to see how hard they workout.
Personal let down: Due to traditions women aren't allowed into the ring and I also wanted to try pushing one of the Sumos (like all male visitors).

Highly recommend this experience. We had a fabulous morning at the Sumo practice session. Our guides messaged us the night before with full instructions and Sumo guide. The training session was intense and gave insights to a Sumo life. Plenty of opportunity to ask questions and photos with the Sumo wrestlers at the end. We unfortunately couldn’t make the self funded brunch afterwards but it sounded like a good local experience.

This was such a unique inside view of the world of sumo. Our guide, Peach, shared a brief history of sumo prior to watching the wrestlers practice which was so useful while observing. Unfortunately I could not join the brunch afterwards (I unintentionally double booked myself) but I would have joined otherwise. 10/10 would recommend!

Very authentic experience watching the wrestlers train and practice. The men then had a chance to go in the ring and go up against the wrestlers. This was fun! Some wrestlers were away on tour so we had three children in the group.

The whole thing was great. The guide was very knowledgeable. We got everything we were promised. The thrill and the excitement of a Sumo tournement is second to none but to be able to get up close and personnal and to witness how hard the wrestlers train to get there is amazing.
