This tour was so much fun! Ryoko was an amazing tour guide. She shared all the history about sumo and terms with us. We were lucky enough to be the only ones on the tour today and the stable we visited had the most hospitable stable master and sumo wrestlers. They let us enjoy watching them train and then answered all of our questions. The whole experience was very enjoyable. I’d recommend this tour to anyone. Thank you, Ryoko!

This was a blast for everyone! Our guides Ryoko and Haru were so friendly and kind. They gave us an excellent history lesson on Sumo. The wrestlers were amazing to watch and we even got to step in the ring and try and move them (good luck!) It's a must do on your trip!

This was a great snapshot into the life of being a sumo. Our guide, Tomer, was excellent. He gave us a brief history of the sumo while on the train on the way over. Tomer also translated for us what the stablemaster was telling the guys when he was giving constructive criticism during the training as well as explained things that we were watching. This was a definitely and engaging learning experience watching the sumos spar at practice and the intensity with which they gave their all every time. The sumo wrestlers were very nice gentlemen and answered any questions that we asked and were great sports when we tried to wrestle them. They also were willing to take any pictures that we wanted. We almost missed the experience due to train hiccups, but Tomer and the company were so accommodating and bent over backwards to make sure that we didn't miss out on the experience. I would recommend this experience hands down any day.

We had the absolute pleasure of joining the World of Sumo tour with Ryoko and Yassmine, and it was truly one of the highlights of our trip to Japan! Ryoko and Yassmine were not only incredibly knowledgeable about the history and culture of sumo, but they were also warm, engaging, and full of fascinating stories that brought everything to life.

This was an excellent tour, with great information about the Sumo sport. Seeing the Sumo training provided great insight into the strength of these athletes. After their training, all the guests had an opportunity to try and push the Sumos and have photos, the Sumos were really good fun with the lads in our group and kind with the children. The Sumo breakfast stew was interesting too. 100% recommend this tour to see what’s really involved.

This is a fantastic experience, not to be missed when visiting Japan. It is so interesting being close to sumo wrestlers and seeing the exertion they have to give in each match. Then, the chance to give it a go (or at least in fun) and appreciate how these guys are so gentle in character, it was a great experience all round. Well worth the expense and the hosts were fantastic too.

Highly recommend this wonderful and authentic sumo wrestling experience! You get to attend a real sumo wrestling training session. Our guide Ryoko Furutono did a great job giving us background about the history and rules of sumo wrestling so we had a full appreciation for the sport and the cultural importance of sumo wrestling. The best part was how welcoming and engaging the sumo wrestlers and stable owner was. At the end they let us try to push the sumo wrestlers (these guys are like a rock and hardly budge) and took photos with us. It made our Japan experience memorable and fun!

We were traveling with our three kids under 15 years old. This was a great experience. We were able to see the intensity of their training and the dedication they put into it. The coach was on the sidelines, so we could see how the training works. We sat in folding chairs right next to the training area and the guides were very helpful and explaining what was happening. After the 45 minutes of training, we were able to take pictures and even try to “push” them (unsuccessfully).
Lunch was a light broth/vegetable/chicken soup. It was very good.
On a sidenote, I was not on the WhatsApp communication before we met up and for some reason, my husband‘s WhatsApp wasn’t going through. Make sure to communicate with them before the meet up, as it could be a little confusing. It all worked out and they were very patient, But it would be good to have the communication started the day before.
Overall, it was a wonderful experience and I’m so glad we did it!

Ryoko was an amazing guide! She was able to take us through so much of the history of Sumo as well as the rules and customs on the train ride to the venue. Once there we got to see the real life practice, it was intense and fascinating. Then once done we got to hear about the individual journeys of the wrestlers who are training there. Up until the day of the tour, all the communication had been via emails. (and in the emails, there was a link to contact tour operator with last minute questions). Apparently, the day of our early-morning tour, there was a WhatsApp chat started. I don't use WhatsApp, so didn't receive any of the messages/updates on where to meet or the address of the sumo stable.
I continuously tried to reach our tour guide through Viator. Finally, after multiple attempts and almost 45 minutes of trying to reach them (calling and messaging), while standing at the meeting point, they sent me the address to the sumo stable, which was an hour away by $70 taxi ride. We were assured we could come in late, and to still come. So we did. But we missed the majority of the sumo training. We saw a few rounds (about 10 min), and then they stretched for 10 minutes. The training was over by 9:50am and we had arrived at 9:30am. Super disappointing and stressful experience.
Full disclosure, we did miss the 7:45am meet time. We arrived by 7:58am (email said they would leave by 8am). They did not send me the address to the sumo stable until 8:25am. If they had provided this ahead of time, we would not have missed any of the sumo match.
The sumo wrestlers were great and gracious. Our tour guide was nice as well, and went over some sumo facts after we left the stable.

and all the information was fully sent to you via viator prior to that as we do with all the travelers.
However, despite doing all that, On that day our computers fell and we couldn’t respond quickly.
We assumed you received all the info and just couldn’t show up, that happens sometimes.
To compensate you for that we referred you as you requested.
Such unfortunate miss communication is very rare but we hope you could accept our compensation for that.

Amazing introduction to Sumo. Ryoko and Haru were lovely guides who lead us to the stables via 2 trains. Seeing the rikishi train was eye opening. It’s not just size that matters, but also agility and tactics. We had some chanko nabe which was very tasty. It was interesting to learn about rishiki daily life. Highly recommended

What an AMAZING experience!!! To experience a real Somo practice, unfiltered, in a front row seat! Everyone including my 10 yearold son enjoined it! Tomer our guide was very informative, took care of everything. The meal was also a surprisingly good experience, everything from start to end was authentic! Truly a memorable experience! Warmly recommend to anyone wanting to see the real Japan.
We also loved the part that we could ask the fighters some questions and they shared their POV on life and their life Journey into Sumo. It was also nice to learn about the single foreigner that was able to join the dojo!
A nice plus was that people where able to try and 'face in mini combat' one of the fighters. My son lived it!
